It’s Reggae Month!!

Memories of my Dad and I going to Mr. Herman Chin Loy’s record shop to buy records and Tastees, location Halfway Tree. The records were for my dad’s record and book store and Tastee’s Patty was for me.

Aquarius Records, a Jamaican label founded in 1969 by Herman Chin-Loy.

In the mid-1970s, Mr. Chin-Loy opened the Aquarius Recording Studio, the first

24-track studio in the Caribbean. It became a hub for legendary recordings, including Bunny Wailer’s seminal album Blackheart Man.

He is best known for his productions from the late 1960s and early 1970s of artists such as Augustus Pablo, Alton Ellis and Bruce Ruffin, and for the Aquarius and Scorpio record labels that he ran. Later he worked with Beres Hammond during his Zapp Pow years, before Beres became the icon the world knows today.

Mr Chin Loy helped to shape the foundations of reggae and dub with his release of Aquarius dub.

I can’t find it on IGs music list or Alton Ellis’s, Official Daughter, so I will just play Alton Ellis’s , Just A Dub.
