This is the year for new friends
Because what good is it to keep people around even if they have been around for years if you always get the short end of the stick when it comes to the friendship?
I want friends who want Vegas on New Years and Christmas in San Francisco. I want friends who want to go on the wine train with me on my 24th birthday and music festivals and concerts in the summer. I want friends who want to drive up to Seattle and fly to Miami and North Carolina to explore because why the fuck not? I want friends who will sit on rooftops with me. I want friends who will actually listen to what I have to say and not point out that I talk a lot or bring up who I was in the past.
I’m more than just the “let’s catch up so I can tell you about my last few adventures” friend, I’m the friend you take the adventures with, and I’m getting really tired of letting these people who are supposed to know me walk all over me and make me feel like the first friend, that friend you only talk to when shit goes wrong or when the fun is over. The friend you take to coffee and sit with for a few hours and then forget about as soon as the next adventure begins.
I say, if an opportunity presents itself for something fun and you can take one other person and I’m not the first person that comes to mind, then go ahead and have fun but don’t ask me to “hang out” and catch up to hear about it after.
I’m tired of being the person I never intended to be to these people who were supposed to have my back and be there when I needed them.
2016: New year, new friends, and fuck you if you think we should catch up over coffee some time, I’ll be busy.
