“That’s still acceptance. Blind, naive, lemming-like acceptance, but acceptance nonetheless.”
“Seems like there would be a lot of lemmings around here then.”
“No, I’m pretty sure you have to accept something in order to approve of it.”
“Well the people who approve of this are clearly not seeing the blatant wrongs underway, so what they are accepting is some illusion.”
“… I don’t think you understand what the term ‘mutually exclusive’ means.”
“I fully understand. But at the current state people are in it seems that people think they must only accept, but not approve of it. Yet if they are approving of it, are they really accepting what has happened for what it truly is? The two will never exist together as people are reacting today.”
“Accepting and approving are two very different things.”
“Yes, and the two are mutually exclusive. Acceptance must happen, yet you don’t have to approve of it. Everybody thinks they have to do both.”
“Because I’m pretty sure that’s how it usually works, right? Unless…you’re confusing me for Lysander?”
“Not always. But I am somebody who think that how often your mentioned in people’s conversation is no indicator of who you are as a person. And I know you’re Lorcan.”
“I’ve been around stories and legends my entire life. Adventure, too. After a while, you start to look for things that can allow you to touch base after so many years of living other people’s lives. I guess living vicariously through characters in books does have its advantages. At least you know what genre you’re in before you start off your adventure. Also, can I just say I’d have never taken you for a maroon girl. You act a lot more like a blue.” Salvador watched her move, ears following the sound of brush being pushed away. Soon, his eyes flickered back up to the canopy of the forest, his feet firmly on the ground for now. “Well, Ms. Darcy– ” Phantom claws racking down his back in long, deep rows. Teeth, yellow and sharp, digging into his arm. Ripping into his chest. He had screamed, he had screamed so loud but somehow the snarling was louder. It hurt, God, it hurt. There was so much blood, so much of it he had to have died. “ – I think you can deduce that all on your own. You’re a smart girl, and I’ve already thrown all my thoughts out for you to analyze and absorb. I’m sure you can take a good crack at what must have liberated me. But no, I can’t say I have heard much about you.”
“Well maybe my life has been terribly mundane and as a result I simply crave trying to fill it with adventure, with something of substance. But that is just a maybe.” Never so easily would she disclose the inner workings of her strange mind nor the tails of her past.” Eleanor lifted her maroon scarf that seemed more fitting to be worn for Gryffindor pride. “On the contrary I think it’s an excellent color. You have red, which a vibrant, fiery color, with a touch of blue, calm and collected. Throw in a splash of earth brown and you have maroon. It really is the color that is the most well balanced.” Clearly, as with many things, she had thought about it before. And now she would think on what event could so have impacted Salvador’s life. She stared at him, the twisting expressions of his face, stepping closer, maybe uncomfortable close as she attempted to read him. This would be her hardest story to deduce yet. “I can’t say you’ve given me much, but it is a challenge I readily accept. You'll have to tolerate my company a bit more if I'm going to have any chance at it though."
“Maybe. Now, I’m not complaining, but what you’re giving me isn’t exactly usual, though. What about your mundane interests? You know, how you like your toast, your favorite color. The little things. Then again, you seem like a bigger picture person.” Salvador waved his hand in an encompassing gesture as if to capture the entirety of their conversation. “You’re very wise for your age, Ms. Darcy. Believe me, I understand where you’re coming from with not being the only one responsible for your existence bit. I was… I was a very different person not that long ago. I thrived off of people and interaction, a horrible dependence on it, actually. Then, I was liberated. Not in a conventional way, sure, but I wouldn’t change it. The ‘pain was worth the gain’ as they say. As far as impressions go, though, I think my identity is in capable enough hands. You aren’t going to gossip about me, are you? Or slander my good name?”
“Why would I want to associate myself with the mundane? I tend to like experiences. An adventure here and there, impulsion. But I suppose reading would be my mundane task of choice. Although I’d much rather live the tales in the books, wouldn’t you? But I like my toast with jam and butter, and my favorite color is maroon.” She smirked slightly. “If you really want to know.” Eleanor pushed herself off from the tree, beggining to pass around the forest, toe pushing away at the brush below her. “Thank you kindly Mr. Cambers. But, liberated. That is a strong word. What happened than that set you free from the atrocious web of gossip everybody gets so thoroughly sucked into. What pain did you endure exactly?” This part of the conversation peaked her interest, walking closer to the male. “I would never. Have you ever heard my name dragged through the mudd? There’s a reason it hasn’t been.”
“That makes sense,” Lorcan nodded. “Though I don’t think I’m the center of too much gossip around–at least I hope not.”
“And who says you have to be the center of any gossip to be noticed.”
“But you can’t very well say that you’re okay with that.”
“I think it would be a waste of time to fret over it and just accepting it would be better.”
“I’m not sure I much like the idea of getting used to it, though.”
“It has to happen sooner or later.”
“Well, you wouldn’t have to psychoanalyse every aspect of both your life and mine, so it would certainly be a lot less exhausting.”
“Who says I am doing that? Have an alternative way of getting to know somebody besides conversation? Pretty standard. Or should we just sit and brood.”
Lorcan continued to follow closely behind the girl, their footsteps echoing in the empty hallway. “Nice to meet you, Eleanor.” Lorcan said as he took out his wand as he climbed a staircase. “Wait, you already know my name?”
“Pleasure.” She nodded over her shoulder and continued her ascent with eagerness. “Well of course. It’s quite easy to learn a lot of people’s names around here if you just listen a bit.”
“History buff? C'mon, Darcy, give me something.” Salvador nodded along, understanding the motivation behind wanting to both simply exist and to make a difference. Such a contradiction of thought, he knew, but he understood. “Hm. I’ve always been a man for freedom of self. Existing on my own without having the concerns and problems of everyone else weighing me down. Really, I just like the fringes. The area just outside of other’s thoughts, enough to leave an impression but not a full image. Someone who’ll you’ll remember, but not really. Like… Well, not like a ghost, but I’m sure you get the gist of it.” He knew that if it weren’t for the fact that he’d be graduating soon, weren’t for the fact he’d likely never see this girl again outside of school, he’d never say all of this. The atmosphere of the forest (the castle in general, honestly) was to blame. “I’m sure I’ll make peace with my otherness.”
“What, are you trying to find out my passions? What I’m interested in? Above all else I enjoy hearing people’s stories, what drives them in their life. I think it helps me craft my own.” Eleanor thoroughly believed that every person she encountered imparted something on her life, changing something about her. Some would prove to do that more than others, but it wasn’t often that people proved interesting enough to do so, or simply they would not stay for long. “I love most of my life observing. If people would stop talking about themselves and listened to tohers, they would bes urprised how much they learn. It’s why I think I am not the sole person responsible for my existence, my course. Others impact it greatly. But see if we both fancy frolicking on the fringes of society, then what happens when we come together such as this? Who really knows. I hate to tell you though, no impression has ever been fleeting for me. It’s here to stay. ”
“You really don’t miss a thing, do you?”
“Never. Where would the fun be in missing anything?”
“Well, some people do the same thing every day.”
“And what to do you do?”
“Fan of calligraphy?” Salvador asked, though he wasn’t entirely curious. “You should. Unless you’re the type who likes being found instead of getting lost. I know some people don’t like just existing. Makes them feel unimportant and impotent. I’ve never really been one of those people. How about you, Ms. Darcy?” He laughed and dug a foot into the soft ground beneath him. The centaurs weren’t welcoming of outsiders, so it wasn’t entirely a pleasant encounter. “It wasn’t exactly a give and take conversation. But, I might just be something else.”
“I have no opinions on the matter. It’s more the context that thought is preserved in words.” Head leaning back she continued into the depth of casual conversation filled with deeper meaning. “I would have to say neither. In some moment I want to simply exist, but then others require action, impulsive decisions to bring about change. Yet I am not opposed to letting others make them for me, decide my course of actions for an evening and just exist in them. Both are enticing to me.” In every sense she lived for the spontaneous adventure, each yielding some further answer about what she was really meant to be doing. “I think you might.”
