When I'm having fun with his siblings and forget for a minute that they're Mormon...then they make a Mormon comment
When they post about how “family is forever”
The next time I’m around his family after reading about the washing and anointing that goes on in the temple
First I’m just uncomfortable...
Then ...
When they say that they don’t want to go on their mission, but they know this is a challenge from God so they’re doing it anyways
When they have annual interviews to determine if they’re still in good standing and able to continue to enter the temple
When every holiday there’s more and more babies in the room
When we’re visiting on a Monday and his mom gives a Powerpoint presentation for Family Home Evening
When they claim the Book of Mormon is "unchangeable truths"...which is why blacks couldn't have the priesthood until 1979? And that dancing was a sin but now it’s not? And that polygamy was allowed until the US outlawed it? But it’s unchangeable...
My boyfriend and I at their house when they get home from church...
Enterprises of The Corporation of the President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints. Otherwise known as the Mormons
Somehow seeing the corporate logos of church owned business makes it feel a whole lot less like a religion. Doesn’t it?

Repost seems appropriate given the news of the CEO’s incomes.

When I stumble upon Mark Twain quotes about Mormonism...
“The Book of Mormon, engraved upon metal plates, was dug up out of the ground in some out-of-the-way corner of Canada by Joseph Smith, a man of no repute and of no authority, and upon this extravagantly doubtful document the Mormon Church was built, and upon it stands to-day and flourishes...Evidently one of the least difficult things in the world, to-day, is to humbug the human race.”
“The book seems to be merely a prosy detail of imaginary history, with the Old Testament for a model; followed by a tedious plagiarism of the New Testament. The author labored to give his words and phrases the quaint, old-fashioned sound and structure of our King James’s translation of the Scriptures; and the result is a mongrel — half modern glibness, and half ancient simplicity and gravity. The latter is awkward and constrained; the former natural, but grotesque by the contrast....Whenever he found his speech growing too modern — which was about every sentence or two — he ladled in a few such Scriptural phrases as ‘exceeding sore,’ ‘and it came to pass,’ etc., and made things satisfactory again. ‘And it came to pass’ was his pet. If he had left that out, his Bible would have been only a pamphlet.”
“The book is a curiosity to me, it is such a pretentious affair, and yet so ‘slow,’ so sleepy; such an insipid mess of inspiration. It is chloroform in print.”
When we drive up to his parents’ house that has a gigantic nativity scene on their front lawn...seriously bigger than lifesize
When they ask us for clothes from a missionary clothing store for their Christmas gift...
They have a right to ask... and I have a right to choose where I spend my money and I won’t financially support that
When #lighttheworld is the new bane of my December social media feed
In the February of 2007, during my final semester at BYU, I was driving to my job south of campus when I passed this billboard. I was intrigued. I waited until my lunch break to visit the site, feeling a shiver of trepidation. If it was anti-Mormon, this was worse than looking up porn. The first words I read were, “You are not alone.” My heart began to pound. I glanced around, terrified that someone would see. But my coworkers were all focused on their computer screens, headphone wires snaking into their ears. I glanced back at the page and noted the “total members” of this online community. There were thousands. I clicked on a tab called “Exit Stories” and began reading. These were surreal in their familiarity. I told my boss I was sick and went home to pull an all-nighter reading and researching. To say that a billboard changed my life is an understatement. It blew it apart and I’ve never been the same…and I’m grateful. The online postmormon community saved me during the most difficult transition of my life.
Love this!
Christmas is on Sunday this year and we realized this after we agreed to spend the holiday with his family...
