Even though he can't see, and John is usually the one to move them around, Arthur technically has primary control over their eyes, and oftentimes, muscle memory (think like rolling his eyes when he's annoyed, etc., etc.) will make him move his eyes unintentionally. The involuntary movement part of it makes John really nauseous/motion sick but he doesn't know how to describe the feeling so he just calls it annoying up until Arthur gets really sick and describes the impending doom and full body illness of feeling like you're about to throw up and John's like "oh so like what happens to me when you move my eyes" and Arthur now feels really guilty about it cause he didn't know it way actually making John sick

Also on the eye vein, while John usually controls the eyes, the eyelids are fully Arthur's area and as he becomes more used to not really thinking about his eyes, he starts to forget that he needs to blink so their eyes are chronically dry. John tries to ignore it until their eyes start watering from how dry they are, and then he yells at Arthur that they need to blink. Sometimes the reminder also comes from other people who think it's weird that Arthur hasn't blinked in an absurdly long time

As much as cutting off part of his pinky in the Dreamlands hurt, John maintains that the worst pain he's ever experienced was the one time that Arthur accidentally hit his left elbow on the corner of his desk and John felt like his whole arm was on fire for like five whole minutes. He will never forgive Arthur for this incident. Every time their left elbow gets even slightly close to another object, he freaks out and tells Arthur to move it. His second-worst pain was that one time Arthur stubbed his toe on a table leg.

John is very sensitive to temperatures, and because of that, when it's cold out, he is very insistent that Arthur wear extra layers on the parts of their body that he feels (left arm & foot). The only hot thing he'll tolerate is hot water when they wash their hands, but even that he's not a big fan of. He will refuse to touch any object that has a temperature that is not equal to room temperature unless there is absolutely no way Arthur can safely handle it with one hand

Because he cannot feel his left foot, Arthur drags/catches that foot significantly more than the right, but he denies this happens until John makes him feel the heels of both shoes, and the left is significantly more worn down than the right

When they are sitting, if the task does not require two hands, Arthur will lean his head on his left hand and let John play with his hair because John likes the texture of it, and Arthur thinks it's soothing for other people to mess with his hair even if it's technically his hand doing it

Arthur writes with the right hand while John writes with the left, and they are fully capable of writing about completely different things simultaneously as long as they aren't talking about one thing or the other. Often, this manifests as Arthur writing notes on the case they're currently working on with one hand while John jots down ideas for his stories with the other, and it looks utterly insane from the outside. They also have vastly different handwriting styles (Athur's is very small, and his letters are pretty cramped together, John's is a lot bigger and has a lot more flair; John does, in fact, complain about having to read Arthur's handwriting on the regular). One time they left some of John's notes sitting out on the desk and Faroe asked about them because it is so obviously not Arthur's writing. He panicked and told her it was accidentally left by a client, so now they have to make sure John's stuff is hidden when she comes over to avoid that conversation again

I’ve been thinking a lot recently about the possibility of John slowly picking up Arthur’s accent from talking to him so often. It starts subtle with him referring to every day objects by their British name rather than the American one just because that’s what Arthur calls them. Then he starts reading more and occasionally asks Arthur for the pronunciation of certain words he doesn’t necessarily recognize written out and keeping the way that Arthur says it. Then he begins writing and similarly finds himself asking how to spell words he’s never seen before and receiving the British spelling because that’s just how Arthur knows them. And it appears more and more until he develops an accent that isn’t quite British but also distinctly is not the one he started out with and he never notices. Arthur picks up on it pretty early but he just doesn’t comment because he thinks it’s kind of cute and he worries if he draws attention to it then John will stop

Parker Yang I fear your ghost is growing on me. His little apology for scaring Arthur. The way he’s clearly excited to be able to talk again and for Arthur to actually want to help him. Him going “ah you’re feedin’ the fuckin’ dog.” I have a bad feeling about his presence but I fear I enjoy having him around for the moment

In honor of pride month I’m relistening to mission mishaps: no complaints because idk what was going on that episode but I can tell you one thing and that’s heterosexual colleagues do not refer to each other as “partner” and get upset when they don’t remember their “special friend day”

actually maxwell has blonde hair but dyed blue, kepler has black or very dark brown hair, and jacobi has definitely curly brown hair, and while we are at it minkowski is very blonde and has a slightly grown out buzz cut, pryce has dark red hair, cutter has black hair, rachel has black hair, eiffel and lovelace both hair curly dark brown hair, and hilbert and hera have no hair hope this helps

Ryland doesn’t talk much about his brother because he doesn’t want to have to explain why they don’t really talk anymore but trust as soon as someone brings out any sort of evidence of his party phase in college Ryland “it’s been a long time since I took a pill from a stranger without knowing what it was” Grace will immediately turn around and whip out the identical twin card. He knows damn well that he’s looking at a photo of himself but he’ll claim it’s Colt until the day he dies Rodrick Heffley style.

There’s a photo that occasionally floats around the internet as some sort of aesthetic party photo and the main subject is most definitely one Ryland Grace but every time someone asks about it he’s adamant that it’s Colt. Ironically, Colt is literally standing in the background of said photo, casually chatting with a beer in his hand and his Miami Vice jacket on. Ryland maintains that this is in fact him and he borrowed the jacket from Colt that night because he was cold (Colt has never once let him wear that jacket and never will). Colt does not find out about this for many many years but when he does he thinks it hilarious.

Just thinking about if they forced Grace into a regular astronaut walkout instead of sedating him and putting him on the ship. Just thinking about people watching a video of the Hail Mary crew headed to their launch and seeing two astronauts smiling and waving to the assembled crowds followed by a third who stares at the concrete as he is ushered along by guards. Just thinking about everyone watching as Dr. Ryland Grace—the only qualified scientist on the entire planet, humanities only hope to save the sun—with a bruise on his cheek and tears in his eyes is guided down the strip by strong hands on his arms. Just thinking about the whole world seeing him scan the crowd just once searching for someone to save him from this, someone who does not appear.

Also just thinking about bureaucrats and diplomats assuring people that the guards were simply there as a precautionary measure, that due to the unique nature of his qualifications they were taking any and all threats to Dr. Grace’s safety with extreme caution. And just thinking about the amount of people who refuse to believe this excuse, who saw the footage and saw his fear and his despair and could do nothing about it because the rocket already launched and he’s gone. And just thinking about the people who remember this when the beetles make their return, who discover that the only man who did not want to be on the mission was the only one to survive the journey and even though he was forced into this fate he didn’t give up on them and he found the answers they needed.
