All that said, you don't have to share my exact tastes for us to follow each other. I like some things you hate, you hate some things I like, I get it. You can have strong opinions and critiques that don’t line up with mine. You can take a series seriously, casually, or somewhere in between. The most important thing is to be respectful in disagreement.
All I ask is that you tag things appropriately. If you don't tag your ships, I may have to unfollow (I'm not kidding about hating the things you like, I dislike a LOT of popular ships lol).

I view most of the Sonic cast as older teens/young adults due to the removal of ages from the Sonic Channel bios, the voice changes in Frontiers, and the Restoration's paramilitary nature. This is reflected in some of my fanworks, particularly my selfship with Surge. It’s fine if you prefer the ages from the old manuals, but I’m not interested in debating about it.
Sharing and non-sharing selfshippers are equally valid. Sharing ≠ doesn't care about relationship. Nonsharing ≠ harasses others. If I see you dunking on others for sharing status, I'm likely to block.
Shipcourse labels have become too broad to be useful to me. Fiction can influence and reflect people, but not necessarily in a one-to-one way. Critiquing problematic tropes is not automatically censorship. I avoid assuming people’s morality from their ships, and I don’t believe in harassment. When something makes me genuinely uncomfortable, I block liberally and quietly.
I also block people for reasons unrelated to any of these, at my own discretion.

A little late, but I just wanna say these words from yesterday's tag game were nice to hear, @surge-my-beloved who chose to tag themselves from my reblog^^ I'm still somewhat under the impression that Frontiers is the fandom's darling and therefore any fic aiming to retcon or fix it's flawed narrative is blasphemy, and therefore 'deserve' to be shunned.
It's probably why I'm kinda used to not getting much attention for my other works. And most days I rather prefer it. Especially if it's before I spot a typo or something similarly trivial.
I'm glad you're enjoying LbtL somehow despite it's abundant canon/oc shipping. I'm really trying to not make it My Thing, as too much of something can get stale. Which is why my current WIP involves a more platonic relationship between a canon male and oc female, but hopefully written in a way that makes you almost want/see them get together later in their lives or when they're ready for it.
I always worry about coming off as cringy and overbearing, so I'm glad my words touched you.
I mainly like Sonic Frontiers because it was the first Sonic game I ever played. I think my favorite thing about it is the combat and boss battles (particularly the array of attacks/combos you could use, as a fan whose previous expwerience was mainly hack and slash games.). I've come to have mixed feelings about the repetitive nature of its story, and Amy's characterization in particular.
One thing I have noticed on my replays, is that it doesn't really reward exploration in the same way that other open world games do. Like, in Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (a game it was very obviously inspired by), there are tons of little side quests, diverse trinkets, and journals you can come across.
But in Frontiers, it's mostly just objects like medals and songs to collect. It feels more about the destinations than the journey. The only thing really like journals are the Egg Logs, are congregated in a single lake. I think that if a fic were to make that huge open world feel less "empty", I'd be in full support of that.
I was actually talking to my sister about canon fix-its the other day. Personally, my limit with what I'm willing to rewrite is whether I overall like the things at the heart of the story. Like, I'd be interested in rewriting 06 or Forces, but you couldn't pay me to rewrite Prime.
It used to upset me when others disliked something I liked, but sometimes non-fans can notice things that fans don't. One of my favorite Elise fics was written by someone who dipped and never wrote about her again.
I was looking through your other works after reading that Sonic and the Black Knight ficlet, and I actually started reading LbtL specifically because it was OC x canon. I love that category, even before I became interested in writing it as a means of shipping myself with a character.
I've been interested in seeing how others fit original characters into Sonic, but I see so many works centered on only relationships with two anthro characters. As opposed to anthro x human(oid?), which is what I'd be aiming for.
I love how aggressively early 2000s (more laid-back) your take on Sonic is. My memory is a little fragmented, because I listened to part of the fic on a commute, but I remember there was one part where Sonic had a blasé attitude about how often things had tried to kill him, and I was thinking yep, that's him! I also could relate a lot to Katie's struggles. Well, maybe not the cursed with beauty bit, but the other parts, lol.

Before I had seen the Japanese translation of her boss race event in the Sonic Speed Simulator, I had thought that Surge might go by 僕 in any offical translations of English media, if only to reduce gender confusion from overseas audiences (I had read a few years back that girls practically never use オレ. And Surge already dresses in a more androgynous way.)
But I honestly think that what they picked fits her really well. From what I read on the wiki, she was inspired by Japanese gangsters/delinquents. She wouldn’t care less whether the pronoun she used was socially acceptable or not. She'd care more about self-aggrandizing.
I’d like to add on that in at least one of her lines, she takes it a step further, and refers to herself as オレ様. Basically the same pronoun Silver uses, but with an honorific added.
Now, I’m just a beginner in Japanese, but I know it’s commonly used for highly arrogant characters, especially villains.
The meaning of ore-sama 俺様: a word like ore 俺, "I," "me," that's mostly used by pompous male manga characters.
Though I haven't played the event myself, from what I can tell, it's about her while trying to save a city from a power outage, but inadvertently wreaking more mayhem as the player tries to stop her. She genuinely is trying to help, even if it is for selfish reasons. And the idea of her talking like an anime supervillain while trying to be a hero is just so perfectly her.
I really hope that, regardless of what they change in future translations (or any media they may write originally in Japanese), they keep this set of pronouns for her.
And I appreciate the comparison to Silver. I wish more people remembered his punkish attitude from the older games.

Oh no, I'm not upset! If anything, I appreciate you telling me. I had assumed that turning reblogs off would also prevent my post from showing up in public tags.
Mostly I wanted to avoid anyone trying to argue with me for liking Infinite. Apparently a lot of fans who like Surge also hate Infinite for some reason (at least on Twitter, not as sure about here). All the same, I didn't want a fight when I just got here.

Every time I search Amazon for Surge merch, and "Surge the Tenrec plush" appears at the top of the recommendations, I have false hope that they released one.
Whyyyyyy doesn't Great Eastern release a Surge plush? It can't possibly be because she's too obscure, because they made plushes of characters like Mimic, and even widely disliked characters like Zazz.
She probably has the most fans out of all the IDW original characters, it would definitely sell.

I unironically love Infinite as a character (talk to the wall), but I would NOT want him staring at me as I sleep. I think that if I hugged him and even temporarily pretended he was Surge, he would want to murder me. Lol

*In my headcanon, while Eggman was giving Infinite his cybernetic modifications, brainwashed him to hate Sonic instead of Shadow, to make things more convenient for his plans. This is why he never goes after Shadow in the main game, in spite of a grudge against him being more well-founded.
