Your art is just beautiful btw 😍
Quick question:
What do you think Old Man Coyote, aka Mephistopheles, would look like if he were to take on a human form?
Aaa thank you so much!!
Incoming ramble session I’m sending out to the void but:
I actually played around with it briefly when I was designing for another character! A previous iteration of Lord Ruthven was inspired by theatrical costumes, which at some point ended up overlapping with Mephistopheles' costume designs for the stage!
Pulling from that, I think if they did ever take up a humanoid form, they should be able to switch between different depictions of “trickster” gods to better appeal to whoever they want to trick (going beyond time and such)! This just goes into headcanon mode where I lean onto Old Man Coyote/Mephistopheles/some other name being is actually a game enemy from Castlevania called Chaos. The idea of "chaos" leans into a lot of already existing trickster gods.
So technically they don’t have one singular human form, but to not stab the animator and storyboarder in me with ten million swords, I think the most preferred human form (besides the og shadow one) would be something close either:
1901 by Konstantin Korovin (just because of vibes and I really like this sketch)
Or Sir Henry Irving's costume in 1880, which not only matches his original silhouette more (thus easier to have "phase" between designs), but also is connected to Dracula because it has been said to be a real-life inspiration for Bram Stoker's Dracula.
If we wanted to lean into something Old Man Coyote, I think him just being a Coyote who stands upright works (but also I genuinely cannot say because I don't know enough)
OLROX HELPING MIZRAK CHANGE IS DOING SOMETHING TO MY MIND KEEP UP THE WORK
here's him helping dress down HEHEHEHE
Also I purposely put that many belts on his jacket for that reason, amongst other things lol
omg theyre dancing

I hit the crazy feats of 7 minutes because I accidentally derail from the original intent, whoops, but at least the idea and concept is out of my head
the ram, the snake, and the in-between
tera serving cunt with the rest of the gang!! uh explanatory ramble coming later tho I do need to kind of just rip it off like a bandaid soon :p
comms are open ✨
Do you angst, fluff, smut or just everything above? Well this is where you shall appease those needs. I provide both 2D (super popular is the Castlevania + Castlevania: Nocturne style) and painterly styles! So send me your way and I’m happy to provide
There is a current waitlist but I’m happy keep you in the loop and still discuss your needs in the meantime!
Here are some examples below!

Juste talks about “Ruthven”, which I’m going to blindly presume is Juste’s “Dracula”, so I tried to mockup a Ruthven design but it’s ending up being a lot more then I realised haha. I’ll leave this here for now but I’ll just spit ball so when I come back it’ll all be here
The book The Vampyre, published in 1819, is considered the first vampire books in English literature, with Lord Ruthven as our vampire. It depicts the building blocks such as aristocracy, charm, and other vampire traits that would also later appear in Carmila and popularised in Dracula.
I wanted to perceive him as otherworldly and a major contrast to not only Juste, but Maxim and Lydie as those designs ended up leaning towards lower class and servant vibes.
This would end up into mostly four different pathways I went:
- Tudor(ish) and Greek(ish) clothing to make appearance older/unlike Dracula
- References to the first animated feature film Snow White as an ode to the first vampire in literature
- References to theatre, in what is considered the “first” depiction of a pact with the devil with Doctor Faustus. Thus costuming and designs surrounding Mephistopheles, the devil’s henchmen (Maxim, Juste’s friend, gets possessed so I feel like this goes nicely in hand)
- References to the fashion of the 1800s when the book was published. Also having a vague lean towards Lord Byron, who Ruthven was based off
Somehow the costuming for Mephistopheles is not only just really cool, but can encompass all of the pathways I’ve covered since I can still go for a 1800s costuming, even 1930s due to Snow White, because it’s a lens of the older eras. I ended up mish mashing a lot of the styles to get somewhere.
-
I’m having alot of fun with the more theatrical costume look, I still want to challenge myself to do a “Castlevania” look which ends up being a lot more modern, especially the vampires so I’ll probably end up doing two versions.
doode of the finalised ver, ill clean it up some other dayyyy
layout wip for a upcoming animaticccc
Olrox fancy sheet for an upcoming animatic that pairs with this mizrak sheet here !! I may redo his fancy outfit later but it works for what I need it to do
This animatic is intentionally inspired by Disney's Silver Age and 2000s Barbie films (in turn, ballet and theatre) because the setting is supposed to be a vampire ball event they're infiltrating that is supposed to feel to Mizrak, "something out of a fairy tale" (at least to modern audiences im realising LOL). This includes Olrox.
Got fancy Tera left to go hehe but unsure if i will keep her a secret until the animatic is done hrm
mizrak gets to finally serve in clothes for future animatics, yipee
Also compiling myself a PDF of the ideation sketches I might share here so I can put what my vision was all together, and then refer to it in the future because I'm not 100% sold on the cunty fancy mizrak design but the direction of "leather pirate prince with too many belts" in my notes was something I could not deny trying
