| ❝ did it ever cross your mind that perhaps — osiris’s power wasn’t enough ? ❞|
; exodus set down his cup, peering across the table at imhotep with a curious gaze. he folded his long fingers, tilting his head slightly.
| ❝ thoth may have been a better choice. ❞|
❝ it was not mine choice; for the curse is as it states. in my years, i was the high priest of osiris; & thus, it is his power that runs through. ❞
a simple notion to most; the godking was not one to speak on his actions with any random entity ---- but this one was more than welcome.
❝ i do not seek knowledge; but power is my virtue. ❞
❝ you find no joy in this? it’s all i see.❞
maybe he was a tiny bit offended at the comment, of course that’s only because this had become his home, four thousand years was a long time without one,
❝ then why are you here? ❞
was he so sure this man was his friend? if anything it appeared he wasn’t pleased with the way anything looked, perhaps he was just confused, except he knew of the tablet & its magic,
there must be another reason,
but what?
❝ what joy do you see, hmm? ❞ the grand vizier was now genuinely curious. such an open heart for one who ruled with an iron tongue; for the work of a pharaoh was more than quick speech and a golden smile. legs moved him over to a sitting chair, finding the likeness of the seat unsettling; eyes watching the other as two black scarabs crawl out of his clothing, perched upon either shoulder.
❝ ahkmenrah, fourth king of the fourth king. tell me what brings you this joy you speak of. ❞
"Whaddya know. Are those scarabs?”
❝ ..... ❞ Nothing but a humph as his children scattered about, twisting & turning before setting their sights upon the other. However, he notes that none attack, but merely wander around his form.
I would like to say something about Imhotep & it’s not something I really care to talk about but I feel like it’s something that needs to be known.
& that’s the question of Imhotep’s power & abilities. The movies touched on what he could do but left out details. Starting with the basics, and this all comes from canon, mind you —- telekinesis is something that has been displayed, as he lifted Alex O’Connell with nothing but a hand raise. It is theorized that he also can levitate because of this power, but that’s yet to be truly known. The power of the elements are at his disposal, as seen in both The Mummy & The Mummy Returns. He ignites fires in the temples, creates sandstorms & walls of water, and with the ability to travel via those sandstorms, he can manipulate wind as well. Immortality is a given, as well as longevity & the ability to heal wounds, seen as Rick O’Connell constantly shot him and he was barely affected, if affected at all. Other abilities are superhuman endurance, agility, strength, & the like. He is also is quite the sorcerer, a master of spells of a variety of kinds. He knows spells from the Book of Amun-Ra & the Book of the Dead almost like the back of his hand, but certain spells do require the books themselves. What is most important is WHY he has these powers. The Hom-Dai curse states that if the chest bound to the victim’s existence is ever to be opened, the victim would be resurrected with unspeakable power, with them coming the ten plagues of Egypt & god-like immortality.
He literally has the power of Osiris running through his decayed veins.
Now, one would ask —- “well, he was defeated twice so he’s obviously not [ that ] powerful.” & to that I would remind you that each time he was defeated, he was also rendered mortal at that time. In the Mummy, Evelyn read the correct scripture from the Book of Amun-Ra that allowed Anubis to take Imhotep’s immortality from him & in the Mummy Returns, upon reaching Ahm Shere & the golden pyramid, Anubis himself was the one to take away his immortality, wanting him to fight the Scorpion King as a mortal. This post is NOT to say that Imhotep is the end-all, be-all of his story, but to recognize just WHO he is and WHAT he can do. Things to keep in mind when interacting with Imhotep.
another mummy joining the exhibit, the young pharaoh was overjoyed to hear of this news, he had only ever been on display by himself, it would be a nice change to have someone he could relate with, by language & culture,
the one they called imhotep, whom ahkmenrah had heard spoken of in passing whispers, though he had never actually seen him until now, in the flesh, much like himself,
❝ mine is not a curse. if anything it is a blessing. ❞
he, much older than the one who spoke to him, knew the truth ---- that this was far from the blessing it seemed to be. he was not meant to become bound --- he was IMHOTEP, bringer of death; he that shall not be named & nothing, not even a museum filled with ancients & artefacts alike could stop him. with a smirk & scoff, he turned to take in the view of their so-called exhibit --- the americans tried but failed ultimately, unfortunately.
❝ a blessing of what? life? life shall come regardless. i have power absolute in my hand & yet, i lay attached to a mere tablet. this is no blessing, young pharaoh. ❞
