Men who insist on marriage not because they are traditional, but because they want you bound to him in every single way that matters;
Listening: Pretty Little Psycho- Porcelain Black
It is an indisputable fact: he loves you.
A love so potent that it has mutated into something ghastly and unbearable to be looked at by mortal eyes. Something that more closely resembles the inner self he carefully masks in front of you.
He is the perfect gentleman- handsome, respectful, and so achingly romantic. He has never touched you without explicit consent, and had waited a while before you two actually had sex, which you had to initiate yourself because he was terrified of crossing boundaries. To take something you hadn’t offered freely.
He had made it abundantly obvious early on that he intended to marry you one day. That he would not leave the bond you two had suspended in ambiguity.
“How proper," you always coo at him in your sweet voice, finding his chivalrous charm refreshingly endearing in this day and age.
But he was not proper. He was a beast.
He insists on marrying not for propriety but for strategy- so that when he unveils the true depth of his obsession, you can’t run away from him.
You didn’t know he was ravenous for you, hungry in a way that almost felt lethal to him and you. And he was afraid when he finally dropped the mask- kissed you the way he really wanted, fucked you the way he really wanted- you would get scared and run.
And he doesn't even want to imagine the look of disgust and horror on your face if you discovered the room he maintained as a shrine to you: pictures of you- surveillance and the goofy selfies you took with him side by side- covering the walls, a box of random trinkets housing your discarded hairbands, pins, jewellery that you accidentally misplaced. A scarf, a bandana. Even the jacket that belonged to you which he loves to bury his nose in. A room he maintained to rest in when he missed you too much.
You would definitely run if you learnt of the trackers he planted in all jewellery he gifted you and in all your devices, so that he could have your location at all times- just in case, he tells himself. Just in case you needed him to come to you.
Losing you was his biggest fear- he was terrified of you leaving him in any way.
His love grows teeth with every soft, loving kiss you plant on him, with every embrace, with every night you spend in his bed and let him touch you.
"It sounds sexy only in books," you say, casually chewing your crisps, reading another one of those depraved romances you liked to unwind with "but if a man did this in real life, I would have that restraining order out so fast," you say between your loud chewing, and his eyes flit to your engagement ring for just a second before going back to his own book, his hands caressing your feet with the content smile he only shows you, as the tracker in your ring hums away unnoticed.
Yes, marriage was the right decision.
He needs you tethered. He needs the law on his side. He needs the weight of family, of shared property, of intertwined tax returns, of a future so meticulously entangled that pulling a single thread would unravel your entire life... so that you would never be able to run away if you were to find out about all that he had done. That he keeps doing and will keep doing.
He’d never give you a reason to want a divorce from him, of course. And he’d burn down every lawyer’s office in the country if you still wanted one anyways.
You couldn’t leave him- he won’t allow it.
But you didn’t need to know that.
