archie: i'll figure out something. football and sports are good for kids, gives them escapes from having to go home or doing stupid homework. idk how i would have made it freshman year without sports

archie: yeah, she is. pretty sure she's already working at the school? but i should be starting on monday and canvasing around the rest of the town this weekend. you free?

toni: sure, we can do this weekend.

toni: i can pick you up, if you need a ride.

toni: you'll be at the El Royale?

   It didn’t happen often these days, not after she’d finally understood and accepted the Blossom curse on her life, and, well, the state of Riverdale that was didn’t exactly inspire her to leave the secure walls of Thorn Hill. But on nights like tonight when she couldn’t hold back that tide of longing for one more second, she allowed herself a few moments reprieve from what her life had become with quiet shake at Pop’s.

“You don’t have to keep yourself locked away, Cheryl.” Toni said looking at the red haired woman sitting across from them. It had been a few months since the pair had last seen each other. Not being able to handle their breakup, they took a step back from each other. When Toni had come home from college, they visited Cheryl and was surprised at how withdrawn their former lover had become. Although she appeared to be the same on the outside, Toni knew something was different.

archie: wow congrats on that. im sure veronica will love to see you kept it going as something that riverdale loves and people actually want to be at.

archie: i wanna help out. do anything i can. hate to see this town go to shit, toni. where can i start and what needs attention first?

archie: yeah, i am signed up for rrotc, recruiting and training but i have about 10 emails from the school about other things that need my help? possibly bring the bull dogs back is one of the subject titles

toni: if only we had the budget, Archie. there's so much I'd love to bring back to Riverdale.

toni: and thanks. is Veronica back in town too? if so, you guys should definitely come by sometime. maybe I can show you guys around?

The one thing Veronica couldn’t get used to was actually teaching a class full of high school students. She now understood why teachers always looked like they were one kid away from downing a bottle of wine mid-class. “I had a small class for economics and then all of the sudden I had so many kids sign up that I didn’t even have desks for some of them,” Veronica sighed softly as she set a pile of papers on the table. “Which means more grading for me and having to figure out seating arrangements that work.”

“Yeah, that tends to happen.” Toni says while grabbing their lunch out of the fridge and taking a seat at the table. Toni knew all too well of the sudden changes that went on at Riverdale High. You think you’re all set to do one thing, and the next thing you know, you’re drowning in something you’re not prepared for. “You’ll get used to it, V. The students are the least of your problems. It’s this forsaken town and the people in charge of it that give the real hell.”

for  most  ,  coming  back  to  their  small  home  town  was  a  change  of  pace  .  a  chance  to  catch  their  breath  after  everything  that  happen  in  the  great  wide  world  .  admittedly  ,  it  WAS  more  peaceful  than  what  betty  had  endured  on  her  own  .  not  that  it  was  hard  .  still  there  were  black  hoods  and  heartbreaks  around  each  old  haunted  corner  .  pop’s  had  been  their  safe  haven  back  in  the  day  .  it  was  no  surprise  betty  would  retreat  to  the  wash  of  red  neon  lights  upon  her  return  .  familiar  cups  of  coffee  keeping  the  nightmares  at  bay  .  a  shadow  cast  over  her  table  had  blue  eyes  flickering  up  to  the  semi  -  familiar  face  .  still  the  same  ,  yet  changed  by  seven  years  .  ❝            what  are  you  doing  here  ?    it’s  ,  like  ,  two  in  the  morning  .  ❞  she  spoke  as  if  she  wasn’t  the  one  clearly  already  settled  into  a  booth  .

after the final musical performance, it was time to shut down the Whyte Wyrm for the night. Toni had managed to put on performances with some of the Serpents as entertainment for guests who came to have a drink at the Wyrm. they had a pretty good turn out tonight. once everyone left, Toni went upstairs to Pop’s to get a cup of coffee before leaving. Toni’s eyes glanced around the restaurant and noticed a familiar face. could it really be the High Pony herself? except now her high pony was no more. picking up their coffee, Toni made way to greet the blonde.  “I could ask you the same thing, Betty.” Toni let out a laugh. “I own the speakeasy below. We were just closing up for the night.” They say offering a warm smile.

archie: yeah, im starting with the el royal and making my rounds. heard my house is being rented out. seems like this place went south so quickly.

archie: damn, did hiram sell it to you? i knew he had a lot of connections but i can't believe he chased so many good people out of this place. good to see you're still around. im supposed to be starting the rrotc program at riverdale soon.

archie: i'm doing good, given the fact i just got into town. it's kind of hard to see all the things my dad built being ripped to shreds.

toni: me, sweet pea, and some of the other serpents put our money together to buy it from him, yes.

toni: it is pretty crappy. those of us who still care are trying our best to keep things at least decent.

toni: you will be working at Riverdale High? wow, it's gonna be pretty nice to see an old familiar face back around.

archie: im at the el royal and it's....something else. looks like kids are sleeping here at night.

toni: idk if you've seen the town yet, but it's a complete wreck. Hiram Lodge is now the mayor and has taken all of the funding away from Riverdale...

toni: i've been doing okay tho. the serpents bought the speakeasy under Pop's last year and it is now the Whyte Wyrm. i am also the guidance counselor at Riverdale High.

toni: if kids are sleeping there, they probably don't have any other safe place to go.

toni: how have you been?
