No, never. Tom understands the concept of love to an extent, he doesn’t understand why someone would sacrifice themselves for another, or unconditional love. But Tom’s way of loving is by valuing another; however in his eyes, there’s no such thing as unconditional value, one is able to lose their value. Tom’s value for a person is the closest thing he’ll ever come to love, which isn’t even that close at all.
