Re-listening to the Inside Ghosts podcasts for the first time since they were first released and I just realised some potential origins for a joke in the show..

I used to have a tooth gap but it’s closed up after my wisdom teeth started coming in
I have two little white spots in the middle of my front teeth that the dentists have no clue what they are because they’ve migrated to the bottom of my teeth and they say they shouldn’t have moved lol

uuuuhhhhh in the past ten years I have been bit in the face by a dog, hit by the sparks of a giant smoke bomb (my own dumbass’s fault), fell off my bike and ran my face into a rock, and ran into a folded up picnic table and gave myself a concussion and a nice scar by my hairline. Most of these happened within 2-5 years of each other lmao
Despite loving theater and being on stage, I actually did more backstage stuff in high-school than actual performing. I mean I still did a lot of both, but there was twice when I had a brief part in a show that I was then recruited to do backstage stuff as well

Fun fact... I fully thought one of my friends was my cousin for 18 years and briefly lost consciousness (for an unrelated reason but it still wasn't a good look) when I found out he wasn't
Fun fact... When I was 5, a glass lamp fell on my head and left me with a permanent scar (it wouldn't have been permanent if I hadn't had hit my head a few days after surgery, infecting it).

On August 4, 1792 English poet Percy Bysshe Shelley was born in a home distanced from the bustle of city life. Known as Field Place, the home was surrounded by farmland and forests, and Shelley grew up running freely among the property. The eldest Shelley child disappeared for whole days and returned with fantastic tales of ghouls, monsters, and magnificent gardens. He’d eagerly relay these stories to his siblings, occasionally taking them with him on his adventures. He could be spotted helping them over fences, running along the treeline, and acting out his tales. When he inevitably tired the younger girls out, he carried them home in his arms or on his back.
His parents disapproved of his wild antics as a child, and he was often confined to his bedroom. He occasionally utilized the back staircase during these times, sneaking down to the kitchen for food which he would take up to the attic to eat. Eventually, he was sent off to boarding school. As he left the house, a fire broke out in the laundry room- Shelley’s doing, likely in retaliation.
He abhorred the boarding school where he endured violent and relentless bullying: fellow students would scream his name as he walked down the halls, knocked his books from his hands, ripped his clothing, threw mud and balls at him, and called him “mad Shelley.” They would ask Shelley to put on one of his plays and just as he let his guard down and got into the act, they would laugh and walk out. All of this led to violent temper flares in Shelley. In one instance, Shelley flew at a bully and stabbed him in the hand with a fork so violently that it went through to the table beneath. Though he turned against violence once he reached adolescence, this trauma instilled in him a hatred of oppression and tyranny and it would be one of the few things capable of making him angry later in life.
Soon, he turned to writing and science. He was brilliant even as a boy, and quickly finished any book he was handed. His rooms were always in disarray, and wherever he went, fire followed. Shelley would go on to be expelled from Oxford for his (and Hogg’s) pamphlet titled The Necessity of Atheism. All of the setbacks never stopped Shelley, and he would go on to become one of the defining voices of the Romantic movement in England.
Okayyy here's a run-down of the yonderland event for anyone who wasn't able to come, or who did come and wants some bits written down😭
This is pretty long and there are photos involved, so I'm adding a cut so people don't have to scroll through all this. Also, this isn't spell-checked so I apologise for anything...
So, for those who didn't know, the event was initially advertised for just Jim and Larry, by this morning, it said all of them except Simon. Unbelievably, all six came (even the elusive Simon!!). There were also two puppeteers and the director of series 3, David Sant. Unfortunately, I don't remember the names of the puppeteers :((
I didn't take any videos as I wanted to be really in the moment, rather than looking at them through my phone screen or focusing of anything else. So this post is of as much use for me as it is for those who didn't come😭😭. I have no idea if this will be uploaded to YouTube. I very much hope that it will, and I think it may as most, if not all previous bfi events with the idiots have been out on YouTube. However, they didn't mention anything about it being filmed or anything so I don't know.
There was a screening of S2, e6, Game of Crones - and can I just add, the idiots were in the audience and it was an insane experience watching yonderland and seeing the idiots' reactions. It was brilliant seeing them laugh and whisper to each other.
Then, they brought out the REAL puppets used in the show!!!!
The one in the middle wasn't one really used in the show, it was just a quick one made for the event.
Sitting, are David Sant and the brilliant puppeteers. The explained some of the general logistics of working with puppets. For example, at some points, Elf's hands were a real person's hands, meaning Elf had two people around him, causing difficulties. Also, at some points, the puppets needed to be damaged if their character had exploded or something. They didn't have the time nor budget to create stunt doubles so they would damage the real puppets and meticulously fix them after. As has been explained in a few previous interviews, there have been many different Elf's as it took them a while to get the perfect, most durable and convenient puppet for what they wanted to do. They said puppets can do literally anything, but the logistics of it can often be very challenging. They joked they were desperate for the idiots to change their scripts, but added it's very good that they were firm with what they wanted as it turned out perfect. David Sant gave the example of the tiny city the was flooded from the tap. He said the logistics of getting that idea from the script to the screen was extremely challenging, but in the end, it turned out brilliantly. The material of the puppets if very fragile and they need to be kept in the dark ideally. So they joked that taking the puppets out for the the event took a couple years off them.
Edit: elf was connected to come sort of wires and we could see him blinking. It was very cool and slightly terrifying 😭😭

Then, there was a screening of series 3, e5, The Negatus Redemption.
Then the idiots came out, with more puppets!!!
(left to right) there's Jeff, the telly tubby baby screen thing, Mojo, baby Trevor (very teeny tiny there😭 I didn't see him initially), Neil, and Elf
The interviewer said how it's been 10 years since yonderland and "you don't look a year yonger" and he realised and was oh "I meant to say not a year older" and Larry said "you were probably more accurate before". I laughed a lot at that.. It's the kind of stupid thing that makes me laugh so much😭😭
Simon asked why did they decide to put nicks head on the bottom. They all laugh at how he didn't know when he was involved. Larry said it's because they all agreed it was funny and they chose comedy over practicality (after explaining to Simon that they had once worked on a show called yonderland, to which Simon said it sounds rubbish). After this, one of them said thank you Simon for wearing clothes this time and he said well.. And lifted his leg😭 Martha kind of stopped him. It was very funny
They showed baby Trevor, explaining that he had a little glowing ring within him so he would glow.
They said that when doing anything for sky, one must first do a whole read through, with the sky executives will talk about if any changes are needed. The execs came back saying they want elf to be played by Mat. No puppet, just Mat. This was 9 days before filming would begin. They told the sky execs that the puppet was the best idea (they really wanted Elf to be a puppet as he was the literal introduction into the world of yonderland and if he was a human, it just wouldn't be the same). So, they had to get the puppeteers (who were under the impression that they still had 9 days to go) to finish with elf by the end of that day and finish enough puppets to demonstrate episode 1 to the sky people the following day. They somehow managed it and sky, fortunately, agreed that the puppet worked. They said that this is visible in episode one, sometimes elf has different teeth, sometimes his hair is different, and this is because they had to rush it.
Jim did a crone voice!!
Ben called Steven Fry a "dear sausage" (thank you to the person who commented and corrected me, I didn't remember this quote exactly aha)
There was a q and a. Someone asked if they have any advice for anyone who wants to be like them. Simon joked that it's not something you can teach. Larry then joked saying "no they weren't asking you Si" (he called him Si, it was so sweet!!!). Mat said to surround yourself a found talented people. Even though it can be intimidating, always surround yourself a found people more talented then yourself, and it will enable you to push yourself (Ben then whispered something to Simon. I believe he said 'he's talking about us' and then the audience laughed. But I'm not 100% sure as I'm famously quite bad at reading lips)
They were laughing about the ridiculous things they did, like the sister brothers (Mat-and-Ben-titted-Larry). They were saying that mat and Ben got quite frustrated as they had to stand in very uncomfortable positions for very long. Often they would move and their make up needed fixing. Larry said, very often you would hear them calling for the make up department saying "the breast needs touching up".
Larry got to keep Mojo after filming, Jim got Neil. Because of the material, Neil is in a far worse shape than mojo. Larry joked that there is obviously some element of love that goes into keeping the puppets.
The episode we saw had Anthony Head. They said he was so so lovely and down to earth. He was also very excited to be cast as an older, grandad character, as opposed to his typical roles as the 'hot guy'. They said he really gave it his all and was very excited to have a new type of character to play.
Edit: simon laughed at how niche some of the jokes in the show are and asked in anyone got the Nick Berry joke in the episode we just saw.
Also they were talking about something, I can't remember, and Larry said, well it would have been difficult to get it over my dead body. This got a big laugh.
Again, obviously more happened but I can't remember it all, which is why I really hope it gets uploaded to YouTube!!!! If I remember anything else, I'll edit this post.
After the event, many people stayed outside for a signing. Bfi staff told us they can't guarantee they will be able to sign anything as it's not a plan signing event, they are not obligated to sign anything and may want to just leave, but he said if we want, we can wait outside. Luckily, they were happy to sign stuff. I got photos with them and got them to sign my ghosts book!!!
We were in kind of a huddle rather than a proper line, so people in the back layers couldn't really get to the idiots. I was on the second layer, so I was really fortunate, but I also had to kind of stand on tiptoes and stick out so they could see me😭😭. Unfortunately, I missed Martha, she walked past me, but I asked Ben if he was able to bring my book over to her so she could sign it and he was so so lovely and sweet. He said of course, and she signed it, I'm so grateful!!
In the rush and excitement of everything, I assumed that Simon wasn't coming (and I had food very almost ready for me at home which I didn't want to be cold by the time I came😭😭) so I left after that. In hindsight, I really regret not waiting a few more minutes as Simon may have came out after:(( I'm very fortunate though as I do already have Simon's signature in a notebook, but yea, quite bummed I didn't give him a little loner. (edit: comments on this post told me Simon didn't come for the signing).
I asked all the idiots (apart from Martha ovc, because I wasn't able to get her😭) if they could sign my book and also take a photo. They were all so so sweet and said yes, of course. Photos bellow

They were all so wonderful and it was a brilliant experience. I spoke to a couple of ghosts fans as well!!
