A Merlin x Cyran artwork that Iām abandoning but felt like sharing anyways š

I really liked the concept, it being Cyranās shadow kind of morphing into what he becomes and then the angle of the artwork so Merlin is trying to reach for himā¦
But for the life of me I couldnāt find myself to like it. Iām pretty sure itās the shadows/lighting that stumped me š„²

My own critic paralyzing me from finish my art, I actually did this with another artwork I did for S3ā¦ which was actually my first banner or long artwork. Anyways ā that was off topic.
So Iāve been getting some asks and DMs, Iāve been having a stupidly hard time responding to anythingā¦ but I can make postsā¦ soā¦ idk whatās going on. Technical difficulties, Iāll try unplugging and plugging back in.
TLDR: Try focusing on DPI rather than canvas size if you want your artworks to look smoother for your preferred canvas size. I tried my best to explain why and how:
Although DPI is most commonly used for printing quality, it can also affect the quality digitally too. The lower the DPI, the more pixelated itāll look. The higher the DPI, the more smoother itāll look.
But donāt start making artworks at 1000 DPI, too much DPI can cause lags, crashes, limited layers, and an inflated file size.

Instead! Try and find a middle ground with each size, there is a little math involved. Just think opposites:
The bigger the canvas, the smaller the DPI
The smaller the canvas, the bigger the DPI
To put this into practice:
Letās say your canvas size is 8.5x11 inches which is standard paper size (USA), the best and most common DPI would be 300.
But now you want to make it smaller, so youād half the canvas size to 4.25x5.5 inches. You would then need to double the DPI to 600.
Now you want to take the original and make it bigger, so then youād double the canvas size to 17x22 inches. Youād then half the DPI to 150.
Itās more accurate if you measure with pixels rather than inches, but like I said I prefer inches. Donāt be afraid to round either, it doesnāt need to be perfect.
Hopefully this was helpful, there was a time I struggled a lot finding the āideal canvas sizeā to make clean artworks, when in reality I just needed to change the DPI ā which I avoided because it was intimidating (still is)

At this point this game is being stripped of the things I loved the most: A small community of friends, enjoyable AFK stage progression, and most importantly the loreā¦
I think what makes me more upset is that they didnāt even mention the removal of reputation quests, they just did it.
I get it, they need money. Itās bright as day that revenue has dropped and just continues to drop. But the way theyāre going about it just feels like a AFK Arena 2.0. Which idk what I was expecting, itās Lilith. Maybe I hoped that this one would last, that it wouldnāt cave in on itself.
Iāve just been so upset since this season startedā¦ and seeing more people talk about it has made me want to put my foot down.
Actually Iāve been upset since the last contest finished. Never said it publicly but I didnāt win anything, not even just 1k diamonds or whatever. 3 submissions with 1 large artwork I spent a whole month on. To this day it still feels suspicious. Didnāt bother to ask support since I knew I would get some AI response unless I spent more money for the VIP treatment (which is absolute bullshit btw)
This will be the last contest I participate in, as Iām pretty much almost done with the artwork anyways. I wanted to do more but Iāve pretty much lost motivation. The $400 reduction to the winnings is such a mood killer too.
At this point I might just adopt Merlin and Cyran as my own OCs and make my own spin off on the lore.
Iāve also wanted to put my actual OCs (Myra and Grim) into the AFKJ universe, like draw them out as collab heros and I was gonna share it as an April fools joke next year. I might still do it for shiz and gigglesā¦ idk.
Iām just really bummed out and I think I need a break from this game :(
Damn Crown of Ashes. Now I'm drawing Cyran while crying even more desperately and hopelessly. I'll keep drawing him until Lilith gives us a romance with him, or at least lets him atone for his sins / save us š
