Music Painters ⑨ Choreographer Choi Youngjun writes legends with Shinhwa

The first time choreographer Choi Youngjun started to become more well-known was during Shinhwa’s ‘Sniper’ promotions. Shinhwa’s 12th album title song ‘Sniper’, released in 2015, hosted a performance that was customized for each member and came together in synergy with the members’ rap and vocal styles. From the whistling at the beginning to Eric’s rap at the end, every moment of this storytelling performance mesmerized its watchers as if it was a full length movie. It was a performance that truly tuned up the attractiveness of each member’s characteristics. The man behind this performance was Choi Youngjun, Live Works Company’s Performance Director.

Choreographer Choi Youngjun first started working with Shinhwa in 2013 for ‘This Love’, and since has continued his ties with the group, working on Lee Minwoo’s 10th anniversary solo album, Jun Jin’s solo album ‘Real’, and Shin Hyesung’s recent album. He’s also directed performances for big rookies like Seventeen and Up10Tion. Both groups have garnered attention for their storytelling, tight performances. It shows just how talented this choreographer is.

Choi Youngjun concentrates on telling stories through his work and fitting the performance to the singer. He uses an approach that expresses the message of the music through the choreography attached to it, and tries to find performances that fits the singer rather than the song. His style met with Shinhwa to truly shine, and thanks to them, he’s now preparing to take his next leap forward with the ‘Boys 24′ project.
