Brought to you by the Mount Weather Arts Committee.
Citizens,
Yesterday we experienced a serious breach to our environmental systems. Due to a scrubber malfunction, one of the dorms on level five was exposed to high levels of radiation. That area was immediately quarantined and the scrubbers have since been repaired, clearing the room of all radiation.
We are taking this system failure very seriously and investigating the cause so it will not happen again.
One of our young citizens, Maya, was in the dormitory at the time of the containment breach and is being treated for radiation exposure. Fortunately, one of our new residents Jasper Jordan volunteered to participate in an experimental procedure to help her once it was determined that our standard treatment was insufficient. Jasper is a true hero and a brave young man. His superior resistance to radiation and metabolic processes have cleaned Maya's blood of all contamination. Her radiation burns have nearly disappeared and she is healing nicely.
Contact Dr. Tsing if you would like to send any cards or gifts to Maya and Jasper to wish them well in their recovery.
Our Head of Security Cage Wallace will continue to investigate the cause of the breach and will confirm that all systems are functioning properly within the next few hours.
Thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter.
From: Cage Wallace, Head of MWEOC Security
Subject: New Recruits
Due to an increase in Outsider activity, we are seeking additional guards and soldiers. If you have previous military training, but were exempted or dismissed from service for any reason, those restrictions are lifted, effective immediately.
It is imperative that we maintain the peace and security of Mount Weather at all costs. Outsiders killed one of our own -- Sgt. Shaw -- and others have been injured as a result of the Outsiders' violence.
Defense forces are essential in the fight to preserve our culture and heritage. These savages threaten our way of life, our very civilization itself. Do your part for your fellow citizens, for all of humanity, and join us today.
** New Members of Mt Weather are excluded from this recruitment until further notice. This is for your protection.

Adjusting to Life in Mount Weather
Greetings, New Residents!
We are so happy to have you here! You have all been through a great deal since you landed on Earth, and we want to help make your transition to life in Mount Weather as painless as possible.
In many ways you will find that living here is very similar to what you experienced living on the Ark, but you’ve also been living on the surface for about a month, which may have caused you to forget a few things about how to live in a confined space.
It is vital that all of the doors in our complex remain closed, except when authorized personnel are making excursions outside in radiation gear and through the sealed airlock. The radiation levels outside are lethal for the citizens of Mount Weather, and any exposure, no matter how small is extremely dangerous. Most of our safety protocols are designed to protect all of us from the hazards of radiation, and while you will not be required to adhere to most of our radiation safeguards, we ask that you comply with any orders given by health or security personnel. In the event of an actual containment breach, alarms will sound, and you will be directed to a safe location, in accordance with our procedures.
We may ask you to come in for routine blood tests to gauge how well you are adapting to your new environment. Please report to Medical in a timely manner if you are called upon for testing. Your cooperation is appreciated!
You may find that you have difficulty adjusting back to a closed environment. We have numerous Mood Enhancing Therapy Lights available for use and of course you have access to one of our trained psychotherapists or a doctor who can prescribe medication to ease any anxiety or depression you may be feeling. If you find yourself having trouble sleeping or eating or have a sense of discomfort, please feel free to come talk to us and we can assess the best way to help you.
We want you all to be happy and healthy as you begin your lives here in Mount Weather. Survival and safety are our highest priorities, but it is important that you have a sense of peace and well being in your new home. We are here to help!
Dr. Tsing
Chief of Mount Weather Medical
Important Notice: Obituary
Friends,
It is with a heavy heart that I must tell you all that one of our own citizens, Sergeant James Shaw died yesterday afternoon. Sergeant Shaw was out on a patrol looking for more survivors from the Ark when he was viciously attacked by Outsiders and died as a result of his injuries.
We who have survived in Mount Weather are blessed with safety and security, but this should serve as a reminder to us all of the dangers that exist outside the mountain. The Outsiders are savages with no culture or history to give them a framework for civilization that we have. One day we will return to the surface, and when that day comes we will reintroduce our ways to them. Sergeant Shaw was a believer in our cause, a man who was willing to risk his life to go out into the dangerous world to keep us secure.
As a young man, James was interested in learning history and philosophy, and when he completed his primary schooling decided to continue his education in military history and strategy. He rose quickly in the ranks and became one of the youngest Elite Security Members in the history of Mount Weather at the age of 25. He died far too young, only 32 years old, and he will be missed by everyone who knew him. Sergeant Shaw leaves behind a husband, Michael and a four year-old daughter Angel. Services will be held in the Main Hall at 4 PM tomorrow to pay our final respects.
"New Friends"
Citizens,
As you may have heard, we have some new residents in our midst. The young arrivals come to us through extraordinary circumstances. They are the descendants of those who floated far above the Earth as nuclear hell rained down upon the planet’s surface. Yes, the multiple space stations, which we have come to learn joined together to form what they call “The Ark” have returned to their terrestrial home.
You may wonder how they were able to survive outside where we cannot. We are still studying their physiology to understand how they, like the Outsiders can endure the radiation which still prevents us from returning there ourselves. In the meantime, we offer these 48 refugees safety from the dangers outside, and hope they will find our home welcoming.
I look to all of you to make them feel comfortable here, and integrate them into our society. I’m sure we have much to learn from them, and they from us.
It is an exciting day here in Mount Weather. We have found survivors who are skilled in math and science and are hungry to learn more about our cultural legacy. The potential advantages we could gain as we share our histories of the past hundred years are immeasurable – what medical advances have they made in space, which might allow us greater health and vitality? And what have we to teach them about our practices and the post-radiological evolution of our planet?
I hope you will welcome our new friends and embrace them as new members of our Mount Weather family. We are all stronger together!
"Keepers of the Flame"
Citizens,
As a young boy I would often ask my father about our purpose in life. He would always tell me, “Son, we are the Keepers of the Flame.” It wasn’t until I was occupying the Oval Office myself that I understood his words. You may often ask yourselves as to our purpose on this Earth. Why have we survived when no one else has?
The answer, of course, is that we were blessed with the foresight of generations before us, who planned this facility in the event of a catastrophe like the one that befell our beloved Earth. The horror of the bombs falling all over the world left little hope for the human race. We were given the opportunity to keep the embers of hope alive, so that one day when the Earth is free of radiation we may reintroduce mankind to its Mother Planet.
Those embers are the “Flame” — the spark of human progress, innovation, art and culture. We keep those tiny flames burning brightly here in Mount Weather. As a painter myself, I appreciate the vast stores of our heritage we are fortunate to have preserved here. Many days I have spent wandering the warehouses, admiring the paintings and sculptures of men and women who are but echoes to us. I believe these treasures belong to us all, and therefore will be releasing a vast number of our artifacts to the public spaces within our home. It is only right that we all enjoy the beauty and splendor of what has been created by Man. All of these works give us a glimpse of our history and into the world outside our walls, a world that as of now only a small number of brave citizens can explore for the purposes of keeping our population safe and sound.
I hope you will look upon the walls of Mount Weather with greater appreciation as we now adorn them with the works of Masters. Perhaps there are a few artists among us who will join this pantheon of legends and create new art which can be appreciated for generations to come.
Presidential Order #5436218-A: The Release of Stored Artifacts, A Rotation of Collected Artworks to be enjoyed by the Citizens of Mount Weather
"Legacies"
Citizens,
Our forefathers who came to Mount Weather did so under great duress as the threat of nuclear annihilation neared and then finally came to pass. They brought with them as much of our culture and history as they could in the limited time available to them.
The tragedy of the Outsiders is they have lost all of this – our history, our culture, our shared experiences and learnings… the Outsiders have none of it. That is why it is incumbent upon our citizens to uphold the hopes and dreams of our ancestors to return to the surface with a continuity of our collective legacy.
I appreciate the support my family has had from all of you. The continued faith you have had in the Wallace name as we have passed leadership from generation to generation has been inspiring. You have entrusted us with a solemn task — keeping the spirit of America alive here within the walls of Mount Weather – and we have each taken this responsibility very seriously. I hope one day to pass the mantle of the Presidency to my own son Cage, and I believe when that day comes, he will continue the traditions our family has maintained for the past century.
The world above is not yet ready for our arrival, but one day it will be. One day our children or our children’s children will open the doors and step out into the sunshine. They will walk among the fields and forests, completely free of suits and oxygen tanks and time limits. One day, they will truly be free. Until then, we will live on, safe from the dangers above us, waiting to reintroduce the world to humanity.
