Monsters and Mysteries: A Gravity Falls finale countdown
Scary-oke + Into the Bunker
reblog this if on april fool’s, you’re accepting ic ‘pranks’ in your ask box. put ketchup in my muse’s drink, tie their shoelaces together, go wild. go crazy. have fun dealing with the consequences.
mystcriiious:
It wasn’t that Mabel didn’t seem to see the hypocrisy in her suggestion – she acknowledged it, assessed it, and seemed to come to the conclusion that she simply didn’t care. Which, going by track record, was consistently and irrefutably Mabel. You had to admire the girl’s tenacity, he supposed with a small smile – but at least she seemed willing to let sleeping dogs lie for the moment.
…There may have been a girl he was currently mulling over – but being uncertain about how he even truly felt at this point, he wasn’t even close to being ready to discuss it with Mabel. Particularly because Mabel tended to make these matters …difficult. More difficult than they already were for him. Besides, considering who it was, there was no telling how Mabel was really going to react – so he was more than content to throw himself full throttle into his mystery-solving instead, at least for now.
So, relieved that he’d dodged that particular bullet for the time being, he practically scrambled toward her side of the couch in his enthusiasm, spreading his journal out so that the face of the book rested over his lap, while the back sprawled out across hers.
❝ – ok. So I’ve been digging up some dirt on this old shack the author of the journal’s logged out. It says it’s ripe with paranormal phenomenon – screams and groans coming from the mountain, floating orbs of light even though there’s no electricity up there.
I think I may have narrowed down its location within about a two mile radius. I’m dying to head up there and do a little investigating. ❞
“Oooh!”
Consider her suitably derailed. Mabel wasn’t sure what she’d been expecting - knowing the Journal, it could have been just about anything - but she’d been sort of prepared for it to be something reasonably dull, that only Dipper could be interested in. She certainly hadn’t expected the topic to be genuine ghost-hunting stuff.
Her interest was absolutely piqued. The girl clutched her face with both hands, grinning from one slightly chubby cheek to the other.
“It’s gotta be a ghost, right? Do you think it’ll be friendly, and will accompany us on animated PG-rated fantasy adventures, like in that one movie?”
What movie? She couldn’t rightly remember the details, other than that it existed and she’d watched it a lot as a young kid - before the Dream Boyz High series had basically taken over her life. In any case, though, it was that kind of idea that was firmly lodged in Mabel’s mind, so far as ghosts went.
‘Cause, you know… ghosts being dangerous? She highly doubted that would be the case.
Dipper couldn’t help the amused if not slightly condescending expression that seized his features as he closed the book and slipped it back into his backpack with a subtle shake of his head.
❝ – not everything is like the movies, Mabel. But I take it that means you’ll come with me? Mystery Twins? ❞
He offered up his fist to hers for a bump, enthused that his sister would once again join him as a team and have his back -- especially considering his last bout with a ghost hadn’t exactly panned out in his favor. Dipper was a lot of things, but he certainly wasn’t stubborn enough to refuse to admit when he needed backup.
She huffs, of course she doesn’t like waiting. Who would?! But she doesn’t say anything, choosing instead to fold her arms over her chest and slump against the back of her seat in angry silence. It wasn’t until the Shack came into view did she realize why the area was so familiar. She wanted to smack herself in the face, of course he’d bring her to the Shack for night mini-golfing. It was exactly his style.
When she sees the course (and a bit later, when she realizes how much work must’ve gone into it), she’s taken aback, and a little breathless. It’s not fancy, not even close to as nice as the one they’d broken into not-too-many summers ago, bur the Christmas lights and the dark night and the poorly-constructed windmill just gave her this…weightless feeling. Like this was what being a teenager was supposed to be about. Like there was no other place in the world she’d rather be right now. Dipper beside her, and a challenge ahead of her, and her parents far behind. Even if this would be considered a literal thing, she can’t help but feel that this was how it would be for a long time. And the thought of Dipper being beside her for so long puts more butterflies in her gut.
She grabs her putter, giving it a little twirl, and smirks at the course before her, “Get ready to have your ass handed to you Pines. I only play to win, you know.”
In spite of her vehement attempts to appear otherwise, Dipper can tell just how thrilled she is -- not just by the haphazardly constructed set up, but by the adventure of sneaking out under her parents’ noses and the rush of adrenaline that was synonymous with the rebellion so often associated with teenage years. She’s smiling again, unlike the somber expression she’d shown him when she’d first come to her window an hour ago, and he finds it’s significantly more pleasing on her fair features. Plucking a short club from the bag on the back of his golf cart, he twirled it around in a fashion meant to mock her own skillful spin of her putter ( though it should be stated that he performs the turn with far less grace and ease ), as if to demonstrate to her that any perceived intimidation was entirely non-existent.
❝ – oh yeah? Then what do you say we up the stakes, Put-Put Princess? How about a little wager? ~ ❞
His smile is so bright it vibrates to her, and she can hear his heartbeat quicken, which meant his head was going off on one of it’s tangents.
She attempts a one-shouldered shrug, then lets out a laugh. “Okay. I faced my parents and pulled a stupid lever. Do you know how many other crazy adventures you had without me? You beat Mabel’s bubble. You defeated Bill Cipher, you believed I was better than my parents. The only reason I could pull that lever, with you petrified or not, was because you believed in me.”
He’s never really been comfortable taking credit for things -- in spite of how badly he wanted to be popular and accepted and generally considered cool... sometimes his own inert modesty simply didn’t allow for such things, particularly with his unusual taste in most things. Maybe his own shyness was a reflection of his sister’s boisterous and outgoing nature -- who knows. But all things considered, it was understandable that hearing her declare that he had inspired her to be a better person ...well, it more or less unraveled him a bit. He felt a telltale heat begin to boil in his cheeks, and he coughed to clear his throat, which in turn made her head bounce a little on his chest as he rubbed the back of his head in a characteristically nervous fashion.
❝ – hey, I couldn’t have done any of that stuff all on my own. And you helped us defeat Bill, in case you forgot. But ...I guess sometimes it’s easier to believe in yourself when someone else does first. And ...well ...I’m glad I got to know you. ...You’re not actually all that bad, Pacifica. ❞
[ forgot the email for this blog forever ago. finally remembered it so ...heya. ]

“Ugh!” If she didn’t protest, he’d know and honestly if he already didn’t she’d like to keep it that way. She can feel confidence in his tone, though, and for some reason it sounds…unnatural, in his voice. But she liked it all the same. Confidence was good in a boy like Dipper Pines.
“I don’t like surprises.” The truth was she was just anxious to find out what his plan is. Him and his stupid mysteries sometimes!
❝ – it sounds like you just don’t like waiting. ❞
He ventured with no small amount of obvious amusement in his tone ; though he supposed that much would make sense. With a family as wealthy and privileged as hers, it was likely that Pacifica had never really wanted for anything material in her short life -- let alone had to wait for it. Taking a sharp right, the golf cart burst forth from the tree line and out into the copse where the Mystery Shack stood nestled in the woods.
❝ – luckily, you don’t have to. It’s just around back. ❞
Steering the cart around the rickety old hovel he fondly called his home away from home, the clearing behind the shack was revealed to her -- a makeshift mini-golf course, composed entirely of the strange commodities one might expect to find at a sideshow attraction in the deep of the Oregon woods. The course’s path was lined with old Christmas lights that had been stuffed in the attic until December rolled around, and the obstacles included ( but were not limited to ) a mini-windmill made from what looked like an old traffic cone and a what had probably been a broken desk fan that morning, a water trap in the form of a kiddo pool that Mabel used to give her pet pig baths on particularly warm summer days, and a little bridge Dipper had constructed himself out of logs intended for bonfires that had gotten left out in the rain and were therefore too wet to burn.
She stifles a laugh as he avoids looking at her. It’s not like she’d tried to embarrass him that much. But if she could take it however she wanted… “So it isn’t a date then?” Okay, further baiting. But she wasn’t going to be the first one to own up to this thing that had been passing between them.
She’s grateful for the tactful way he pulls out of the gate, doing his best to keep their departure quiet. Though she has no doubt her mother is fast asleep while her father is up plotting or something, that doesn’t mean one of the staff hadn’t heard. And if it was one of their newer recruits, they’d be desperate to prove themselves. She has to laugh again, the Lilliputtians had been a nuisance (and almost tried to kill you) but that had all seemed so long ago now. “So, is this one of your many mysteries or do I get to know where we’re going?”
Nope -- no way. He wasn’t going to fall for that old trick. In fact, the harder she pressed him like a panini, he actually managed to summon an ounce of what could almost have been mistaken as confidence, turning the wheel hand over hand as he threw her a smarmy smile.
❝ – y’know, the more you ask, the more it seems like you really want it to be one ~ -- and there’s nothing wrong with a good mystery, in my opinion. ❞
coughsupgliiitter:
“Well yeah, but that’s when you’ve got your sites set on a girl, then you gotta be normal and let things happen. But if you just let feelings run every which way on their own, you could end up with anyone; you should at least figure out what you’re looking for in a partner. Like, I, for example, look for guys who are…”
She paused. Considered. Considered some more.
“Well, just guys is a good start, honestly. I figure out the specifics as I go.”
So much for that point, she supposed. This was totally going to become a do as I say, not as I do session, wasn’t it?
She was okay with that.
Dipper was still insisting he had other priorities, however, so Mabel allowed herself to be derailed for a moment. She hadn’t forgotten her plan here, not by a long shot, and she would proceed to bring it up whenever Dipper least expected it until he got so fed up he just had to say yes–
But for now? If something was up, then yeah, she wanted in on it.
“Mystery Twins, yeah! What are we after this time?”
Dipper sounded, at least, like he had something specific in mind. Otherwise, Mabel wouldn’t have set aside her topic anywhere near so easily.
It wasn’t that Mabel didn’t seem to see the hypocrisy in her suggestion -- she acknowledged it, assessed it, and seemed to come to the conclusion that she simply didn’t care. Which, going by track record, was consistently and irrefutably Mabel. Laying there, head on his chest, his heartbeat thundering in her ear, everything felt right. Like this was destiny somehow. She isn’t sure she likes the thought. That the universe knew and controlled her entire life. She didn’t want that. She didn’t want a predetermined plan. She wanted to plot her own course. Her fingers grazing just over his heart, the thundering in her ear, slowly drowns out these angry thoughts that raise her ire and quicken her pulse. Him being there quiets her racing thoughts.
Maybe this was a little slice of that destiny that she could accept. For now, Just until Dipper decided she wasn’t worth all the trouble and got sick of her sad little mean rich girl routine. Just until he started peeling back enough layers to realize she could be as bad as she seemed. Just until he realized she didn’t deserve him.
“If you think the spaceship was your biggest accomplishment that summer, then maybe I’m right to doubt you just a bit.” Because he’d done so much more than the stupid spaceship. He’d saved the world, saved her, and that was a Dipper Pines she could have faith in.
His smile was shy in response to her undisguised praise ; well. He supposed he had saved the world, along with the help of quite literally the entire town of course. But heroes didn’t brag about things like that -- not that he considered himself a hero, really. No more than anyone else who’d stepped up to the plate to help, that is. In his own opinion, he was just far too stubborn to leave well enough alone when it came to mysteries and cryptic puzzles ; and that could be a double-edged sword sometimes. But he supposed in this instance, it had worked out for the best.
❝ – Heh ...well, hey. Everyone helped save the town. Even you. I mean, you took on a category ten ghost. I’d never even seen one before that night. I was petrified -- literally. Like, I got turned into a tree -- but you saved the whole town single-handedly. That’s way more impressive, if you ask me. ❞
priincess-pacifica:
His face is red, and she has to fight off more giggles. He was such a dork! “So, it’s not a date?” She raises her brows at him, no malice in her gaze whatsoever.
She can still see the panic etched in his features as she slides in next to him, eyebrows still quirked at him, and a smirk following suit. “Well, jailbreak or liberation…thanks.” The smirks turns to a smile, and she rests back against the seat of the golf cart as he drives off. “So, we breaking in this time or did you have something else in mind?”
She’s totally baiting him ; he can see it in the innocent way she bats her perfectly curled eyelashes at him with the innocuous question. His face doesn’t lose a single ounce of its mortified hue as he abruptly turns away from her with a breathless, nerve-riddled laugh, redirecting his gaze to the road, the trees, the wheel -- literally anywhere but her would do just fine.
❝ – Gah, well -- I, um ...t-take it as you want. ❞
He surmised as he turned out of her gate as quietly as he could in hopes to not alert her parents of his presence, or her unapproved departure -- did she want this to be a date? The very notion made his palms feel uncomfortably sweaty against the wheel, and he raptly sought to change the subject to save himself any further humiliation.
❝ Well, considering the Lil’Putians would probably try to kill us if we ever showed our faces there again -- I’ve got another place in mind. ❞
priincess-pacifica:
She gives an undignified snort when he calls himself wild. She’d never known him to be anything of the kind. But this. Everything that was tumbling around -in her head, in her stomach, in her heart- it was unpredictable, wild, even. Dipper Pines had taken her by surprise a few times since she’d gotten to know him. This was one of his nicest surprises ever.
She moves herself closer to him, slowly moving her head to rest on top of his shoulder, his fingers are sweaty, like she knew they’d be, but she can’t help but want a closeness with him. Hoe had her best friend stolen her heart so easily, so imperceptibly, that she didn’t even know it until he held it in his hands. She stares up and all those stars, the falling ones, the ones that were stuck in the sky. Shooting stars burned so bright but fell so fast. But that one, the North Star of all things, burned the brightest, and stayed exactly where is always had. She wonders if it means something. If Dipper’s birthmark, and the star, and everything between them now, were almost…connected. “I don’t think it would kill you to hold a girl, now would it Dipper?” Truthfully, she had shivers rolling down her spine, and she knows it has nothing to do with the nighttime.
The warm and sudden weight of her head nestling in the crook of his shoulder sent a jolt of electricity ricocheting down his spine, but he tried his best to swallow it down as he diverted his gaze back up toward the meteor shower. The awed chorus of his sister, her friends and their great uncle just a few yards off echoed beneath the overwhelming slam of his heartbeat up against his rib cage, and he could only pray that she couldn’t hear it hammering in his chest as she laid there, her fingertips grazing just over it.
It still felt somewhat ...surreal. That a girl with the class and caliber and money she had could ever be even half interested in a social outcast like himself -- with his plaid flannel shirts and predilection with the strange and supernatural. Not to mention his taste in music. But here she was, insistent on giving him a good ribbing even as she settled into his arms. Hesitantly, he smiled up at the sky and wrapped the arm pinned beneath her around her shoulders.
❝ – heh. Guess we’ll find out, huh? Y’know, I’m starting to think you don’t have much faith in me. -- I took down a spaceship, y’know. ❞
priincess-pacifica:
He yells back up at her, and she has to fight to keep from letting her smile fully form, let alone let out the giggle that burns her throat. God he was such a doofus! As if he could kick her butt at mini golf of all things.
“Dipper, if you wanted a date you only had to ask.” She means it as a joke, her last words before she starts down the trellis by her window. She’d had the gardener set it there for exactly this purpose. By the time she hit the grass she was panting heavily, and she made for the golf cart, sliding in next to him. “You really just came here for a jailbreak?”
Unlike her carefully controlled expression, her commentary sent him into a pathetic spiral of sputtering nonsense, countenance ripe as a cherry with embarrassment and general nerves.
❝ – PSSSSHHH, what? NO, I never meant -- I mean I wouldn’t have ; HA! Right. As if. Heh -- eheheh ...uh ... ❞
He tapered off rather gracelessly -- try as he might to seem quick-witted, he was still Dipper. His nerves spiked quite palpably as she began to recklessly scale down the scaffolding on the side of her building, panic stricken expression twisted with worry as he fought to keep his hands still from reaching out for her until she finally arrived safely on ground level and slid into the seat beside him.
❝ – heh. See, that kinda makes it sound like a bad thing. I was thinking more like -- a liberation ~ ❞
He grins, lopsided and self-satisfied as he turns the key over in the ignition and fires up the golf cart once again.
You always surprise me, Pacifica. Ugh! Why did that put…fluttering things in her stomach? Why did that smile turn her insides to goo? What the hell was wrong with her now? Kissing him out of nowhere, feeling things…she hated it, if she was being honest.
But then she had to look up at him, and see that smile for herself and god did it yank at her heart. It was like he’d been sneaking in all these years, slowly ripping her heart from her chest.
She softens to him, smiles, “You always seem to surprise me too.”
The smile she returns to him makes his stomach do a back flip, and he grin turned nervous as he drew away for air and reclined back onto the blanket. His heart tumbles around in his chest as he watches the slurry of stars streak across the sky, the ghost of strawberry lip gloss still lingering around his mouth, which he couldn’t seem to keep from stretching in a wide, nervous smile.
❝ – yep ! That’s me. Unpredictable wild man. ❞
He laughed, praying to whatever god would listen that she wouldn’t notice his sweat-drenched palms with their fingers laced together so. Questions about what this implicated for the future, whether they were ...going out or not, and anything of that sort fell by the wayside, outside his usual pattern of overthinking things until his brain blew a gasket -- instead he let the delightfully nervous satisfaction of their closeness settle in his chest and simply enjoyed the moment for what it was ; ethereal, wonderful, and fleeting ...like a falling star.
Pacifica hadn’t been expecting company. Her father had grounded her. (As if she had thought. Her father hadn’t had the guts to do more than ring the bell before. Ever since she’d stopped that, he probably had to resolve to more middle-class methods.) And it had been for something as stupid as asking to go to the Shack. Her father didn’t like how much time she’d spent with the Pines lately, he thought them beneath, and to be bad influences.
So when she hears the high-pitched horn at her window, she figures there’s no harm in checking who it is.
Her jaw drops when she sees Dipper, hears him, and she feels her face break into the widest grin she’d pulled all week.
It’s the quickest she’s gotten ready in her young life, throwing on her golf uniform at a lightning pace and grabbing the clubs from the corner of her room.
She runs back to window, opens it and yells down, “What are you doing here, Dipwad?”
The smile on her face that she vies so hard to mask behind her usual brand of sarcasm makes the bumpy ride through the woods and the slurry of mosquito bites he’s sure to find peppering his arms come morning completely worth it, and he tips his baseball cap back off his forehead to see her better as he cranes his neck back, returning her shout in a harsh whisper that... well, at four stories down was way too loud to truly be considered a whisper.
❝ – oh, y’know. Just -- out for a little moonlit drive. And I thought, hey! Maybe you’d be up for getting your butt kicked at mini golf. ❞
He flashed her a wry, self-satisfied grin as he folded his arms confidently behind his head. Any singular soul in Gravity Falls could tell you that Pacifica was globally ranked in mini golf -- and even if she wasn’t, Dipper was flat out horrible at it. But still, here he found himself beneath her window bearing an invitation to get the crap kicked out of him, if only for the knowledge that doing so would cheer her up.
I showed Dipper and Mabel the things that we found in storage the other day, and they said that when people on Tumbler have some junk they don’t want, they make a “giveaway post”. Somehow through this post, I will chose someone to give these things to! Dipper and Mabel are helping immensely with this process. A few of the items are mine, some are from @stanblogs, and Soos wanted to throw in a few things from the gift shop as well.
Here’s what’s included:
A phony copy of my journal; stolen, published and sold by a Mister Alex Hirsch. Stan bought 20 copies just to annoy me.
My old glasses. Apparently Stan held on to these for 30 years while I was gone, but now the prescription is useless and they’re too small for my head.
An embarrassing crystal pyramid…I thought I’d smashed all these but they keep popping back up. Like weeds.
Two deer teeth. Don’t ask.
One of my many dice sets. They’re quite pretty, but my collection is too big and I only ever use my luckiest set.
Stanley’s old card deck. There are slight differences in the back of the cards that he has memorized and used to cheat. There’s an extra Queen of Hearts in there too.
A magic 8 ball; the original inspiration for Mr. Mystery’s iconic cane.
One of the blue Pine hats from the gift shop. Dipper took quite a shine to one of these the summer that I met him.
A Mystery Shack bumper sticker from the gift shop.
A few Gravity Falls postcards from the gift shop.
We might throw in a few more treats as well. Mabel handed me a list of things I should write as rules:
Likes and Re-Blogs count as entries. Only one Re-Blog will be counted.
No “giveaway blogs”
The winner will be chosen by a random number generator
US entries only please, international shipping is expensive and as much as we’d like, we can’t deliver in the Stan O’ War.
Also, personally I would prefer that only people who do not currently own a copy of my journal enter, but apparently the thing took the world by storm and now it’s everywhere…so if you win and you already have a copy, please give it to a friend or family member that would make good use of it. You can keep everything else.
We will chose a winner two weeks from now, on July 3rd. Good luck!
he’s so whipped 💅👑
