let’s say you’re driving. let’s say the road ends. you knew the road was going to end, maybe, but you still didn’t think you’d get here. you didn’t really expect to be sitting in your car, windshield wipers squealing, engine still purring away, a white and red end sign in front of you.

now, there are a few options. you can abandon your car, wander uphill or downhill until you find another road, and then hope to catch a ride. you can turn around, there’s no one stopping you. either go to a home that no longer exists or drive this same road, again, knowing it’ll end again but then it will no longer be now, right now, when you’re sitting and staring at that sign and i’ve never felt more alone pours out of your speakers. the third option is to keep going. to acknowledge what that sign means, but realize that there’s nowhere to go but forward. maybe that’s the test; you have to drive past the sign, over the hill, and you’ll find the rest of the road just beyond. maybe there is no road beyond. maybe there was never anymore road. maybe you have to get used to the feel of dirt beneath your tires.
