Just some of my favorite moments from The English on my 1000th rewatch. (I skip B story parts and all of episode 4 because I can’t really handle it)

End of episode one when Eli is testing if Cornelia can shoot to kill (the piggy 🥲). Dialogue is straight from the captions. ( ) are their action and my thoughts. 😅:

E: Them all been waiting for you? (Cocks rifle)

Like they knew you was coming. (He is always on alert, wants to know if people are coming for her)

C: Yes (She takes the gun and aims it at the pig)

E: You know how to dry it? (the pig)

C: hmm?

E: You can’t carry a wet pig. Not from here to Kearney.

C: Where’s that?

E: North a ways. From there you’re on your own.

C: (smiles, this is the first he has said he will take her) So not just killers and thieves then. Has one such as you within it.

E: Been both, likely both again.

C: How do you do? (She stops aiming at the pig)

E: Better on my own.

C: (first time she laughs, I imagine in a very long time) No, what’s your name?

E: I have many.

C: But which do you like?

E: None

C: That’s something else we share. (I love how she is always finding common ground between them💕) Mine’s Cornelia Locke. Lady Cornelia Locke.

E: That make you wife of a chief? (Sir. Asking if she is single already?)

C: Daughter. I’ve never been married. Never will be. (😢) I’m also a Scorpio. Do you know about that?

E: What? (🧐)

C: Your star sign. Um, in London it’s all the rage. I’ll tell you about it. (Finally aims at the pig again) Mine’s about revenge. Can’t help but think yours is too. (He didn’t let that shit sniffer comment slide)

E: (the way he moves his lip to the side just scream him holding back agreeing with her. Love it!) Aim for the head.

*bang* (end scene)

(I just adore how direct and concise their dialog scenes are. They talk about so much and go so intimate but they barely say anything. I just so adore them. I have never had a fandom where I have claimed I wanted a couple as parents, but I have want them as figurative parents (or I guess in historical context great or great-great grandparents) I adore them!)

I am really not prepared for the 3 week overlap of The Last of Us and The Mandolorian Season 3. Mando 3 premiers March 1. And the finale of The Last of Us is March 12. No such thing as too much Daddy Pedro.

It has been exactly 10 days since I first saw The English. I have not gone a day without watching an episode (at least) or reading a fanfic. I have read absolutely everything on AO3. As heartbroken as I remain, the show is absolute perfection. I cannot recommend it enough.

I just want to give a shout out to those writing fic for The English. (2022) We're just a wee little fandom, with only 13 fics currently on A03. But I've read every single one of them, and they are all perfection. Seriously, every single one is quality. I hope our little fandom continues to grow but considering the show is only a mini series, I think it's kind of unlikely. It's probably always going to be a small. I'm in the middle of editing my own fic at the moment. I have to tell you, I haven't written fic in well over a decade but this show just hit me so hard that I couldn't stop myself. It's certainly gotten the creative juices flowing, as good art usually does. Thank you, fellow writers. You're all *chefs kiss*
