Uhh is something wrong with using the word wendigo or something? A lot of artist adopts I see change the name wendigo after a while (to deer or monster or something) and idk why but they say ‘it’s to be respectful’?
Because the Wendigo is an integral part of the spiritual beliefs and practices of specific Aboriginal Tribes, including (to my knowledge) the Alonquin, Pottawa, Ottawa, and Chippewa.
Most representations of Wendigo are drastically removed from their original context. Wendigo are not deer creatures, nor do they have antlers; they are typically depicted as perpetually hungry and ever-growing human corpses, though it reportedly varies drastically from tribe to tribe. Similarly, using the beliefs of other cultures like goofy horror movie fodder is culturally insensitive and, indeed, disrespectful.
This isn’t to say every piece of media that has depicted wendigo this way is “bad” media, but it’s a mentality that we need to leave in the past as we move towards a future that’s more respectful and inclusive of the beliefs of living and practicing peoples and their religions.
Finally, I highly recommend reading over @writingwithcolor‘s extremely informative Wendigo tag, as they have a First Nations moderator who can explain it better than I can.
I hope this helps.
my suggestion is if you want a deer-headed/antlered man-eating monster, you can use the jersey devil like the wolf among us did, or you could just go with generic demon
The pairing of antlers with the ever-hungry man-shaped thing probably comes from the Hannibal fandom. The name Wendigo was never used for this creature in the show, but it may have been used in interviews. I think I’ve mostly seen it called “the Stag Man” by the crew. The fandom, on the other hand, mostly uses the word Wendigo.
(Not excusing, btw, just providing context for where the influx of tall, emaciated, antlered creature art probably came from in the last few years).
Definitely making a mental note to try using Stag Man from here out. Thanks for the check!
It's June 1. It's time.
Go be gay.
Happy Pride month!
why are there so many posts about asexuals being immune to sirens. people. sirens don’t lure you in with sex (necessarily). they sing about whatever it is that you want most. they could sing about mothman or cinnamon toast crunch and guess what then your asexual pirate is fucking dead
this is the only kind of ace discourse i ever want to see on my dash. the only kind. ever again. good job
Do you think the sirens would be grateful that they finally get some variety?
“Oh my god we can finally just sing about pasta thank the fucking gods.”
I’m not asexual but I’m fairly certain sirens would do a far better job luring me into the depths with a song about pasta rather than sex…
I mean.
“WHAT THE FUCK STAY AWAY FROM THE ROCKS.”
“FUCKER THEY SAID THEY HAVE FETTUCCINE CARBONARA AND HOT GARLIC BREAD OVER THERE HANG ON BITCH.”
This is true; Odysseus heard them promising him knowledge of the future. So the next time you see artwork like this:
Remember those sultry naked chicks are saying “We’ll tell you the winning lotto numbers.”
Them: “We have unlimited wifi at incredible speeds~” Me: *diving headfirst into the water*
This post is a blessing

Is using spell check okay at all now?
In writing groups I'm in it's grammar and spell check is for newbies and those wanting a crutch or a cheat code.
I'm going to be frank with you, anon. Those writing groups sound toxic as fuck and I'd recommend finding a better place to spend your time.
Grammar check and spell check are embedded in most word processing software and have been since the 1990s. People don't have to use them if they don't want to, of course, but there's nothing wrong with using them.
English spelling is famously a bastardization of French multiplied by German divided by Latin with fifty other languages thrown in for fun. And don't even get me started on the Great Vowel Shift.
All that to say, being bad at spelling is not a moral failing nor is it a sign of weak character. It's a fact of life for an overwhelming majority of people writing in English.
Or, to put it another way, would you tell a near-sighted person such as myself that wearing glasses is a cheat code and that I should just "see better"? I really hope not.
went to a new optometrist today wearing my squid facts ‘save our freaks dont mine the deep’ shirt from @sarahmackattack that has a strawberry squid on it. and i wasn’t even thinking about it but the optometrist walked in and he was like ‘oh what does your shirt say’ so i showed him and he was like ‘oh that’s neat!’ and then i thought he might like to know about strawberry squid eyes since they have weird eyes and he is an optometrist and all. so i was like ‘yeah it’s actually a real kind of squid called a strawberry squid, their eyes are really cool because they have one big yellow-green one and one small blue one’ and he kind of gasped and went ‘oh my god that’s so interesting i wonder why they have that. do you know what their retina composition is like?’ and i watched as he minimized my chart on the computer and started looking up images of strawberry squid and then he googled ‘strawberry squid retina composition’ and he was like ‘sorry we’ll get to your eye exam in a moment i just really want to find out’ LMAO 10/10 optometrist experience will be returning

Disgust has absolutely no ethical weight. If you are basing your ethical positions on the emotion of disgust you should stop, it is entirely unjustified and leads to a huge amount of harm.
Word for today: wisdom of repugnance
The logical fallacy that because something disgusts you it must be bad
this is probably the funniest example of a tumblr user simply not reading the post theyre reblogging at all
Reblog if you are a freak who is justifying their gross actions
