Don't be fooled by the fact that these are referred to as "anti-furry" bills; much or most of them talk of nonhuman identification, including several that outright include the term "transspecies" in the actual writing of the amendment proposal or bill and define it in a way that applies to our community.
I do agree with the fact that no-one should use their personal experiences of oppression to dismiss bigotry and prejudice faced by others, or to try and use their own forms of suffering to deflect from much-needed criticism. I also agree with the fact that the systemic violence experienced by many groups isn't comparable to what therians face. These are just facts, to be honest! No one should be doing any of that shit of arguing that they can't be racist because they're queer, alterhuman or otherwise. There's literally no excuse for it.
But the idea that alterhumans are exempt from politics or that there is absolute no risk for being a therian in public is a myth and it's an extra important myth to deconstruct given the recent explosion in LATAM with the ongoing hoax of a "therian attack," and the AI-generated videos that have been pushed online to make therians look dangerous (and, of course, the therians who have been lured to false meetups and attacked, and the publications that have been rolling out from it). Even without systemic oppression in place for this community, it is still incredibly important for therians to 1) use common sense about how safe it is for them to be public about their identity to their local community, family, and friends, and 2) stay up-to-date on changing legislature and the political landscapes in the public zeitgeists around therianthropy, because it is changing. You do not "just" risk a little bit of razzing when you are a therian, depending on where you live, and people need to keep that in mind and stay safe.
Both things are true at the same time. People in the community should not pretend that they're immune from bigotry just because they're also queer (but are not a part of any other relevant group); they don't know what it's like to experience the forms of oppression that are being brought up, and they need to listen to others when they tell them they're being racist, bigoted, discriminatory, etc. And also that it's not always 100% safe to publicly be a therian, and that they are currently affected by the eyes of the law and the eyes of society; keep your claws on the pulse-point of local politics, because you might find it sneaking up on you since very few people are actually reporting on these laws. The first fact is important and valid regardless of the ongoing political landscape around therianthropy, but it's still also important to not dismiss that these laws and political changes do exist and are going to have affects as well. The latter definitely does not negate the former.
