I know the man was much more than the movie, and I won’t pretend to have known the man, but I will never forget walking into that theatre with my whole family and crying at the love letter him and everybody involved wrote to us.

They gave us tools to love what we were all taught was unlovable and fight with weapons we were all taught were dull, and for that, for everyone involved in that project I will always have nothing but love, respect, admiration and the will to see them do well in everything they do.

To know he did that and so much more while fighting cancer by himself, that he was there until the end making art that uplifts black people both cuts deep and inspires.

You were a giant Chadwick, and whatever next stage you find yourself in, I hope it treats you as such. Rest in power my friend, but I hope you find the peace this world won’t always afford us.
