low effort witchy things ᶻ 𝗓 𐰁 .ᐟ
first thing in the morning—take three slow deep breaths (air/sky) more grounding than immediately checking a phone
notice your feet on the ground taking root when you stand up for the first time of the day, take a little stretch (earth/land)
wash or splash your face to get alll the way awake. then chug a big glass. (water/sea)
appreciate any trees, plants, dirt, or clouds you see
place both hands on your heart to feel your own heat and warmth. feel your heart beating. “i am alive” (fire)
wear or carry a rock, hagstone, crystal, talisman, or amulet
in times of stress or dissociation, rub your thumb in small circles on the back of your other hand to ground and soothe. (clockwise for attracting an intention, counterclockwise for banishing)
color magic with clothing
add cinnamon, lavender, or peppermint to coffee according to intention if you don’t want to drink tea
stirring tea/coffee according to intention
sometimes i pick a little affirmation for the day— “may i forgive myself” “the universe is within me/the wild is within me”
visualization—inhale a bright light and let it fill your lungs, exhaling clouds of negativity
or create a shield with breathing. with each breath, imagine a bubble forming around your body, then your aura, growing with strength.
cleansing shower at the end of the day (intending it to cleanse my aura makes me more motivated to take one, idkw)
if taking a bath, add a dash of moon water
sniff lavender essential oil before bed
look at the moon, talk to it. remind yourself that it’s the same one your ancestors knew.
Cosmic & Celestial Witchcraft 101 ✧
One of the most asked questions I have received over the years is something along the lines of "what is cosmic witchcraft and where do I sign up?" Here's some info and tips from yours truly!
Note: this is an edited and revamped version of a post I made back in like, 2016-2017.
Who:
What is a cosmic witch? Who can be a cosmic witch?
Anyone can be a cosmic witch! The main aspects of cosmic witchcraft include working with the various celestial bodies included in the cosmos, and harnessing energy from them depending upon your intent. If you feel drawn to the cosmos and the vastness of outer space, then cosmic witchcraft is definitely for you!
What & Why:
What aspects of cosmic witchcraft are you most drawn to?
Is it your fascination with outer space? Is it the desire for a spiritual relationship with the cosmos? Maybe you just don't really vibe with other practices. Or maybe you just really like the planets!
Which celestial bodies can you work with?
This ranges from planets, to stars, to constellations, and various deep space objects. Each celestial body has its own set of correspondences and associations, some that may resonate more with you than others.
If you're at a loss on which celestial body to begin working with, it could be helpful to find your dominant planet by calculating your birth chart, or natal chart. birth charts show the alignment of the planets and other celestial bodies at the time of your birth. Each person has a dominant planet, which can be found in some of the more detailed birth charts that you can complete online.
To find your dominant planet, go to Astro.com > click “extended chart selection” on the right hand side > fill out the necessary information > choose “Pullen/Astrolog” > from the dropdown menu, select “simple chart delineation by Walter Pullen” > scroll about ½ or ¾ of the way down the page until you find a section that lists the total percentages of the planets present in your chart > the planet with the highest percentage would be considered your dominant planet.
What kind of spells can you perform?
Each celestial body has their own set of correspondences to choose from depending on your intent.
That being said, the types of spells you can perform when practicing cosmic witchcraft are endless -
Draw planetary symbols as sigils, or combine them to represent more than one intention
Make spell jars or sachets using ingredients that represent various planets or celestial bodies
Perform glamour & bath magic using [skin safe] cosmic spell ingredients
Burn loose incense or herbs that represent the planets
Make powders that represent the planets to be used in spell jars, sachets, or to be sprinkled in a desired area
Charge water with celestial energy
Turn your charged water into a consumable potion
What kind of tools can you use?
With Cosmic Witchcraft, you’re free to use whatever tools you like, as they all have some kind of association to the cosmos. This includes herbs, essential oils, and crystals, to name a few.
When:
Spell timing in cosmic witchcraft can be considered in a multitude of ways -
Planetary hours (the hours of the Sun, the Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Saturn, etc.)
Lunar phases (waning, waxing, full, new, etc.)
Planetary aspects and alignments (sextile, trine, conjunction, square, etc.)
Planetary placements (whether a planet is transiting through a certain zodiac sign)
Various times of day (sunrise, daylight, noon, evening, twilight, nighttime, midnight, etc.)
During Meteor Showers or Eclipses
Where:
Cosmic witchcraft can be performed literally anywhere, whether it’s inside or outside. You don’t necessarily have to be outside under the night sky to successfully perform a cosmic spell or harness cosmic energy. You don't even need a telescope!
When performing cosmic magic indoors (which is me 98% of the time), you can totally use some visual or auditory tools to help you out; i.e. spacey music, a picture of space on your computer, a space poster on the wall behind your altar, etc. Basically just using something as a focal point, especially for aphantasic witches or witches who don't utilize visualization in their practice.
How:
Actively practicing cosmic witchcraft not only involves spellwork, but seemingly mundane tasks as well -
Learn to harness the power of the cosmos to not only perform spells but also to charge, empower, and enchant objects
Learn to shield and protect yourself using cosmic energy
Set up an altar dedicated to the cosmos and your practice
Use actions as offerings
Do arts and crafts that can be used as active spell components or as objects to represent the cosmos
Wear jewelry, clothing, or accessories to represent the cosmos
Draw planetary symbols, sigils, or constellations on yourself
Employ cosmic energy for aid in divination
Learn about the scientific aspect of the celestial bodies you're working with
Spend time with the stars and night sky

💫 Why Protection Magic Is Useful (even if you have no enemies)
A lot of witches will tell new witches (baby witches) that they should start by learning and using protection magic. However, I've started to see a lot of witches say that protection magic is not as important as other witches claim it to be. Saying that they don't have anyone coming after them or an enemy in real life to warrant a spell of protection.
I think this may also be due to how I've not personally come across anyone really explaining why a witch may want to use protection magic all the time.
Now, it is true that there's no need to be paranoid all the time and have protection up 24/7. But here's a list where you may use it, find it useful, or haven't thought protection magic could be included.
An actual person -- This one is obvious, you have an enemy in real life or on the internet and you need protection magic to protect you from their curses.
A malevolant spirit -- They can come from your windows, mirrors (including tv screens, computer screens, and other reflective surfaces maybe), they seep through floor cracks, hanging onto your coats from outside, etc. Just like how you'd use garden gloves to avoid dirt up your nails being trapped there. Protection magic is just like putting on those gloves.
An energy -- Say you have a neighbour who's arguing with someone. They're yelling and screaming and it can be heard through the apartment walls. That negative energy is seeping into your home and your energy. So it may be worth protecting your home and energy from that sour neighbour's energy. (ever been scolded by your mother and your mood is sour? it's kind of like the same here.)
Your own spell -- Now a self-love spell is probably not something you should protect yourself from. But let's say you're doing a curse. It would be a smart idea to make sure you're protected before beginning such a spell. Much like how you'd wear an apron to protect your clothes from stains when cooking food. You may not always spill your food when cooking, but damn it is it annoying when you do and the stain won't wash off. It's the same with a spell.
Unintentionally -- Sometimes things can happen that's out of our control and it's a good idea to be a little prepared. A black cat suddenly running across the street? Bad luck. Someone got jealous when you told them something good? Evil Eye. Think of it as going to the store with an extra bag for your groceries. You may not need it, but isn't it handy when you at one point do need it?
Protection magic doesn't have to be elaborate or grand or be convoluted. Protection magic is powerful but also extremely simple. All you need is a horseshoe above the door, a little talisman in your pocket, a sigil for your car, etc.
So don't dismiss the importance of protection magic. It may help to improve your spellwork and your energy.
Intro to Sigil Magic: Symbols of Intention
Sigil magic is a form of symbolic witchcraft where you create a unique symbol to represent a desire, then charge it with energy and release it. It’s discreet, powerful, and can be used by beginners or advanced witches alike.
1. What’s a Sigil?
A sigil is a visual symbol created to hold magical intent. It’s like a spiritual shorthand—a symbol that represents your goal on a subconscious level.
2. How to Create a Sigil:
• Step 1: Write your intention clearly.
Example: “I attract calm and clarity.”
• Step 2: Remove all repeating letters.
Result: IATRCLMNDY
• Step 3: Rearrange and stylize the letters into a unique symbol.
Blend the letters into a design that feels magical and personal.
• Step 4: Charge your sigil.
Focus energy into it using:
– Meditation
– Candle flame
– Breath
– Dance or movement
• Step 5: Release it.
Burn it, bury it, draw it somewhere hidden. Let go of the desire and trust the magic to work.
Where to Use Sigils:
• On mirrors, water bottles, or phone backgrounds
• Sewn into clothes or written on skin
• In spell jars, candles, or ritual tools
Sigils are quiet spells—but they speak volumes.

How to Set Up a Beginner Witch Altar
An altar is a sacred space where you focus your energy, perform rituals, and connect with your craft. It can be simple or elaborate—it’s all about what feels magical to you.
⸻
1. Choose a Space
• A shelf, nightstand, box, windowsill, or desk
• Keep it private or discreet if needed
• Cleanse the area before setting up
⸻
2. Basic Altar Items
You don’t need everything—start with what you have:
• Candle – for fire & focus
• Bowl of water – for emotion & cleansing
• Salt or soil – for earth & grounding
• Incense or feather – for air & thought
• Crystal, plant, or object of power – your anchor
• Offering dish – coins, herbs, shells, etc.
• Personal item – something that connects you to your spirit (jewelry, photo, charm)
⸻
3. Optional Additions
• Deity or ancestor symbols
• Tarot deck or pendulum
• Written affirmations or sigils
• Seasonal items (flowers, leaves, fruit, bones, etc.)
• Journal or Book of Shadows nearby
⸻
4. Keep It Alive
• Cleanse your altar regularly
• Switch it up with the moon or seasons
• Use it for meditation, spellwork, or simply sitting in sacred stillness
⸻
Your altar is a mirror of your magic. Make it yours.

Some little things I've learned over a decade of witchcraft:
If you are feel called to work but are tired/drained, sit outside. Take in all the energies around you. Nature can help charge you
Every witch does a little bit of a bunch of types of magic but sticks mainly to one or two in general. You usually won't be eclectic forever. You'll find what magics work best with you.
Never be lazy or cut corners with spirits. Always be respectful and always tell them to leave when you're done
When you see a plant or ingredient with a long list of properties, there are different things at play. Season of collection, the part of the plant, the health of the plant, etc all play a role in impacting which properties it will carry.
Don't call on spirits unless you have confidence and control
Be careful with sea/water magic. Get into it gently and slowly until you have the energy figured out because it can get out of hand quickly.
Adding a little pinch of magic into your breakfast can make a major difference in your day.
Your personal emotions/feelings over something will impact a work
Planting some plants is good, not only to have a garden, but the dirt helps cleanse you too. Get all dirty and muddy. It's good for ya
Not all trees are nice
The more you listen to your intuition, the easier it will be to tell it apart from your anxieties and worries
Incense is very easy to make which is why it's usually cheap to buy. But you can find a million tutorials online on how to make your own personal incense which is great if you want a spell to take effect over a while but also want to infuse the fire energy in it.
The more you work with something the better feel you get for it. Cinnamon goes in almost everything i cook and most of my spells because me and cinnamon just get right along
Your path is yours and no one else's. It will look like yours and no one else's
