I love how Fi pauses here as she tries to express her distaste for the Clown In The Sky⢠as neutrally as possible⌠âcause it also shows that sheâs not a purely emotionless robot. She has feelings and thoughts of her own, sheâs just extremely calculated and dedicated to her job.
I like Fi ;u;

Tortus looked between the doctor and his wife. A slow smile appearing on his face as his hands rubbed together.Â
âI ate enough.â He answered. It wasnât a complete lie. He had eaten, just not anything that day. He would have eaten supper like he normally did with his wife. At least, if they felt like eating and not going straight to bed. That happened occasionally. Skipping lunch wasnât unusual, and he normally didnât eat breakfast in the morning. Supper was the make up meal when he was alone. Making enough to feel justified skipping meals, but lately, he hadnât been. He just made enough to stop his groaning stomach and feed his wife.Â
The doctor raised an eyebrow, clearly suspicious, but Fi beat her to the punch.  âEnough of what?â she asked, managing to scoot back into her husbandâs line of sight so she could try to read his expression. Her own was an open book - she was worried about her husbandâs health and horrified that she hadnât noticed something was wrong earlier. It was clear from his answer that he hadnât been eating enough no matter what he said.
Fiâs reaction seemed to have gotten the doctor to reevaluate her - or at least set her suspicions aside for the moment.

Well, that explained a few things. Though still not comfortable with her in his space, he sat still so she could do her job. Tortus cleaned his face of possible drool and straightened out his hair the best that he could. When he wasnât fiddling with his hands, he was nervously preening himself. he would have to explain what happened in front of Fi. It embarrassed him to do so, but he wasnât about to ask his wife to leave. Especially since she looked so concerned.Â
âYes, I do. I was working at the shop. I was feeling restless and decided to take a walk around town. I entered the bar for a few drinks. I was still on my first glass when Isamu walked in. I suppose he was that guard you mentioned⌠After that, we spoke for a bit. I stood up to leave and⌠thatâs it.â With a few things excluded, that was the nutshell of events.
âNothing strange about the drink? It didnât taste off or make you feel more affected than you usually would after just one?â the doctor asked with a frown, âWhat have you had to eat today?â

Tortus was barely comprehending much at the time. Having just woke up, and already feeling dizzy still. He was going to answer his wife with âFi, Iâm fine.â But only got out part of it before the doctor nudged her way into his personal space. He had just woken up without knowing fully where he was. There were attempts to lean away from the strange older woman as he got his bearings in place.
âPardon, but⌠Who are you?â
âIâm the doctor your guard friend carried you to when you passed out. Youâve been here about an hour. Can you remember what happened?â the doctor asked, her mood less snippy now that she was dealing with a patient. She still seemed intent on staying between Tortus and his wife.

Isamu knew when he wasnât wanted. Though part of him wanted to stay just to spite this old woman, he figured it was best that he leave. There wasnât much more he could do anyway âand it wasnât like they were close.Â
âI should be going then. A solider isnât much use here. If you could send me a report copy if anything suspicious comes up, I would greatly appreciate it, Doctor. And Mrs. Aarden, take care. Iâm sure heâll wake up soon. Manâs got a stubborn soul.â He gave a polite nod to both and a small smile flashed. If someone had said something after, it didnât seem to be acknowledged. Isamu stepped off into the evening.
An hour or so passes before there are any signs of stirring. Difficult to tell by anyone but his closest that his eyes are actually open. His head turned about, eyebrows creasing. He sat up slowly, rubbing his blurry eyes.Â
ââŚHow didâŚâ His quiet statement unfinished as he just scans the room.
Fi spent the time sitting by his bedside, stubbornly ignoring the doctorâs less than subtle attempts to keep her under surveillance the entire time. When he finally stirred she was quick to support him.
âDonât move too quickly. You passed out,â she told him, worried that sitting up so suddenly might make Tortus lose consciousness again. The doctor was quick to prop him up with pillows, nudging his wife out of the way in the process.
âCan you tell me what you remember?â she asked, waving Fi off when she tried to help and moving on to examining Tortus without acknowledging the other woman any further.

âYouâre a monster.â
âI must say, of all the people I put behind bars, youâve got to be the worst.â
âI donât want to play your sick mind games, Iâm not one of your victims!â
âYou canât control me like you can your little puppets, can you?â
âUgh, I feel bad for whoever has to sort all this mess out.â
âIâm justâŚtired. Iâm tired of everyoneâs lives lying on my shoulders.â
âWhy canât these people just learn to take care of themselves?â

âWhatâs the matter, are you afraid of me? Good.â
âI have to say, you are giving me quite a bit of trouble.â
âYouâre about to piss me off, brat.â
âCome on, you can get out of that, canât you? At least try.â
âGo on, at least put on a show if youâre going to challenge me.â
âThe last guy didnât end up so well, if youâve heard. I admire your bravery.â
âAs much as I appreciate tenacity, I donât appreciate annoying flies interrupting my plans.â
âNow that Iâve got you, what should I do first?â
âRelax, kiddo. Not everyoneâs out here for mass murder or world domination. Maybe I just wanted to take this car for a joy ride.â
âWhy do you always have to ruin my fun?â
âWhy did I turn bad? Why do heroes ask such inane questions?â
âYou donât need to understand me, I donât WANT you to understand me!â
âNot everyone can be pulled into the light, hero.â

âIâve arrested him on a few occasions. Heâs got a short fuse on him thatâs lit at random. Just so happened he also liked the bar I frequent. he became my sort of drinking buddy.â Isamu felt his thoughts were more right the farther this went on. Though, adding anything to the contrary would only make things seem more suspicious. Even if he had just met Fi, he wasnât about to drag her down that rabbit hole if he could avoid it. Even still, it made his blood boil slightly.Â
âRight.â Clearly the doctor still thought something was up.  âIt doesnât seem as though thereâs anything to cause this fainting spell, but once he wakes up Iâll be able to ask him a few more questions.â
Fi frowned. That sounded like a dismissal, but she wasnât about to just leave her husband in a strange building with nobody but a doctor she didnât know. She hadnât quite caught on to the exact train of the doctorâs thoughts yet.

Isamu noticed the pointed look aimed at them. At first, he just thought it was odd, though the question slowly made him wonder if rusty hatchets ever stayed buried. Instead of tossing away any possible accusation, he took in a breath and nodded. âShe just showed up at the bar. I can only assume to look for him.â The soldier motioned his head toward Tortus to make a point.
âI was worried when he did not come home after I returned from rehearsal,â Fi said honestly, âI was hoping that he had just gone out for a drink when I saw all the shops were closed...â
âMm-hmm. And how do you know this man?â the doctor asked Isamu. She was reasonably certain that if they had done anything it hadnât worked as planned - her patient would be fine with rest and time to recover... but he wouldnât get either if his wife was plotting to kill him to get out of an unhappy marriage.
