mytho and Ahiru's romance is probably my favorite anime romances of all time as a kid. The main reason is probably because Ahiru is one of the few characters that still treat Mytho with respect despite him lacking emotions. A lot of characters use Mytho for whatever reason, even characters like Fakir, who protect him, still verbally degrade him and lock him up. Then you have Rue in the beginning episodes who wants to keep Mytho doll-like so he'd go along with telling her what she wanted to hear. Episode 3 comes to mind a lot for me. Ahiru is worried because Mytho accidentally cuts his hand, to which he says: "Fakir and Rue don't say things like that." 😭
Also, the way Mytho wants to be near Tutu, even before he has all his heart shards is what really gets to me. When he wants to give her a gift, and when he kisses her hand and says "I want to know what you think of me." 😳
Even when he becomes terrified of her, he knows he wouldn't want her to disappear.
Their conversation in episode 7 goes:
Mytho:"I understand a little of what I'm feeling right now."
Mytho: "This is the feeling of loneliness and the feeling of sorrow. I don't want to never see you again."
Tutu: "But I bring you pain."
Mytho: "I don't care. Even if it hurts, when i think of you, I can feel a small light coming to life in my heart."
Mytho: "If you disappear, I feel like that light will be extinguished and vanish."
After that, he asks her to restore his heart.
Then you have my absolute favorite episodes 12 and 13. After Kraehe takes out Mytho's love heart shard, he basically shuts down his other emotions. And of course..the pas de deux.
The entire dance has been ingrained in my brain ever since I was little. Princess Tutu confesses her love through dance. It's romantic and poetic that I've rewatched it so many times. Mytho gets up and they embrace. The music, the animation, the voice acting, it's all so emotional. They spend the entire night expressing their love to each other via ballet dancing 🥲
The best part of this all is Ahiru. She's brave, empathetic, and selfless. She isn't overly jealous of the girls that like Mytho, she doesn't return Mytho's heart for her own benefit despite loving him, she's just a good person. in a way, she's Mytho's prince.
