A collection of Amber quotes (from different places) for International Women’s Day
Anon requested an Amber appreciation post for Women’s Day, so here goes.
There are few women who look like f(x)’s Amber in kpop, and in 5 years she’s never changed herself to fit the mold. She wears baggy clothes, hates heels, plays sports, she’s loud, she’s dorky—she’s not like the other girls.
But what makes Amber great isn’t that she’s different—it’s that she’s telling people, “I’m beautiful. I’m the coolest thing out there. And so are you.” She never claims to be better than the other girls—she celebrates and loves her hyper-feminine members and industry rivals, smashing any notions of competitive malice to pieces beneath her Air Jordans. But her presence in kpop is so important because it shows that there’s no right way to be a woman, that womanhood isn’t defined by how you act or how you look.
I’m seeing a lot more tomboys in Korea on the street and I do hear less of, “Why don’t you dress like a girl?” Now a lot of people are accepting towards women’s different styles and characteristics. […]
For me, as the world is more connected, everyone’s definition of beauty… you can’t pinpoint it any more. But when I feel confident I feel sexy, like I’m the coolest thing out there (x)
Amber’s not all about beauty, either. Against the odds, Amber’s made a place for herself in kpop as a symbol of girl power. But she doesn’t strut all over her haters with her confidence, or rap about being the best. She’s struggled. It’s been difficult for her, being an immigrant, being different, being insecure about her weight, being lonely. But she’s still here, and she’s showing her fans, in Korea and around the world, that you can’t be strong all the time, you’re not perfect and that’s okay.
Would’ve drawn way more but then my hand started cramping.

Happy (Belated) International Women’s Day
shout out to all the women that have worked so hard for their kids, who have crossed oceans and borders for them, who have stayed in dangerous position for them or removed them despite the difficulty, who are single or in poverty, who put aside their own aspirations to help their children survive, who work countless hours at workplaces where they don’t get half of the respect they deserve. you are truly inspirational and you deserve to know that.

"I think it’s fascinating though and you’re absolutely right. Whatever way you are, whatever size you present, you will have to as a woman in society justify what you’re eating, what you’re doing…"
"And we shouldn’t have to, yeah."
