This series of panels kills me every time. Jushiro absolutely doesn’t want to fight Yamamoto. Not because he fears he will lose, but because such a gap has opened up between them. He and Shunsui have pleaded for reason, for Yamamoto to listen to them and they’re met with violence.

Yamamoto is demanding they draw their swords, Ryūjin Jakka is already in its shikai state. Barring some miracle intervention, he knows this is a death match in the making.

The realization, the pain in his face as his oldest mentor is preparing to cut him down and the acceptance that soon follows kill me. Jushiro has always been a man who would die by his convictions, but to see how their relationship splintered under the strain of their moral differences breaks my heart.
