i just tasted my homemade foraged sloe + hawthorn gins for the first time after infusing for 3 months and Damn the sloe gin is rly good. i deliberately used much much less sugar then all the recipes say, barely any in fact, bc id rather use it as a spirit than a liqueur and sugar ruins all other flavours for me lol. i used vodka as the base but added a couple of juniper berries (just dried from the shop, i havent managed to find a local juniper tree yet) to make it more gin-like - i think the hawthorn gin is actually a bit too heavy on the juniper so i removed them from the jar and gna let the hawthorn infuse for maybe a few more months.......... not sure if i wanna strain the sloes out yet or wait for it to get more intense...... Hmmm. anyway for a first attempt im p pleased :)
my first embroidery!! its a Sudoku twins puzzle (two sudokus overlapping) its a bit wonky but in a charming way i think. i will cut it out to make a patch
finished belt whoo!!!!
made of:
cool ribbon from the local buttons and ribbons shop
black suede scavenged from panels of a 2nd hand skirt
improv buckram made of some kind of jute/sackcloth and PVA glue
belt clasp from the sewing shop
close ups of the adequate but somewhat messy stitching at the ends:
progress shots: making a belt from a fun ribbon i bought at the local ribbons and buttons shop
i mounted the ribbon on a black suede tube i made from a strip of a big second hand suede skirt i found for this very purpose (and have plenty of left over suede to make a carrying case for my portable cd player!! yay) fun tip when working with leather or suede it is SO MUCH EASIER to use paperclips instead of pins.
and to stiffen it i made a kind of improv buckram thing?? i cut a strip of this v course jute/sackcloth material i have loads of (took it home after a wedding at work years ago, they were using it as table runners) and spread it with diluted PVA glue. cut it to size then threaded it inside the belt.
i machine stitched the ribbon to the belt, sewing thru both layers of suede and the buckram stuff - first time using leather needles on my machine! - and hand stitched the ends shut
ive been collecting fruit/veg net bags and tin can lids for some time,,,,, wonder if i can make something wearable out of this pile of rubbish

trying 2 decide if i want to leave it here or fill in all the gaps...... hmmmm
pattern derived from a nice metal chair i sat on once. the ~portal~ is the shape of the chair's backrest, partly filled in with the pattern of holes, with in between bits of different sections partially filled in, and the background is the negative of the pattern
prev post is a development of this pattern
staying up late drawing lots and lots of tiny circles in my square grid notebook. thats what life is all about
