“It has been said that a girl grows up to choose a man who bears a striking resemblance to her father or one who is nothing like him. Both choices are at the core, reactions.” Alicia Keys
Neither Craig nor my beloved mom is responsible for where I go from here. I am. The price of admission for self-ownership is total responsibility. And I can move forward only if I'm willing to keep asking myself the hard questions and examining my beliefs.

Our uniqueness isn't a scar, but a beauty mark

When we dim our light, we don't do anyone a favor. It's a disservice. Because when you're in the presence of someone who knows his or her worth, like the extraordinary Maya did, you want to shine brighter. Self-honoring energy is contagious.

The path to self-discovery is not a straight line. It's a zigzag. We move in and out of awareness: one step forward, three steps to the left, a baby step back, another leap forward. Every day, I have to intentionally maintain an awareness of my value. I know I'm worthy.

Alicia Keys shares the heartbreaking letter she wrote to her absentee dad when she was a teenager Alicia Keys took to Instagram to share a letter she wrote to her absentee dad when she was a teenager. In the letter written in 1994, the singer poured out her heart to her father. She told him she was tired of being stood up by him, tired of waiting for him to show up in her life, and that she didn't want to see him anymore. She said that in spite of the letter, she hoped he would fight to be in her life, but he never replied her letter. Sharing a video of her reading the letter, she wrote: I’ve been waiting for the right moment to share this excerpt with you from #MoreMyself... ? ? In the early part of my teens I wrote this letter to my father, Craig. I wanted nothing to do with him. My words came from a place of vulnerability and longing. At the time it hurt so much to experience what felt like empty promises. I swore I didn’t care, but I did and it affected me deeply. I finally had enough and wrote those words. It’s CRAZY that he kept this letter after all these years. I was so shocked when he first showed me. It was tucked away in a shoe box full of memories. I’m glad he and I can look back at it now as a sign of how far we’ve come ? If you feel moved to share, send me a deep relationship that you have had to remove from your life, or one that has been mended, or that you want to see evolve, or are working on changing. … .
