hiatus?

hmm.. since mythica is going on a hiatus and some stuff is going to be coming up soon in my schedule. i guess i’ll be taking a smol hiatus until mythica decides to come back. until then i hope you all the best and to see you guys in the near future !

unlikely duo.

Hyunyoung responds with a simple roll of her eyes, turning her attention back to the map placed on her desk. “At this point you should come with a warning label.”

Woohyun was no different than the people Hyunyoung was familiar with, but at the same time those people were not hunters. At least none that she herself had met–and honestly she wasn’t crossing her fingers to ever cross paths with them. He did prove himself to be reliable, however, but her heart remained settled at the edge between them have a simple common goal causing them to work together and her actually giving him her trust. 

That’s a wall she doesn’t see him ever climbing over.

She takes a red thumbtack and places it on the area they would be scouting tonight before she finally turns to him. “But if we get a kill in today, I’ll listen to you chat all night.” She says, pulling her leather jacket onto her shoulders before walking past him and out the door. “And if you can still remember what we’re after.”

“My charming appearance itself should be enough to act as a warning label,” he smirked, “‘high content of charm and smoothness ready to sweep you off your feet’ is what it’d read.” Eyes scanning the map, readying himself for the hunt tonight. Double checking his gun to make sure it was fully loaded before tucking it back, the male stiffly nodded. “Of course I remember.” All traces of the light and airy tone he had before gone.

Although he was used to playing around, joking and carefree, on a daily basis, whenever he went after these certain naturals, his guard was instantly up. There was none of the playful Woohyun people were used to when his hunt was after werewolves. It was as if the male had a personal grudge against those beings - which he did.

Following the female out the door, weapons tucked away as his steps fell with hers. “You better be ready to put on your best listening ears,” he responded, voice laced with something foreign. The tone he only used before he went on a hunt, ready to kill.

Needless to say, this was something she recently anticipated, though if it was something Woohyun voiced that he was uncomfortable with, then Sunyoung would have respected that wish, dropped the subject, and moved onto doing something else to enjoy the rest of their evening in each other’s platonic company.

Now that this was happening, she’d be lying if she said she wasn’t thrilled. Seeing him take the initiative put a smirk on her face and dark eyes matching his; It was pretty hot. Sunyoung’s called him that a few times before, not holding any of her comments back when she was around him, but in this situation the intensity seemed to multiply.

She tilted her head and reciprocated the action upon the initial contact, not pushing anymore than she needed. Her hand raised to rest on his shoulder but let him take the lead to see where he wanted this to go.

The tingle racing down his spine sparked the heat pooling in the pits of abdomen. He pulled back slightly, lips just millimeters away from the female’s as his soju laced breath puffed across her soft lips. “Just tell me if you want me to stop,” he breathed out, eyes searching hers as his fingers inched to the back of her neck.

Not hearing any protest from the other, he quickly dove back in, drinking in the female’s sweet taste as he gently licked at the seam of her lips, probing for entrance into the sweet heat awaiting him. His other hand shifting slightly to insure his weight wouldn’t crush her as continued to press against the female.

“So, for the sake of you, me, and my grades, stay away from my homework,” Myungsoo threatened, and tugged his books closer to himself. It wasn’t that he didn’t appreciate the offer ( in fact, there were a lot of things he appreciated about Woohyun but would rather burn alive than admit it ), it was just better to not upset the balance of things.

“You’re so rude to me,” he whined, eyes shimmering with playfulness as he peeked at the male’s books scattered all over the table. “Nothing’s free in this world, young one,” he stated, dramatically, “but I guess I could give you a discount.” The hunter was about to turn and fetch the male a matcha latte, assuming that’d be a better choice compared to the black espresso the other insisted on drinking on a daily basis.

“Actually, since I’m such a sweet and kind hyung, I’ll give your drink for free and help you with your studies,” he beamed, eyes shining with hope as he announced what sounded - to him - like one of the best ideas he’d ever thought up. “You can trust me!”

His grin instantly turned 180 degrees at the male’s disagreement, face etched with surprise and skepticism. “You’re too mean, Myungsoo,” he weeped, hoping it’d tug at the latter’s heart and get him to change his mind. It was a shallow move but hey, he could do wonders for the male if the other would allow him to.

“ Shut up and stop being a martyr hyung “ Sungjong mumbles, forcing out a small laugh. “ And it’s not your fault, it never was . It’s my fault for being an over confident brat “ he continues, winding his arms around the older male to comfort him.  “ I don’t think I need you protecting me much these days, seeing as I can rip someone’s throat apart with my teeth “ it’s meant to be a joke really but there’s an undertone of sadness in his words. “ But I guess, I should apologize. I should’ve let you know that I was somewhat still around somehow” for being selfish. And maybe he wouldn’t be on this path of self-loathing if he’d let someone help him but no use in trying to change what’s done.  He doesn’t voice out the doubts he has of  Woohyun leaving him behind later on when he’s not himself, when he’s got no semblance of control. Sungjong’s still too afraid to let him back in so easily especially when he still feels so unsure about himself.  The younger simply lets himself be pulled along into the car, sitting quietly. It’s silent but Sungjong still knows there’s tension in the air. “ How are things with you Woohyun-hyung? “ he tries, just to break the silence and get back into the swing of things for letting his hyung back in his life.

Woohyun just smiled fondly at the younger, eyes brimming with more unshed tears as he squeezed the other’s hand. His heart continued to clench in pain as the words spilling from Sungjong’s lips. He could only silently blame himself for the unfortunate outcome the vampire had to deal with. At least he was right, the male didn’t need protecting anymore, for he was now capable of doing so himself.

“You’re here now,” the hunter ruffled the male’s hair, eyes crinkling in the corner from the warmth wrapping itself around the male’s core. “That’s all that matters, Jongie.” His feet taking him, almost on autopilot to the parked Honda Civic. His mind swirling with unanswered questions that he swore he’d later bombard the young vampire with after.

“Huh?” He halted, taken aback by the question directed at him before fishing through his pockets with his free hand for the keys. “Fine, just fine,” he replied, lips quirking up as he released the male’s hand before heading to his side of the car. “Nothing new.” Which was most definitely a lie but Woohyun could only pray the other wouldn’t catch it.

“ You don’t know how it feels “ he screams back because there’s too much anger and fear bubbling up inside Sungjong and screaming seems like the best way to take it out. “ You don’t know how it feels to be some kind of mindless animal, tearing flesh after flesh and bathing in blood”. And then he laughs again because that’s what he is now, some sort of animal. The next words flying out of the hunter’s mouth, catch him off guard and it makes him feel guilty. All he’s been doing all this time is dumping out all his frustrations and yet here was Woohyun just accepting everything he threw and listening. It’s one of the things he misses the most, Sungjong realizes. Actually having somebody to talk to and listen to him. He feels the fight slowly drain out of him then and tiredness settling into his bones.“ I don’t know what to do, what I can do “. For all his bravado from earlier, the younger sounds lost and confused. Ever since he woke-up as a vampire, it’s just been like a constant battle between trying to figure out his life and taking it away. All of the things he’s ever known were taken away from him and saying he’s been coping with it properly is a lie. Sure his caretaker had left him an apartment to call his own, helped him find a job and teach him the basics but that was ll there is to it. “ I’m so lost hyung, I don’t know if I can take this anymore”.  

 When Woohyun pulls him in for another embrace, it’s like all the fight has left Sungjong. The wall he’s been trying to build just crumbles and he’s gripping the older so hard, that Sungjong fears he might bruise him. It’s been a while since he’s had actual physical contact with humans, one that doesn’t involve drinking their blood and it almost feels comforting.

The tears continue to trail down Woohyun’s face as he buried his face into the other’s shoulder, letting his arms tighten around the male. “You’re more than just a mindless animal, Jongie,” he whispered soothingly into the vampire’s skin, “I would take it all and make everything better for you if I could. I would do it in a heartbeat.” His words coming out in choked sobs as the clothes underneath began to grow damper with each fresh wave of tears.

“It’s all hyung’s fault,” he sobbed, hands gripping Sungjong’s jacket as he mentally scolded himself for being unable to protect his precious friend from this. “I should- it should have been me. You wouldn’t have had to suffer if I had just spoke up or taken that path instead.” Hearing the lost and confused voice from the bubbly and sassy friend he used to have torn him to bits.

“I’ll be with you throughout the whole way,” he looked up from where he had buried his face. “I’ll properly do my job as your hyung this time. I won’t leave you again to suffer on your own, I swear.” His tear stained face, looking not as handsome as ever, expressed the sincerity embedded into the words he uttered.

Pulling himself from the embrace, the hunter gently ruffled the shorter male’s hair, eyes twinkling with affection. “It’ll turn out okay, Jongie,” he smiled sweetly at the pained male in front him, seeming so much smaller than he usually did. “Hyung will protect you this time.” Fingers reaching down to tangle in the other’s while his free hand swipes away the last of the tears on Sungjong’s face before tugging the vampire down the same path Woohyun had come from.

“Let’s go to my house, okay? It’s warmer,” he gently suggested. Not that it’d make a huge difference for the latter, but Woohyun hated the cold more than the annoying last minute customers. Despite the heartwarming reunion that just had occurred, the male quickly ushered the two of them towards his parked car to head somewhere warmer.

❝ Yes, I know. Thank you. I appreciate it. It’s just slightly distracting since I keep wanting to focus on the hearts you’re sending my way instead of what I’m supposed to be doing. ❞

The musician didn’t have the heart to tell the other why he was truly asking him to stop. It’d been an ongoing struggle that had been going on for as long as he could really remember. The hearts and support did make him feel more at ease on the stage, and it also helped him to feel good about his performance, but he still thought that maybe there was a little more behind Woohyun’s actions than he was letting come across.

The slightly younger boy felt pretty guilty that he could never tell Woohyun that he’d only ever see him as just a friend. He was sure that he’d been accidentally feeding the hunter false hope for all of this time. The worst part? Chanyeol hadn’t even told the other that he was in a relationship. He knew that was a pretty huge bit of information that probably needed to be shared… so why couldn’t he bring himself to do so?

The answer was obvious. He was terrified of hurting the other’s feelings. They were friends, and they had been for quite a long time, and what if he really hurt Woohyun? He couldn’t bear the thought. Simultaneously, he couldn’t bear the thought of carrying on with keeping his relationship status a secret. It almost felt like he was living a lie. He was most certainly making things a lot worse than they had to be. 

He uncomfortably shifted on his feet and tried to stand a certain way so that Woohyun possibly wouldn’t catch sight of the marks that his boyfriend had left upon his neck. He’d occasionally bring his hand up and pretend to be leaning against it, or he’d look down in an awkward fashion. Laughing rather nervously, Chan reached out and hugged his friend. ❝ Your support drives me. But.. don’t you think you should be focusing on work? ❞ There was another laugh, but this time it was more genuine. ❝ You won’t get in trouble for hanging out with me over here instead of taking orders over there? ❞

“Fine,” he pouted, eyes still burning with energy and a hint of something that’s yet to be identified. “I’ll just send smaller hearts next time.”

Usually the hunter would work throughout the performances that occasionally happened at the cafe - only humming along if the song was catchy enough. His focus directed more on the customers and making sure they were satisfied. Occasionally he would chat up the ones who weren’t paying as much attention to the entertainment or stand behind the counter, cleaning away as he hums.

But with Chanyeol, it was different. He enjoyed the deep voice coming from his friend’s lips as the notes seemingly fly out and create beautiful melodies for the whole cafe to enjoy. Maybe he was slightly more biased than most people but it couldn’t be helped. His heart enjoyed doing a little dance whenever the taller male was around for some odd reason. Woohyun didn’t like placing a label on that feeling - scared of what it’ll mean so instead he chooses to ignore the dance and continues on his stupid ways. Like he usually does.

The hunter could tell something was off with the male now standing in front of him. Either his senses were still sharp as ever or the other male was just painfully oblivious. Instead of pondering too deep into it, the shorter of the two just let himself get lost in the short warmth he felt as Chanyeol wrapped his arms around him. Words slightly muffled as he reciprocated the hug, face slightly buried in the male’s chest, “You worry too much.” He laughs slightly, pulled back just a tad bit, a part of him whining inside at the loss of contact. “My co-workers are used to be wandering around during my shift as long as they aren’t being swamped with orders while I’m slacking,” he grinned up at the musician, dimples peeking out as his eyes disappeared.

“More than enough you say?” she retorted with a challenging smile back to him. “I think your ego might be getting the better of you, my friend.” With their thighs touching, she reached down to pat her friend’s in a comforting manner. She didn’t have any doubts about his capabilities, though. What Sunyoung hated were people who didn’t have the skill nor the abilities to back up their talk, and they’ve talked about their own dating experiences enough to poke fun at each other as witnessed earlier.

Sunyoung didn’t back down from his look, rather she gave him one back and crossed her arms in front of her chest as well. A thought crossed her mind thinking about all the innuendos that they liked throwing around. “You know, for as long as we’ve known each other and for all that we’ve shared about each other, I haven’t had the pleasure to witness it myself.” The emphasis on a certain word definitely was intentional and hinting at something.  It was reasonable why they haven’t crossed that line though, never taking advantage of a situation and rather being comforted by the fact that they had each other’s backs instead.

The hunter let himself lean forward, his right arm steadying himself with the couch as his face stayed inches away from the other’s. “Are you sure about that?” He smirked, eyes darkening by the second as he stared intensely into the female’s eyes. “How about I show you then?” His eyes trailing themselves down to outline the shape of her lips as he slowly inched forward.

Woohyun didn’t know whether it was from the influence of the alcohol that gave him this courage or how relaxed and comfortable he felt around the other. But within seconds, his lips pressed against her soft pillow-like ones. It was something new - definitely not what he was used to.

The two knew each other well enough, constantly hanging out especially whenever Sunyoung had a fail date. There were playful banters about this topic on multiple occasions but surprisingly this was one of the few - if not first time - they would initiate something. After all, the hunter was more of a man that expresses with actions rather than words.

Seunghyun visited this cafe extremely often. It was close by and the coffee was good. More importantly the baristas here knew him well enough to know that the amount of coffee he would drink was basically life threatening. The more important part was that no one ever stopped him. Seunghyun always tipped them really well for their service, although it isn’t necessary, so they were always happy to serve him. 

There was always that one barista though that always tried to stop him. They had a special relationship he could say, but the only way that Seunghyun knew his name was because of his name tag so he couldn’t really say that they were that close. Today Seunghyun didn’t know if Woohyun was going to stop him again, but he could try. It was only his fourth cup of coffee in one hour so it isn’t as bad it could be. He’s done worse. 

It’s not like Seunghyun needs to worry too much about bringing harm to his body it constantly regenerates anyways, which is why he doesn’t look like an eighty year old man. Calling over the barista he knew that the other could obviously see that his cup was empty. “I need a refill.” He hoped that the other male hadn’t been keeping track of how many cups he’s had.

The hunter’s shift was passing by as it normally would. His eyes would occasionally meet with the regulars as he pulled out his genuine smile whenever they walked through the double doors. Occasionally he would find himself wandering around, going from table to table to see if the customers needed any assistance whenever there were no line-ups.

As he was making his rounds, Woohyun spotted the lone figure sitting at his usual table by the windows. His lips quirked into a small smile at the familiar sight, while his mind pondered the amount of coffee the other had consumed already within the short time he’d been here.

The two didn’t exactly know each other enough - hell, the hunter didn’t even know the male’s name. The male assumed the other knew his by the name tag he wore during work shifts. Just as he was going to head in the opposite direction, he heard the possibly older male calling for him.

Approaching the sitting customer, Woohyun smiled down at him, ready to take his mug to refill it once again. “How about decaf?” He grinned, head tilting in a questioning manner as he held onto the mug. “You shouldn’t be drinking so much caffeine within such a short span of time, you know,” he gently scolded. It wasn’t the first time he had done so, having witnessed the male down coffee like he was casually drinking water. “Seriously, it’s unhealthy to the point where I start worrying if I need to call an ambulance on certain days or not.” His eyebrows knitting in the middle, concern etching itself on his face as he frowned down at the other.

Oh great. Now he’s getting concerned over him because of his heavy breathing from earlier. “Me? Oh, I’m fine! No worries!” he nods his head and smiles. “Just- y’know… gotta get in shape! I usually don’t run that much unless it’s for chocolate. I really didn’t think I would have to be fit enough to try and chase my mouse in the streets.”

Woohyun laughed off the male’s actions, “it’s nothing, really.” He winked charmingly at the mouse sitting quietly in the unknown stranger’s hands, “I’d never let a female get hurt - not on my watch.” It wasn’t a lie either. Rarely did Woohyun allow any harm to inflict itself on others - mostly female but pay no mind to that. He preferred to assist in any way he could. That’s just how he was raised.

Being the way he was, it was also second nature for him to worry about the heavily breathing male in front of him. Surely the other would regain his breath eventually, but for now the hunter assumed it would be better for him to take the latter somewhere to sit and rest first.

“Are you sure?” His lips turning down into a frown, head tilting to the side. It was almost obviously that the other still needed a few more seconds - possibly minutes - to get over the excretion. “How about we go to the cafe over there? You can tell me more about your precious lady while we’re at it,” he grinned, dimples peeking out as his pearly whites made themselves known.

Not one for taking ‘no’ as an answer (not that he enjoyed being pushy), Woohyun gently placed his hand on the other’s elbow and led him and his companion to the cafe nearby. Questions raced through his mind, mostly about the mouse companion the male but finding it to be rude to bluntly question the other, Woohyun kept quiet.

“I’ll order, you can find a seat,” he offered, “what would you like?”

     [✽]it was going to be a good night. joohyun was very convinced of this. shehad done a list of some songs to perform later. they had been the ones she hadpracticed the most lately. listeners seemed to love them and the witch couldn’tdeny that being accepted by her crowd was always a good feeling. it made herheart warm with affection. music was important to her life, since it was veryimportant to her. but nothing would be the same, if she didn’t have her crowd. ‘fans’was a big word to use to describe them. she wasn’t famous enough to have fans. they were merely listeners, who enjoyed her songs. only covers from otherartists, because writing a song had always been a problem to her. something shedoesn’t seem to be able to solve.

     placing down her guitar case, joohyun took a deep breath. the list ofthe songs was at in the pocket of her jacket, but she still had a few minutes(maybe even half an hour) before she had to go to the stage. there was a lot oftime for her to take a last look at the songs and start the first chords withher acoustic guitar. the witch was about to unzip the case when someone walkedinto the room. in surprise, joohyun turned around, believing it was the ownerof the bar.

     but it wasn’t. seo joohyun watched the male for a moment before her eyesfell to the guitar case. were they going to have two performances tonight? shecouldn’t remember the owner mentioning anything about this. the witch tiltedher head slightly to the side, watching him puzzled. “I’m the singer for tonight.” she said. “and you?” seohyun had a feeling she had seen the man before butwhere?

a million thoughts ran through his mind at the very moment to explain the reasons why another person was in the backstage room. only one was the right answer and woohyun knew but refused to admit it. the manager could not have possibly booked another singer, could he? the hunter hadn’t been notified if the other male had. sighing to himself, he ran his fingers through his recently dyed blonde locks and turned his focus back on the female.

“ah, well,” he forced his lips into a polite yet friendly smile - one he used often during tough situations at work. “i just happen to also be the singer for tonight as well.” his smile still in place the whole time - not once wavering. 

and here the male thought he could possibly be able to squeeze in last minute practices to insure his performance was close to perfect. he always managed to set ridiculously high standards for himself even if the audience didn’t mind as much. instead of practicing, here he was, standing in front of an unknown female claiming she was the bar’s singer tonight with a suffocating coat of tension covering the both of them. this was not how he expected his night to turn out.

it wasn’t that the (older?) male was heavy, the wolf could take his weight easily, but the scent he reeked of burned his nose and made his eyes water. he never got a break, did he? his poor heart was so confused. it didn’t know whether to jump into his throat, shatter his chest plate as it erupted from his body, or sink right into his gut like a rock underwater. he wished chanyeol was there. the human always knew how to lead him away from such situations when all he could do was freeze up. but he had to fly under the radar. his boyfriend wasn’t here to save him and he couldn’t always depend on him.

“no, it’s ok. really. i should have been watching where i was going too.” he hoped his laugh was passable, slightly sweaty hand using the other’s to haul himself up. “not even a scratch.” he lifted up his hands, an uneasy smile on his lips. 

“are you okay? was i a soft enough landing?”

woohyun smiled uncertainly at the male forcing himself to appear fine.

“no, it was all me,” he quickly assured, making sure the male was steady on his feet before removing the contact between the two. “i should’ve been more aware, especially since i was out running like a madman.” he lightly laughed at that, a bit awkward, sounding kind of forced but over all, it was still a laugh. hopefully enough to ease the odd tension between the two.

“are you sure you’re okay?” his lips turning down into a small frown, noting the uneasy expression the male wore and his previously sweaty hands. his eyes scanning the other to double check even with the male’s reassurance.

“sorry again,” his lips pulling into a tight line, “seriously.” his eyes brimming with concern and sincerity.

now that he was bound to be late, there was no point in rushing. if this was what fate had planned for the hunter then so be it. “was i too heavy?” his eyebrows furrowing in the middle, a laugh slipping through his lips as he jokingly uttered a “yes” to the male’s question (a bit late but bitter late than never.)

upon pausing for a split second, the blonde grinned as if he just thought of the cure to all the problems in the world. “how about i treat you to coffee to make it up to you?” he suggested, “unless you have somewhere to be.. but i swear it’ll be quick.”

The dense aroma of coffee permeated the air and hit him as soon as he entered the shop. At first, he had hated the bitter smell of black coffee, as well as the sickeningly sweet smell of milk and cream, but after awhile he’d gotten used to the smell. It became nostalgic, almost.

He only came back because his favourite place to study outside of his own home was tucked into a cozy corner of the café, where all noise was cut off and people’s noses would be kept out of his business. It definitely wasn’t because he sometimes felt lonely and came here to seek solace in the company of his friend, who very coincidentally worked at this very shop. That would be a big load of rubbish.

As if on cue, that said friend appeared right in front of him, a shit-eating grin on his face. Myungsoo set his things down on his seat with a sigh and a roll of his eyes. He came by enough times that his friend should know what he wanted to order, what he always ordered when he dropped by (double espresso, please and thanks). “Yes, Woohyun hyung, hello to you too,” he greeted, placing extra stress on the honorific because he acknowledged that Woohyun was more mature than him physically, but not mentally.

The day went as it normally would any other shift Woohyun dealt with on a daily basis. Occasional high maintenance customers that just didn’t seem pleased until the drink was perfect to the last drop of liquid alongside with impatient ones that didn’t seem to understand that coffee takes time to make. Aside from customers that would make his genuine smiles waver, the male encountered many that reminded him of the other reason why he enjoyed this job.

Just as he finished topping the last mocha with whip cream, the bell on top of the door dinged to notify them of another customer’s presence. With his practiced smile and honey smooth voice, Woohyun lifted his head to utter a welcome before noticing who the male was. Shutting his mouth once again, he quickly left to deliver the drink.

Rushing towards the lone table hidden in the depths of the cafe, like a pearl hidden inside the confinements of an oyster, Woohyun quietly approached the seated male. The corners of his lips stretched from ear to ear, the male quickly set down the usual order. “Myungsoo, why can’t you just happily embrace that I’m your hyung naturally without emphasizing it?” The hunter playfully pouted. “Also, you shouldn’t be just drinking espresso all day long, want your beloved hyung to whip you up something special after?” His eyes twinkling as he emphasized the ‘precious’. “Then after, I’ll help you finish the rest of your homework.”

The younger male was one of those customers that just came so often, you eventually develop a friendship with the other without even trying. Although, in Woohyun’s case, he always tries - maybe a little too hard. It was almost natural for Woohyun to pester the male on a daily basis whenever he appeared.
