The 90s BATMAN series
1989/1992/1995/1997 Tim Burton/Joel Schumacher
Batman/Batman Returns Soundtrack by Danny Elfman Batman Forever/Batman & Robin Soundtrack by Elliot Goldenthal
I used and altered the logos from the original posters The Fonts used for the texts are Caligula Dodgy and Typography Times For this series, I wanted to connect all movies into one visually coherent collection.
Only the three first soundtracks have been released in their expanded version, but I’m hoping the last one will eventually get the same treatment.
For Batman and Batman returns, I decided to rebuild John Alvin’s teaser poster arts (Fully for Batman and partially for Returns). I noticed his logo wasn’t symmetrical and wasn’t aligning from one film to the other. So I re-drew a perfectly symmetrical Bat. I then re-painted all the rims, shadows and lights trying to make the whole feel more vibrant and “reel” than the original airbrush illustrations (with more realistic shine effects).Â
For Batman Forever, I switched the blu color from the poster to a purple, that’s more in tune with Two-Face character in the film. And I modified the composition to bring the Bat in the center and bigger to keep the continuity with the previous covers.
For Batman & Robin, I added the ice texture (to bring Mr. Freeze in the picture) and turned the bat into a hole, opening the ice to let the light shine thru and have the Robin sign silhouetted.
THE INCREDIBLE HULK TV Series
1977-1982 /Â Kenneth Johnson
Music By Joe Harnell
Title Logo is my own creation Font used for logo and text is Avant Garde LT
The score for this show directed by Kenneth Johnson in the late 70s early 80s was self published by the composer Joe Harnell’s own company. And the cover art was all over the place, with no visual consistency across the 5 CDs.
I wanted to create a unique design for all the albums with only few elements changing in order to give some continuity between each of them.
I wanted a photo that portrayed the tow characters who share the same body in a dramatic lighting. So I looked up all the printed promo for the show that was available online. There were many but a lot of them had David Banner either smiling of striking a pose that didn’t feel dramatic enough. I eventually found one where he was looking deep enough. I enhanced it with a red lens flare. There wasn’t a proper logo for the show except the one borrowed from the comic book, which was rather unfit for the cover in my opinion. I search for TV promo on Youtube to look at how TV networks were titling their commercials for it. I found this one from CBS using a simple bright orange sans serif font to announce the new episodes. I found it pretty in tune with the era of the show and easy to compose with. And the final touch was the “printed halftone” effect I applied on the whole to evoke the time when the TV programs were on paper.Â

What and why?
A few words about me and the reasons for this Tumblr to exist.
I'm a former Graphic designer turned Animator/Creative Compositor in the animation industry. Since I was a kid and discovered a passion for movie scores, I've always enjoyed making my own version of the audio tape covers back then, composing them with pictures I'd cut out of the free video club's catalogues I would grab every other week. Then came Photoshop, Illustrator and Xpress (then Indesign). Photoshop was a revelation for me, I could finally create visuals that could be compared (at least in my teenage delusional world) with the works of professionals. As I shifted professionally from static to animated pictures, I kept that passion for composing for printed visuals. It's been a hobby since and somehow, turned into a kind of addiction lately. Here I'm sharing my passion for cover art, titling and poster artists. And I’ll be sharing the fruits of my personal labour, with some behind the scene bits here and there. My creations aren't pretending to be more than humble repurposing and re-editing of exiting arts created by amazing artists. I hope you'll enjoy.
