Plus a pumpkin pie liqueur makes three for the year. The buzzball was disappointing and the cheese was too sweet but the liqueur was great!

I actually thought I would love this despite other people hating it. I do like that it’s a direct prequel leading to the start of the other one, because the other one implies some cool shit went down before them and that does deserve its own film. The finding and excavating of the creature is important. The acting ad chemistry of the two leads was great! The real problem lies in the lack of creativity with the plot and the cgi special effects. It’s not that they were bad, but I wanted the practical effects that were so good in the original. They barely did more and it didn’t look better. The plot mirrors the original so closely that I started doubting it was a prequel and thought it might be a direct remake. There’s no way the crew did everything the exact same as the other one. A lot of scenes were direct rip-off’s. The ending I liked and was okay with, it’s the middle parts I struggled to enjoy. I know John Carpenter is supposed to be involved with a new Thing movie and I’m very excited for that.

I didnt hate this, but I felt like it was just getting going and then it ended! I was actually shocked because I thought there would be a lot more to it. I liked the stuff with the Carmichael family and expanding the lore. I liked the shocker ending about Mitchell, but like what else!? Is he bad or good, what was he doing by there?? I have so many questions and yet it’s all over. I would take a few more films tbh. I didn’t mind that it wasn’t found footage this time. It allowed them to show a lot of different times and events and try to wrap up loose ends. But ultimately I was still left with a bunch of questions and the exorcism didn’t work so it felt like nothing changed or got resolved. Reeeeally hope they make 1 more film.

I thought this was really fun. Each story was kinda scary and kinda goofy. The first one was by far by the scariest but the overarching soda story was my favorite. I thought this was really fun for Halloween!

Really liked this! A much stronger showing from Zach Cregger. I think the plot was really strong and the execution even stronger. Definitely parts that were scary, parts that were fucked up and brutal. And you have both the children’s fear and the adults fear of not being able to protect your children. The witchcraft element I liked. I wasn’t sure if it was something scifi or supernatural. My one complaint is the giant sky gun. I liked that the end chase was funny and ended really graphic. The last like was good but could have been executed in a scarier way and less comical. It made the ending a bit weird and my partner felt the same. But overall a really good really strong movie! Also the running style is so iconic. And so is the bad guy! Probably a new horror classic.

This really added nothing. The other one was better. You think with more money and better special effects they could have expanded on the story and done something more interesting but I felt this was just a waste of time. At least the original was scarier. Maybe this one is less scary because you already know what’s gonna happen. The acting was worse than the first one somehow. The clapping really was the nail in the coffin for me.

This was not a bad remake but it wasn’t very scary. Like they didn’t even build much suspense. And the kills were pretty mid. The whole thing with the killer was obvious and the secondary reveal wasn’t much of a shocker. I wish that Jennifer’s character was actually more involved, but she stays out of it by choice until the end. The post credits scene was funny but I have doubts this will get a sequel. Ultimately I liked it enough but the acting wasn’t great and all the characters are pretty unlikable and I prefer the original a million times over.

I went a bit insane and watched all 4 of these movies last night. I am only going to count them as 1 post so I can discuss them all and not break them up simply because it’s too much work and also because I love them! The 5th one drops on shudder on the 30th and I’ll be watching it for sure and I’ll make a separate post for that. I honestly love these films. I think next year my theme for the month is going to be all found footage films. For some reason they used to annoy me but now I find them to be in the top tier of actually scary movies, possibly because there’s a sense of realism that you get from handheld cams versus an obvious big budget film. The plot of this is great and simple, a haunted house set up in an actually haunted house. Love the way it’s filmed like a true crime doc. Apparently that’s the sweet spot for me. The clown is so fucked up. The subtle shifts and small things that happen reallly build an unnerve you. There’s not a ton that’s super original or gorey and it is predictable but that adds to the dread because you know what’s coming and it still gets you! They repeat this in all the films and it always works. Appreciate the lore building with the hotel and the main cult guy and even the side family that was affected because their son worked at the hotel. All of it is fucked up and genuinely scared me and o had a hard time sleeping and that’s rare for me. I’ll be sad when the last one comes out and it’s all over
