Days 4-18: I may not have made the time to update the blog, but I made sure to make time to exercise (for the most part anyway).
Days 4 through 9 were great! I met my 10k steps goal each day (some days exceeding steps) and even got down to 217.8 lbs. I was consistent, dedicated, thought before I ate - and then Days 10-14 happened. I barely exercised these days.
Day 10: Movie Night, aka munchies night. I commend anyone who is able to make it through a movie without snacking on SOMETHING unhealthy. Since I’m writing this after the fact I totally don’t remember what I snacked on, but I remember telling myself to “chill on snacking tomorrow because I almost overdid it tonight.”
Day 11: #SnackingFail. You know how veggie chips are supposed to be “45% healthier” than regular chips? I’m pretty sure that renders pointless if you finish the whole frickin bag which is exactly what I did on the drive up to and back from my sister’s graduation (approx 2 hours away - 4 hours round trip ), lol. In my defense, I hadn’t eaten breakfast. There’s also something about long drives that make you want to snack, am I right? Well, while I was in Rome, so to speak, I pretty much went all out at her celebratory dinner which took place at an all-you-can-eat Brazilian Steakhouse. I denied nothing except chicken skewers wrapped in bacon and chicken hearts because, well there’s something creepy about eating organs. I’ll save the vegetarian debate for a future post because I’ve actually been considering vegetarianism for a while now (more for health reasons as opposed to moral reasons).
Day 12: Father’s Day BBQ. Meat and Oreo overload! Sigh. Eating in social situations is a huge weakness. I can’t pinpoint why I can’t control myself exactly. I mean I could if I wanted to be miserable I guess, but when there are a lot of people around who are also snacking you kind of just do the same. Since we were at the beach I tried walking on the boardwalk, but my ankle started hurting and at that point food coma was hitting me pretty hard. I felt pretty crappy and promised myself I’d do better the next day.
Day 13: Broken promises are sort of my MO. No point in lying about it. It’s pretty much downhill from here. I snacked on an unhealthy amount of left over chips and salsa and didn’t get a chance to exercise. I weighed myself and the scale read 223 lbs. A pretty big blow considering I had gotten down to 217.8lbs. At this point I’m in my F it mood.
Day 14: Same story different day. So disappointed in myself because I was so motivated the first week!! I’m bummed I gained weight and you’d think I’d try to rectify the situation but I don’t. I just snacked more and hated myself for it.
Day 15: I woke up determined not to fall into my old ways. I actually had a super intense workout on the hill that left my legs crazy sore. I felt good about myself, proud that I was able to carry Elyas while climbing the steps and hiking the hill. My food was great too - salmon salad and veggie smoothie for lunch and eggplant potato casserole for dinner.
Day 16: Polar opposite of Day 15. I had brunch with a friend and left feeling really depressed. It had nothing to do with her, but for some reason I was extra annoyed with myself for not being myself. What I mean by that is I have a very hard time getting close/warming up to people and I’ve been trying to work on that because I REALLY hate that about myself. I’m a superficial, surface level, small talk type friend until I’ve warmed up to you (can take a few months or even years) and despite my wanting to jump all in, something holds me back. It’s depressing because it’s involuntary and prevents me from getting close to people I’m dying to get close to. Anyway, that experience dampened my mood for the rest of the day and I basically pigged out on Jamba and lord knows what else. Day 16 was a blur because I cried so much. My hubz forced me to do bleachers that night because he said I’d feel better after and he was right. Sigh. He’s so amazing.
Day 17: Once I’ve had a few bad days, it’s hard to break the habit. I didn’t exercise or eat healthy today. I ran errands all day and danced while cooking dinner for hubz weekend trip with his friends. I’m scared to look at the scale. Again you’d think I’d snap out of it but I end up snacking more. Why is this so hard for me?
Day 18: Recipe for laziness = humid weather. Didn’t feel like doing anything today. My goals are getting farther away and I only have myself to blame. I have to do better tomorrow.
