Distilling downtown Newark to a network of necessities (Warmth + Wifi) raises a critique of who it actually serves the most and to what extent. Newark is a developing city with great economic and social potential. But like many other cities, there is a great homeless population that some members of society assign a negative stigma to. In centering the project around warmth and wifi, the proposed building will not only provide the homeless with these necessities, but also the rest of the general public. These two necessities can be highly publicized, but at the same time, highly privatized. By channeling these means of survival across this spectrum, as well as through controlling the access points of public spaces through program layout, allows for the mixing of two groups that need to be reintroduced to each other.

Ground Floor serve the public and the resident through these programs: Market: provide food for the communities. . Art Studio: a space for the communities to keep developing/growing their art. Library: Library: for usage of information and knowledge. Cafe: gathering space to drink warm coffee. Amenities: space providing some activities. Kitchen: space for everyone to gather as one big families as they feast together. At last, A Plaza: a large common space to socialize with the communities. The homeless would volunteer to serve this program. (Site Strategy: we place the Market toward Market Street since it’s more business focus, and Library, Cafe, and Library toward the prudential. Also the Plaza look upon toward a smaller plaza of the prudential center.)

The Second Floor serve the resident and the public through these programs: An Exhibition: that allow the communities of newark to exhibit their talent. Art Studio: a space for the communities to keep developing/growing their art. Library: for usage of information and knowledge. Rehabilitation Center: provide the homeless with programs that will them get back on their feet. Classes: class that will teach them software program,craft and culinary skills. The homeless would volunteer to serve this programs.

The Third Floor where the units are located as well through cluster. The way we distributed/organized (the cluster that contain several units inside and a shared space that include the necessities) was to push aside the units that used wifi while the others units were located closer to the medium warmth. The Corridor itself serve as heat source becoming the ultimate sauna. The ultimate sauna is located in the center of the floor, while the heat become less intense as it disperse through the space. The ultimate sauna is a public space that connect everyone through warmth and comfort. Also, the introduction of a patio connect all the cluster. A space for gathering and seek nature. Also, a big opening among the market to exchange interaction among the resident and the public which serve a sauna as well.
