the reason why people hate on kpop and laugh at the fans is not because they think the music is bad or anything even remotely rational or objective. the real reason is that kpop is mostly targeted at and consumed by teenage girls. and people have never been able to let teenage girls just enjoy things, these things get a bad rep, you get shamed if you do enjoy these things and hating on them is cool. just think of different ya franchises. the primary reason for people hating on twilight and hunger games and stuff is exactly the same, it’s not any toxic messages that might be in those books/movies (don’t get me wrong, twilight for example is deeply toxic but again that’s not the reason it got so much virulent hate). and that’s just misogyny at play because things that are targeted at teenage boys don’t get the same treatment. think of all the superhero stuff and many other things. we don’t even think of these things as teenage boy things but they were at first, it’s just that it’s not frowned upon if you like them like it is if you’re into teenage girl things. and that’s just tea.
