Random snowy day in Denver meant I got to give out some of the winter accessories left over from a mild winter. People needed these things way more than I was anticipating, blanket and glove needs are out there.

I’m in a crisis point right now. The house I am currently living in had its ceiling suddenly cave in and the house has become uninhabitable until they can fix it. The big problem is that I cannot afford a hotel room and none of the people I know are willing to take me in. So, I’m on the brink of utter homelessness, without even a car to sleep in.

I would like to humbly ask for your donations are to this cause so I can afford a living arrangement. Because if I can’t, I’ll be forced to lose my great job and leave all of my friends behind to live with my thoroughly abusive and transphobic parents.

Want to Feel Sick?

Drive anywhere nice in Denver. Check out how the transportation department put up No Trespassing signs on every bridge to keep people from seeking shelter. Check out the sharp rocks that replace the grass in spots people could find comfort. Check out the ugly black spray painted boxes saying to Keep Away anywhere that someone has had the audacity to rest. I see government buildings, shadowing over pregnant, hungry homeless women as the employees walk out and are willingly blind to the pain around them... I love Denver, but it makes me sick sometimes.

From a series titled Inhabitants of the Empty. Syuzanna, age 9, sits in a “shelter” made of old rusty car parts in front of the abandoned building she lives in Gyumri, Armenia. Ten days earlier Syuzanna’s father committed suicide, people said, because of his debts. In 1988, a 7.0 Richter-scale earthquake struck northern Armenia. The quake killed at least 25,000 people in the region. Thousands more were maimed and hundreds of thousands left homeless. Gyumri, Armenia’s second largest city bore much of the damage. Large-scale war in the early 1990s, the collapse of the Soviet Union, an energy shortage, and a blockade that left landlocked Armenia with just two open borders contributed to exacerbating the region’s already prevalent social and economic problems. A quarter of a century later, Gyumri has the country’s highest poverty rate at 47.7%. The city has lost nearly half of its population since 1988, due in part to the migration of the labor force. A few thousand families are still living in makeshift shelters, waiting for help. Many of them are not eligible for new housing, since they are not considered to be direct victims of the earthquake. 25 years later, they are still waiting for urgently needed improvements to their dwellings. During the Soviet era, these huge twin dormitory buildings on the outskirts of Gyumri accommodated around 60 families each. Today there are just four families living here, among decaying walls and corridors.

A woman with mental illness froze to death in Portland, Oregon, after being evicted for $338 in overdue rent

A woman who died of hypothermia in a Portland, Oregon, parking garage on Saturday had been evicted from a low-income housing facility in October — after falling $338 behind in rent, according to reports.

Fifty-two year old Karen Batts had grown up in Portland. She had schizophrenia and had lived seven years in the Oak Street Apartments

Oak Street is a housing facility for seniors and people with disabilities that is managed by Northwest Housing Alternatives.

For much of that time, Batts was a “model resident,” but over the last year “her behavior changed.” Martha McLennan, executive director of Northwest Housing Alternatives. Read more

LGBT Homeless Youth

Almost 40 percent of homeless youth on the streets or in shelters are LGBT. Most of these youth cite fear of family views or being kicked out by family members as the reason for their homelessness. Other reasons include aging out of the system. There is some support for these youth, either from sympathetic charities and shelters or former LGBT homeless. Other than that, support for LGBT homeless youth is the same as other homeless youth.

hi my name is lennon logan and i’m a soon to be 17 year old trans boy living in allen, texas. i’m walking a very thin line in my current household with a very unpredictable verbally abusive mother who is currently on disability because she is slowly going blind.

the jist of this situation is that i’m not doing very well in school because i am mentally ill- and with lack of decent health insurance, i currently have the same diagnosis i received when i was 13 years old despite the fact it’s clearly inaccurate; as a result my mother reminds me every single day that if i fail one class this second semester, i will be kicked out of the home with nowhere to turn.

i’m aware of the fact this could easily be avoided if i devoted every second to my school work, but i am unable to sit down for hours on end and do a single task without being overwhelmed, and eventually dissociating.

i’m not trying to say i’m not going to try at all, but i’m afraid i’m just very uncertain of whether or not i will be able to pass every single class; in the event that happens, i need somewhere to go until i can figure something out.

the tensions in the household are currently very high so in all honesty, sometimes i feel as if i’m not even guaranteed another night here.

i am simply trying to prepare for the worst because if i am to be ejected from the home, my mother is planning on stripping me of any personal electronics and funds, leaving me with nothing but a pack of clothes.

if this is to happen, the ideal plan would be to have someone’s phone number i could reach via a telephone at the walmart only 2 minutes away from my current home by foot, and hopefully have a ride to a safe location…

i have not planned this out very much, but i could use the help to execute something similar by someone who is willing while also having the ability to do so…
