You Won't - Who Knew (Massachusetts, 2011)
Dog Party - Alright (Sacramento, CA 2014)
The Giles Teen Sisters have a lovely passion for music they defined as Dog Party (mostly love for dogs). What can you ask for more? They're currently on tour with Kepi Ghoulie from the famously Groovie Ghoulies.Head over to dogpartyrocks.tumblr.com to get more news.
The Feels - Dumb Or 21 (New Jersey 2014)
You surely know who the guy behind this band is, especially all the geeks that played The Tattle Tales and Candy Hearts (prior to Mariel Loveland's misunderstood statement on feminism) over and over again just like me. His name is Christian Stefos MIgliorese, whenever something good went on in the underground scene he was in, ha ! Obviously he doesn't disappoint. You can hear a well-done mix of pop, punk and rock somehow (I just throw it in there). He just got an album out called "Dead Skin" which I greatly invite you to listen to. You're gonna be thrown into good pop hooks and some 90's nostalgia. I just picked my favorite, what's your favorite song?
Horse Feathers - Drain You (Oregon, Portland 2010)
Have you ever wondered how #Nirvana would sound in a country setting? Here you go!
Jessica Lea Mayfield - I Wanna Love You (2014, Ohio)
Jessica Lea Mayfield has finally gotten back with a new "unusual" album for her own standards. She completely took a different path on this new album, goodbye acoustic-folk themes and guitars, blonde hair but lost love stories remain and nonetheless the result is just magnificent. Some might say her voice is a bit plain but to me is just Jessica sounding like Jessica. The grudge vibe and an endless "Heart-shaped box hey" will save you from the modern times.
Joe Pug - Nation Of heat (Greenbelt, Maryland 2008)
The anger in me speaks through this.
Valerie June - Tennessee Time (Tennessee, 2013)
THISSS, an amazing album that got overlooked in 2013. Get on it ! Even @EllenPage tweeted about it !
Royal Headache - Down The Lane (Sydney, Australia 2012)
A band who got overlooked and underrated? Meet Royal Headache. This song is just a masterpiece and an amazing mix of whatever was good back in the day. Grab your car / bike / motorcycle (basically just drive) and start make a movie out of your life.
Sera Cahoone - Every Little Word (Seattle, Washington 2012)
Please Sera, I need a new album! This song is way too perfect and I'm scared my desire for new music will just end here.
Wye Oak - Civilian (Baltimore, Maryland 2011)
I've never watched The Walking Dead and yet this song makes me feel like I did.
Tegan And Sara - I Was A Fool (Montreal/Vancouver, Canada 2013)
And the winner for the Best Song of 2013 is: TEGAN AND SARA "I WAS A FOOL"
I don't even need to explain why. Just enjoy! =)
Wet Nurse - Peace Treaty (Orlando, 2012)
What can I say about Wet Nurse? Since the first moment I listened to them my heart just got a magic portion to dance. They pumped 50's energy into my veins that I can't explain. Hailing from Orlando, Fl Vanessa, Nina and Susana just got it all together and I honestly wish them the best and maybe, why not, share a stage? I'm talking like a fan girl. Hope they love fan-girls =)
Goo Goo Dolls - Big Machine (Buffalo, 2002)
You know what people do on Thursday? They ThrowbackThursday. I got late to this party and I asked myself "what's that song that got stuck in my head since it came out?" Big Machine by Goo Goo Dolls (or Goos if you're one of those hardcore fans like myself).
I renew my love for the Goos every time an album of theirs comes out. This last time was really hard for me to cope with their new tunes, I couldn't accept the fact that sometimes artists, who have been making music since forever, get out the worst repertoire ever and still get along with it. That got me back to 2002. Avril Lavigne was new back then, so many memories. I was feeling so rock while listening to this.
The kid in me is gonna be always grateful to the Goos (or Goo Goo Dolls for you newbies).
Allison Weiss - I Was An Island (Brooklyn, 2013)
I've found out about Allison Weiss a few years ago, You+Me+Alcohol was running all over the internet. So catchy, so accurate. My ears were overwhelmed by joy and stress-free. This song just acts up on me the same way. It sounds more truthful everytime I listen to these words.
"I Was An Island" is such a musical inspiration for any musical endeavors.
Worriers - Mend To Mend (Brooklyn, 2011)
This song got me over the edge for a couple of years now. This should be the anthem of what I call "The Basement Scene".
Big Eyes - Back From The Moon (Seattle. 2011)
Mixtape For You just wanted to give you little heads up while Kate Eldridge sings it all. I just got back from the Moon and I'm ready to face Earth.
What interesting facts did I miss? Enjoy Big Eyes!
