I think Indiana residents should be aware of HB 1480, an "age verification" bill, that passed in March 04 and set to be enforced on July 1st

Summary (2026-03-04) Education matters. [Public Law 100]

Article 16 of the bill vaguely restricts social media for kids under 16 if they don't have "parents permission" (parents ID) and doesn't allow them to make an account without "parents permission". If you don't like age verification like I do, you can see the problem here. Basically ill defined features and ability to make an account are restricted if you don't want to fork over an ID to something like Persona. Hoosiers, call your reps (5calls and badinternetbills allows you get their numbers easily just by typing in your zip) to demand a repeal either removing the law or article 16, or fund any lawsuit against the law because age verification in general is pretty unsafe and takes away freedoms.

I have been told by a redditor the law would go into effect in January of next year, not July, if we are reading it right. (I don't know anything about law)

I got the July date from a deleted account, which previously said the January date before saying it was actually July, so I assumed the later is the correct one. If the age verification part won't be in effect until Janurary, then I guess the confusion came from the fact that age verification section was slapped onto a unrelated law that had nothing to do with it, and that bill was to go into effect in July.

I'm not too quick to pull the trigger, but if true means there's more time to fight.

Regardless, I wrote a small script for calls, I'm not very well informed despite my efforts, so change any inaccuracies you spot:

I'm calling to urge (your representative) to demand a repeal of Indiana's HR 1408 to remove Article 16. Current methods of verifying age are can be both or either unreliable or unsafe. Sites that had enforced age verification had experienced serious data breaches due to such laws. If you want to Indiana residents to be safe, making them vulnerable to criminals is not the way, instead you should look into laws that alters the addictive systems themselves.

there’s this term i coined in my friendgroup i call “the charizard effect” and it can apply to anything and everything, but it was born from me explaining my feelings about the pokemon charizard. the term is basically about how overexposure to something be it by corporate shilling or fandom prominence drives me away from really enjoying something bc i’m exposed to it so much against my will i become tired of it. it came to me bc i was ranting about how tpci does not, and cannot stop reinventing charizard, and how it is popular and obtusely included in almost every region, merch, etc in every way possible and it’s highly commodified.

i dont dislike the pokemon charizard, in fact i really like its X form, but i am exposed to so much charizard in my pokemon consumption that i cant be bothered to care for it in any more than in passing. this applies to a bunch of other stuff i’d otherwise be ok with, but i always just call this aversion phenomena “the charizard effect”
