My opinion on The Backrooms movie... SPOILERS!!

Finished watching the Backrooms movie in theaters and I have walked out as a changed man. Lots of references and phycological horror. Personal 10/10. I will be explaining everything I noticed, and why I'm upset with the backlash.

I personally loved it, but I see people complaining about how it isn't "accurate". It wasn't based off the Wiki or the Wikidot, so many entities and levels like the Smilers wouldn't be there. It's based off of Kane Pixel's YouTube series, as he was the one directing the movie. I also saw people being upset Bacteria wasnt there, and was replaced by a "corny" entity.

Still Life Clark was meant to be the personification of Clarks worst traits, and how he's not able to let go of his past. In the end, it was what killed him. It then goes after Mary, who ends up escaping from Still Life Clark, symbolizing she learned she needed to let go of her past trauma to move on in life.

As for the ending where it shows a Still Life Mary in the warped interview room, that could mean that even if we move on in our lives, some part of us is still living in that moment. We don't fully know if she escaped the Backrooms, but I like to think she did.

The movie wasn't supposed to be a loud and scary "everyone is being chased all the time" kind of horror. It was meant to be something that unsettled you and made you uncomfortable while also telling a story. People complaining that Still Life Clark didn't look like a generic scary monster missed the point of the movie entirely.

Still Life Clark is a being created from a misremembered moment in time, not something made just to chase and kill people like how some people wanted it.

EDIT: I'm seeing lots of discourse about the "racist connotations" of the movie. The movie is NOT racist. I see people saying because the actor that played the entity was white, it makes it blackface. That's not true. Blackface is meant to be harmful towards African culture by making fun of or belittling it. The actor was chosen for his bodily proportions resembling uncanny valley so they could use less cgi. "Oh but every other character is white, and he's portrayed as angry and abusive!" He has mental issues. If he were any other race, the story would be the same. Does it matter what race he is for him to have a developed and complex character?

Smilerposting time

I hope the visual aid sort of explains it. They accentuate any shadows they enter. The amount and radius depends on how big the smiler is.

A smiler’s fur is mostly shades of black but can be different in hue and sometimes have patterns.

Smilers with discoloured sclera have impaired vision, impacting their ability to see in the dark. Some manage but many don’t survive into adulthood because of it.

Young smilers typically hunt in small groups. Moths are a popular choice at their young age until they get brave enough to take down human or larger prey.

A group of smilers is called a merriment.

As they age they become more solitary, they eat less often and begin hunting for entertainment. They could stalk someone for weeks, even months at a time.

Okay 1, as many people have pointed out, that would be fucking BORINGGGG

2, i feel like these people don’t actually know anything about the backrooms. Listen idk about you, but im much more likely to go insane knowing there are infections that make me eat my own skin and entities thats only purpose is to hunt me down and give me the most agonizing death imaginable than if i was just wondering around yellow hallways. Did you know level 7 is an endless ocean with infinite depth with some giant sea monster thats so big its impossible for humans to see the entire thing? The mere thought of the chance i could end up in there is so terrifying id go find the nearest skin stealer and let it tear me in half because at least that would be more quick.

Im not gonna pretend to be an expert on the backrooms. Most of my information comes from skimming random levels on the wikidot and Mr Mirage episodes. But like come on, how the fuck would you want to see some guy slowly, slowly, slowly go insane for like an hour and a half? He can literally leave!! He can just go!! Unless he gets lost but then why would he explore more? I know the trailer hints at the fact he gets lost but thats to prove he’s not crazy, not because hes looking for a way out.

Entity-less levels in the backrooms are very rare, and honestly if you stumble across one somehow im not sure its a good idea to leave. Unless theres some other threat like level 14/paradise, you should just stay while you can. Finding your way out is astronomically hard so its way smarter to hide out in a safe level rather than go through all 15 layers of hell to escape.

Plus, Kane Pixels made the movie, or played a massive part in it, and his analog backrooms videos have entities, so its very likely the movie will too. Idk how some people got the idea in their heads that there should be NO THREATS WHATSOEVER but dude cmon. Even the original like 3 paragraph story on 4chan had mentions of entities. I think yall have been looking at Pinterest liminal spaces a bit too much.

My friend said to me once “you arent scared of being alone in the dark, you’re scared of NOT being alone in the dark” and thats what i want the backrooms movie to be like.

Ok, mother of GOD that's a lot of responses and I am but one man with Excel. I'll update these ASAP but also some rules:

A Pokemon only counts for itself, not its evolution line.

A Pokemon with multiple forms (like Zygarde) will only be counted for the specified form. A Pokemon with multiple appearances (like Spinda, Vivillon, Sylvally, etc.) count for all their appearances.

I'm literally doing this as a testament to my own depression that not everyone is lovable, so add that to the weight of this post's meaning.
