Change is inevitable. Grace is a choice. All women go through cycles in life. Maiden, Mother, Crone. What a horrible word…crone. Dictionary.com defines crone as a withered, witchlike old woman. Wiccans use a triple moon goddess to describe the cycle of womanhood. That would make the last stage the Elder Goddess- so much better.
When your skin starts to get dry and loose, hot flashes hit hard and you feel a general soreness throughout your body; the last thing you need is to have someone refer to you as a crone.
Whatever you call it, make no mistake, these changes are coming. How to accept these changes gracefully, minimizing the impact on our psyche and self-worth? Here are a few ideas to help you get prepared for whatever this day throws at you:
When you least expect it, you will feel on fire. And then you will feel cold. Dress in removable layers all the time.
Always carry: water, chocolate, a general moisturizing balm and pads (at least panty liners). At some random point, at least three times a week, you will feel dehydrated, cranky, hungry, or emotional to the extreme or….you might cough. And leak.
Do your best to eat clean, unprocessed, whole foods. Don’t starve yourself or cut out all of your favorites. Just make them as unprocessed as possible because clean, whole foods provide healthy fats, are hormone balancing and nutrient dense.
Try supplements: Black Cohosh for better sleep and relief from hot flashes and night sweats. St. John’s Wort to help stabilize anxiety and/or depression. Maca Root, which is an adaptogen herb that helps with the overall effects of aging – energy, libido, skin, etc.
Try essential oils: Clary Sage and Thyme both are excellent for balancing hormones.
With a little natural help, we can evolve gracefully.
