Great movie, wonderful art. I wish they'd refrained from actual devil worshiping witches in the end since in reality, it was just religious fanatics killing innocent women and men. Put in the actual devil, and you're tacitly saying the murderous fanatics were right.

I can find very little about this book or author other than Alta in the Shadows is a 1974 gothic tale but I found a little more about the artist George Ziel, Polish artist Jerzy Zielezinski. He was a Holocaust survivor who moved to the US and made a lot of wonderful spooky art for pulp novels. He has a brief biography here https://lynn-munroe-books.com/list62/GEORGE_ZIEL2.htm

This would make a great cover for Carmilla with its castle and cat imagery.

Super late to the party, but finally watched The VVitch. Damn, that was a good movie!

I really like the movie and I love the reference to Revelations 18:7 with the whore of Babylon and the end of the world which is what witch hunters believed witches were up to. In league with the devil to bring about the end of the world. Ironically, the film shows us the witch hunters are right when in reality witches existed only in their conspiracy minded thinking. In that regard, i might have liked the film more had they kept out the actual witches and devil and left it to being a product of their self-made delusion.
