ariel from the tempest but merlin
thank you tempest 2010 for the cursed creation that is frogriel
every Ariel scene in this film bordered a fever-dream-drug-trip but i really have to make a special place for this one from Act 1, Scene 2:
and my favourite part when he flicks the ship and it explodes into a trillion pieces:
just watched The Tempest (2010) i have MUCH to say about it but first EVERYONE LOOK AT SEBASTIAN AND ANTONIO
and not to forget the incredibly homoerotic 'let's kill your brother aka the king scene':
Rise young sun, you’re a tireless one / And you’ll be back, burning
also just to add on my general experience with this film
Rise young sun, you’re a tireless one / And you’ll be back, burning
oh my days i am genuinely never gonna render this completely with the amount of detail i envision in my mind
i swear they put something in the air in jan-feb that makes you lock the fuck in on shakespeare
ok hamnet doodles sure
watching hamnet like man, that kid is such a cosette type plot device but he is so cute
watching hamnet like. wow. did you know that your art can express emotions unnameable to your audience? did you know that your audience's reaction to that same art can transform transmute elevate those emotions into something beyond your imagination?
costuming Thoughts on Hamnet (2025), without any real structure:
Agnes's look is purposefully antiquated and lower-class, which is a clever touch that both makes her more accessible to a modern audience (which tends to prefer Vague Medieval Bullshit over actual early modern clothes. Tudor-era productions really do often suffer from this especially with the women) and also communicates how Unusual she is
despite this she still has a lot of little historical details that make it clear this was a purposeful choice - the contrast between her bodice and her skirt, the way she wears her hair half-up or in a braid like a child to symbolize never growing up, the layers she still has despite the pseudo-bliaut look. also the historically accurate lacing on her stays that shifts as she becomes more visibly pregnant.
I love how every other woman is in period-accurate clothing including the caps and the color scheme. the play with color here is a lot of fun
similarly every man except Will is dressed accurately, he's sort of a man out of time
usually I dislike this immensely but I love it here.
LOVE YOUR BLOG ^.^ im normal dont. dont look at your notifications
so so sorry for the late response but thank you ❤️❤️!!!! honestly don't worry, this blog was made out of mind-numbing hyperfixation after seeing next to no previously existing fan content so i just wanted to put stuff out here for the tempest cos it deserves it 💥💥 im glad you like it !!
hello hi im currently in a production of the tempest and im tweaking the fuck out thank you for posting trinculo
Hi hi hi!!!! That sounds so fun to be in, I hope the show goes well !! And thank YOU for enjoying my stuff, here's a few more Trinculo doodles for the road 👀
saw your reply to the ask about hag-seed and big agree!! I am also very english-student weary and seeing people talk about a comparative Tempest\Hagseed essay on tumblr feels so unreal hehe, had to do it for highschool and I rarely saw people talk about Atwood's own prejudices in her writing. Esp since in the essay we had to discuss how progressive Hag-Seed was in comparison to The Tempest~
Omg hello mutual Atwood victim !! Yeah, it's unfortunate that school syllabuses really tend to just glaze over nuance in such subjects for the sake of academic standardisation 😓. For a book called Hag-Seed, you'd think it be a lot more Caliban-centric 🤔💭..
"romeo and juliet happened in three days-" broke. the tempest happened in one day AND no one died.
