Hello again, once more sorry for giving you too many questions last time, i was excited (and running on very little sleep and caffeine before my body decided to caffeine crash) and have the tendency to ramble. So again, my apologies. this time I’ll make it one single question.
What would Leona’s love language be?
personally in my opinion, it would have to be physical touch and Acts of service. To Leona words have sometimes been half hearted or not at all real: with many of his accomplishments never being recognized in a way that showed how hard he worked to earn the praise. so actions speak a lot louder than words to him, like with ruggie fixing up Leona’s buttons whenever they start breaking, to Leona sees that as something good without having to exchange words about it.

Before I respond, I want to premeptively ask my readers to please NOT request me to assign love languages to the rest of the Twst cast. I know that this type of question tends to spark interest and then snowballs into asking my thoughts on every other character. With Twst’s large cast and 5 love languages to consider for each, it’s a LOT to think about and I just don’t want to be overwhelmed right now 🥲 Thank you!!
I thought this would be a quick response, but my reply ended up ballooning to something much longer than I had initially anticipated 💦 so I’ll place it under a cut!!
I do see Leona being the kind of guy that enjoys physical touch (like cuddles and such). A lot of romantic fan works with Leona in them often portray him latching onto his partner as if they’re a plushie or a body pillow he’s hugging while napping. While I do think it’s a very “him” thing to do, I think there’s a deeper psychological reasoning for gratifying for this.
In my opinion, physical touch provides Leona a sense of gratification. It’s gratifying knowing that there’s something (someone in this case) that’s… there. And not just there, but there for him. A person has a shape, presence, and weight to it. A person real and can be touched and held. A person is solid and doesn’t crumble away into sand assuming he’s not using his UM on them. It’s proof that someone is okay with being physically close to him, that they trust him to be gentle and to not harm them.
That being said, I don’t think Leona is okay with being touched everywhere. He seems pretty sensitive about his ears and tail in particular (it seems all or most beastmen are?), so I think those would be general no-no zones. I don’t believe he would take kindly to his partner touching him anyway (even in “they’re just being playful” way) if he has already made those boundaries clear. Maybe if he’s in the right mood, he’d allow it.
I don’t know if I agree with Leona also being into acts of service. I get where you’re coming from (he’s definitely values acting over just saying pretty words), but rather than seeing acts of service as demonstrations of love, I think he’d take them for granted. Leona is a prince so he is used to being waited on hand and foot—and he can be super bossy about it. The Ruggie fixing the buttons on his vest example actually illustrates Leona’s callousness when acknowledging the work others do for him. Leona does not even realize Ruggie was sewing the buttons back on for him until VIL points it out. Leona thought the buttons reappeared on their own. So… Leona isn’t even aware of the full extent of what Ruggie does for him. All he cares about is that the task was done at all; the time, energy, or skill that went into it is irrelevant. Leona doesn’t fully realize or appreciate service, he usually acts like he is already entitled to it. I can’t recall a time when he sincerely thanked someone for doing him a favor 💀
Similar logic follows for the love language of receiving gifts. As royalty, Leona has been spoiled and had experienced many luxuries. Because of that, he has very discerning tastes and doesn’t really express gratitude for what he has. Again, Leona acts entitled to it all. I don’t think he would be satisfied receiving something that falls short of his high standards. I mean, the guy insults Ruggie’s home and calls it a DOG HOUSE. He refuses vegetables. He complains about anything he dislikes and does not hold back. That would not be conducive to a relationship.
I do agree that Leona wouldn’t be for words of affirmation. A common thing I see in romantic portrayals of Leona is his partner soothing him with pep talks and emotional support via compliments to counteract his servants’ comments. (And if that’s what you enjoy seeing, then you’re totally valid!) The way I see it, though… Leona canonically reacts VERY poorly to attempts to praise him. Cheka, Falena, Kifaji, his own dorm members, other underclassmen (like Epel) frequently extol Leona or his skills. And how does Leona react each and every time? He brushes them off, deflects, or even talks down their compliments. Now, I do think this comes from a place of self-loathing or Leona believing he isn’t worthy/hasn’t earned the praise. However, that doesn’t mean parroting niceties to him all the time will change his mind. If anything, he might double down or perceive the compliments as being insincere. Platitudes, if you will. Words are cheap and a dime a dozen. Actions will always speak louder than words.
Side note, I see a lot of works where Leona’s partner tells him some variation of “you’re the ruler/king of my heart” as a way to comfort him. This may be a hot take, but I don’t think telling Leona that would be all that reassuring. It’s sweet. It’s a nice sentiment. But that’s all it is: “sweet” and “nice” and ultimately empty. It’s not that the speaker’s feelings are insincere, but that the romance is being used as a stand-in for what Leona seeks for himself. The romance is meant to be a substitute that fills in the void in his heart and makes him feel “full”. The reality is that I don’t think a recent love (I say “recent” because most fan works depict Leona dating while he’s still at NRC) can make up for years and years of what he went through. Feeling like he’s unworthy, that he’s not enough… It’s brutal when you’re trapped in your own mind and you’re being very unkind to yourself.
Constantly bringing up being a ruler or a king of something (even in this context) only makes me think it’d open up old wounds, reminding Leona of the home he fled from and the responsibilities he left behind. Or, in another sense, it’d make his throne feel “cheap” or inauthentic because it’s words coming from a biased party and he thinks he did nothing to earn it. Leona wouldn’t feel satisfied with the title and the crown. Something similar happens in his Nightmare Suit vignettes; Savanaclaw praises Leona for being their “king” but he rejects the title for the very reason I specified earlier, it makes the throne seem “cheap”. In summary, he wants to EARN the title of “king” through leadership and intelligence. That’s not equivalent to being called a “king” because he happened to earn someone’s heart. They’re two completely different things.
I think Leona would enjoy quality time. He’s someone who detests expending time and energy on fruitless endeavors (hence why he makes tactical surrenders; to save himself the trouble), so he’d savor the moments when he can be with his partner and do something meaningful with them. Maybe that’s having a deep, intellectual conversation. Maybe that’s playing a game or reading a book. Whatever it is, he wants to make that time together count.

General
First year students are four to a room.
Second year students are two to a room.
Third year students get their own rooms.
Fourth year students go off-campus for internships, and therefore do not require rooms on NRC campus.
Dorm leaders (but NOT vice dorm leaders) get their own rooms, regardless of what year they are.
All students use a communal washroom; not even the dorm leaders have a private one.
Savanaclaw and Scarabia are noted to have empty rooms; it is not known if this is true for other dorms. Yuu and Grim stay in an “empty private room” in book 4.
Heartslabyul has no open rooms. This is why Yuu cannot sleep over in book 3.
Riddle, Trey, Cater, Leona, Azul, Kalim, Vil, Rook, Idia, Malleus, and Lilia have NO roommates because they are a dorm leader, third year, or both a dorm leader and a third year.
It is stated in the light novel that Riddle determines the room assignments for students in Heartslabyul. It has yet to be confirmed if this is the process for other dorms as well.
Ace and Deuce
Ace says he can hear Deuce grinding this teeth in his sleep.
Ace thinks his roommates have it easy and don’t have upperclassmen who cause problems or nag them.
They swap dorm duties and help each other remember the Queen of Hearts’ rules.
Their stuff always mixes with their roommates’ stuff.
No one bothers waking Ace up if he oversleeps.
They play darts or card games (the latter of which have been particularly popular). Deuce says this disrupts his studying.
Ace says a loud-mouthed and stubborn idiot always gets in the way of these games. He doesn’t name anyone, but I assume he means Deuce.
They share comics, taking turns reading every week.
They sometimes share food, as one roommate gives Deuce cookies as a birthday gift the night before.
Deuce is frequently bothered by his roommates when he tries to study. This makes his roommates laugh and intentionally act in ways that distract him.
Ruggie
Ruggie says he gets along pretty well with his roommate. It’s a very “you scratch my back, I scratch yours” relationship.
His roommate is good at ancient incantations.
Ruggie offers his animal linguistics expertise in exchange for his roommate’s help with ancient incantations homework.
Ruggie says he can count on his roomie.
Jack
Jack cannot do stretches in his room because his roommates’ stuff is scattered everywhere.
His roommates ask to copy his homework, which Jack refuses. He tells them to take personal responsibility for their work.
Jack says his roommates stay up late and/or are too loud. For him, who always sleeps at 10 pm every day, this is not optimal.
He doubts his roommates will listen to him.
He complains that his roommates leave their dirty clothes in his personal space. Jack considers throwing the clothes away.
Jade and Floyd
Floyd tends to pile up snacks in their room since he loses interest after he already buys them.
Jade plans on getting more logbooks, encyclopedias, and terrariums for the room.
Jade tends to ramble about the mountains. Whenever Floyd is wide awake, this helps to immediately put him to sleep.
Jade keeps his side neat and tidy, whereas Floyd’s side is messy and unkempt.
Floyd occasionally borrows Jade’s clothes.
Jamil
He says his roommate is “not a pain”.
Jamil describes his roommate as “the kind of guy that doesn’t care at all” if Jamil decides to do stretches in the middle of the night.
His roommate greets him when he returns.
Jamil implies his roommates doesn’t regularly study. However, he does appear to study when he knows he will be busy tomorrow and this won’t have time to do it then.
Epel
Epel sprays fragrances he is gifted to cover the smell of him snacking.
His roommates often ask him what products he uses and what he eats. They then proceed to try and copy him, hoping to attain Epel’s looks.
His roommates compliment his appearance and his cardigan.
They do not know about Epel’s true nature.
They go to bed early in order to get their beauty sleep.
Epel waits for his roomies to fall asleep so he can watch his favorite shows on his phone while snacking.
Ortho
Idia scared Ortho with stories about how awful it was to room with three other students and to have zero privacy.
Ortho chats with his roommates all the time. He finds each or their specialized fields of interest fascinating.
His roommates are excited whenever Ortho debuts a new gear. Ortho answers all their questions.
His roommates usually stay up late, at least past midnight.
He plays video games with his roomies.
Ortho used to “sleep” while standing motionlessly and giving off a faint light. His roomies found this frightening and asked for the school to do something about it.
Silver
His roommate finds Trein’s class boring and falls asleep during it.
The roomie helps wake Silver up when he starts to fall asleep and in the mornings too.
The roommate has to deal with Silver’s alarms every morning. He begs Silver to not buy more.
Once Silver startled his roommates on a rainy day. He had decided to practice with his sword in their room. Silver now warns the roommate before he practices with his sword.
Sebek
Please note: Sebek DOES have three roommates, but we only ever see two in his vignettes.
Sebek seems cold towards his roommates, as he does not find it necessary to get to know them.
He says his roomies are too noisy (when there is a question on an assignment they cannot figure out). Sebek helps them, but is arrogant about it.
His roommates tell Sebek he is full of himself, even if they are grateful for his assistance.
He joins in conversations where they extol Malleus’s greatness.
Miscellaneous
Trey and Cater confirm that they were roommates as first and second year students.
When Leona was a first year, one of his roommate’s alarms went off and it was so loud that he smashed it to smithereens.
Lilia and Malleus’s rooms are currently located next to each other.

He panics internally whenever you're upset, thinking he failed you somehow. He won’t always know how to comfort you, but he’ll try so hard, fumbling through awkward pats, stammered words, and eventually hugging you tightly while whispering, “Don’t cry. Please don’t cry… I can’t bear it.”
Has tea dates ready down to the sugar cube. Every single detail is thought out when you’re involved— teacup chosen based on what he thinks suits your mood, snacks that don’t crumble too much so your fingers stay clean, etc.
Acts awkward when trying to be sweet. If he wants to compliment you, he fumbles over it. “You look… adequate— no, I meant to say pleasant! Is that acceptable? Wait—uh.”
He secretly wants physical closeness. He yearns to hold your hand, but would combust if you actually did. Expect him to brush your fingers “on accident” when passing you tea or opening a door.
The moment he realizes he’s truly in love, He starts wondering not just how you fit into his world, but how he can become someone worthy of belonging in yours.

Love softens him. His rough edges remain, but there's a quiet protectiveness in everything he does now. He pulls you closer while napping, walks on the side closest to danger, grumbles about others bothering you, but does it anyway.
He speaks to you in a gentle, almost soothing tone that contrasts sharply with his interactions with others. When he's comfortable in your presence, his voice takes on a velvety quality, almost like a soft purr.
Does thoughtful things without making a big deal of them. Your favorite drink? It’s in your hands before you knew you needed it. Someone bothering you? He stares them down until they leave.
He performs acts of service, like fixing your uniform, carrying heavy items, and giving you piggyback rides when you're tired. He focuses on making your life easier without expecting thanks.
Let you win in small things. Whether it's a game of chess, cards, or even playful sparring, he intentionally lets you take the lead. Buys your affection—but sincerely. Anything to earn your praise, spoiling you rotten with luxurious gifts, gourmet meals, and perfectly planned dates at sea. But beneath it all, he’s starved for affection—a touch on his cheek, a hand through his hair, and he melts.
Gives you discounts at the lounge, and by discounts, I mean “accidentally gives you everything for free.” He'll offer you “special deals” just so he can see you more often. He gives you freebies, bends the contract rules, and always finds a way to make time for you.
He’s touch-starved but doesn’t initiate. When you hug him? Kiss his cheek? Slip your hand into his? He stares like you’ve cast a powerful spell. He never expects it, but he craves it. And eventually, he’ll shakily start reaching out first, just a little.

Fixes your hair or collar without saying anything. Smooths it down, tucks it back, all while scolding you for not being “presentation-ready.”
Wants to be your muse and your mentor. He’ll teach you how to do skin care or pose for a photo, but he’s also watching you with a soft expression the whole time.
Your presence becomes part of his routine. Face masks for two, helping him memorize lines, dressing you up in elegant clothes because “you deserve to feel like royalty too"

He does things terrifyingly out of character. For you? He will go outside more. He’ll show up to a club event. He’ll make an appearance in person if it means you’ll smile at him. Every time he steps out of his comfort zone, he’s basically emotionally flatlining inside.
Hyperfixates on what you like. You mention a show in passing? He’s watched the whole season. Favorite snack? It’s now stocked in his room.
His hair gives him away. Even if he’s trying to be cool, one compliment from you and his hair flares pink like a sparkler. It’s like having a live feed of his feelings. He hates it but can’t help it.
When you visit his room, he clears a space for you, adjusts the lighting to your liking, and will nervously show you his projects. If you praise him, he’ll go red from his neck to his ears.
He’s incredibly clingy in private. Not emotionally suffocating — but he loves touch when it’s safe. Playing with your fingers. Sitting next to you until your thighs are pressed together. Lying in your lap while he rambles about obscure lore. If you stroke his hair, he’ll fall asleep with the softest smile on his face.
Malleus Draconia ༉⋆｡˚
He wants to protect your smile like a treasure. If something bothers you? It’s gone. If you’re sad? He will spend hours learning how to fix it, even if it means asking Lilia for advice or studying human courtship rituals.
He shows his love through constancy. He always arrives when you need him, even without a word. Appears in the rain with an umbrella. Hovers in the corner of a room because he sensed your mood shift. You don’t even have to call — he knows.
He watches you like you’re a miracle. He’ll listen to you talk about your day with a fond, still smile, like every word is precious. “You’re even more fascinating than the stars,” he’ll say with no irony at all.
He remembers everything. You hate the cold? He’ll warm the path you walk. That you laugh at certain folklore? He’ll tell you all the versions he knows. That you like stars? He’ll conjure an entire sky for you to walk under.
He finds joy in your joy. He was so used to being feared or tiptoed around. When you smile at something silly or laugh loudly at a dumb pun, he lights up.
He takes forever seriously. When he’s in love, Malleus isn’t planning a school romance — he’s planning centuries. A life with you, in every world, in every version of time. “You may grow older. I may outlive time itself. But if you wish it, I will always remain by your side.”
Malleus' favoritism towards the player is so funny because in the jp event others offend him once and he tolerates, but offend him twice and he blows up. Meanwhile the prefect boops him without permission, shows up late and makes him wait, tries to grab his tail etc and he just goes "hehehehe I'll forgive you once because it's you (repeat unlimited times)"
