Relatable
Yes. Reading excessively as a child for a lot of us was a form of escapism. But part of the reason so many of us struggle to read now is because we based our entire taste in reading on what helped us escape, but as we get older and our needs changed, a lot of us never adapted our reading tastes. So we keep trying to read YA fiction and it just doesn’t hit the way it used to and we assume it’s because we can’t read like we used to, but the reality is that we need a new genre of liturature to suit our new life experiences and mature taste.
As a Scottish person living in England I feel this on a personal level, when people say shit like “well it’s not the genuine asylum seekers I’m bothered by, it’s the people who just move here to get a better job and take advantage of our welfare system” and I’m like “Mate, I literally moved 500 miles south to a different country just to get a better job and better weather, if you’re going to hate on anyone for that hate on me.”
Then they try to back-track and say things like “Well you already speak perfect English so it’s fine” and I’m like “My grandma didn’t speak very good English when my grandparents settled in the UK from Finland, what are you trying to say?”
And they’re like “Well I’m sure you’re grandparents had useful jobs and weren’t just sponging off the system.” like… nah, my grandma mended clothes and my grandad sold garden sheds, they weren’t exactly brain surgeons
“But they…” just admit it, it’s not white immigrants that bother you, I doubt Americans go on marches protesting the Canadian undergrad students who overstay their visas or all the germans and scandinavians who just rocked up in the Midwest one day and decided to call it their own.
This was how I finally started to understand white privilege.

That Time Molly Yelled At The Twins And Ron For Saving Harry From Abuse And Starvation, Thus Likely Communicating To The Abused Kid In Her Presence That His Welfare Was Less Important Than Not Borrowing The Car, That Time Molly Was Utterly Condescending About How Harry Is A Child And Doesn’t Deserve To Know Anything In A Way That Probably Heightened His Determination To Prove Otherwise, That Time Molly Said The Twins Put Together Aren’t As Good As Any Of Their Brothers Over OWL Results That They Worked Hard On And Were Proud Of, That Time Molly Forcibly Cut Her Adult Son’s Hair Right Before His Wedding, That Time Molly Spent A Year Being Mean And Rejectful Toward Her Son’s Fiancee, That Time Molly Sent Hermione A Deliberate “Fuck You” Present For Easter Because She Believed A False Story Written In Witch Weekly Without Making Any Attempt To Ask The People Actually Involved, Those Times She Made Her Youngest Son’s Christmas Sweaters His Least Favorite Color, And Every Time She Belittled Her Husband’s Hobby, The Twins’ Interests, And Bill’s Appearance Because She Couldn’t Be Bothered To Understand Or Value Or Even Be Kind About Them a detailed reminder that no one’s perfect and sometimes what one person doesn’t mind or see hits another person hard

And now it’s time to spend a moment with Queen Helen of the sovereign nation of Fuckinfantastica, serving you beauty, elegance, and four million dollars’ worth of Harry Winston diamonds like she woke up in them.
Saoirse Ronan’s underwhelming Celine notwithstanding, we think Dame Helen and Ana de Armas managed to effectively argue that, for major awards shows, it’s often best to work the classics. This classically shaped gown and Ana’s have two elements that Saoirse’s lacked: dramatic sweep and a rich, deeply flattering color. There’s no checklist of elements that will guarantee a great red carpet moment, but in our not inconsiderable experience documenting this silly little circus, if we had to compile a list of the style aspects most likely to result in a positive outcome, drama and color would definitely be top of the list. This dame looks, quite simply, gorgeous.
As an aside, attention should be paid to Queen Helen’s ability to werk a skirt. She’s known for producing these highly photogenic moments when she plays with her dress and we have to say, very few stars manage that sort of thing without looking a little silly half the time. She looks like a perfume ad every time she does it. It’s not exactly the most important skill in the world to have, but plenty of well-paid supermodels have made their entire careers on that one talent.

Watch: The most wonderful moment of joy came when he entered a Nazi guard bungalow.
We are the last generation who can hear from these survivors directly. Do not take that lightly. Do not waste that opportunity. Do not forget your freedom isn’t infinitely guarenteed. And do not, do not, let it happen again.
Really truly, watch the video, reblog it. Teaching about the holocaust is so necessary for our generation before it slips under the rug and people forget about it.
AUSTRALIA IS BURNING
The disastrous wildfires taking place in Australia are not getting enough attention. People, animals & parts of Australia are dying, and there isn’t a sign that it is going to stop soon. These wildfires are 4 times worse than the amazon fires, and yet are receiving SO much less attention.
The facts:
There are currently 200 wildfires across Australia (expected to drastically increase).
So far, almost half a MILLION animals have been killed (including a third of its koala bears).
Over 20 people have lost their lives, with dozens more missing.
5 million hectares have been burned (the Amazon was 900,000).
Australian Priminister Scott Morrison refuses to accept that this is as a result of a climate crisis.
The wildfires have reached (and started to melt) glaciers in distant New Zealand.
Thousands of homes have been burned to the ground, resulting in evacuations.
The amount of Australia burnt is equivalent to the entire country of Belgium.
How you can help:
Reblog this! Help this post reach a wider audience which will show more people what they can do to help.
Organisations that you can support (instagrams linked):
Wildlife rescue
Vic fire service
NSW fire service
Red Cross
Celeste Barber has also brilliantly set up a fundraiser in order to support the firefighters, and has amazingly raised $18.8 MILLION Australian dollars so far (this is rapidly increasing). You can support by donating anything you can to HERE
If you can’t donate, please show your support by reblogging this & raising as much awareness as you can. This is a devastating situation which needs as much attention as it can. Thank you!
