PERHAPS IT IS THE ACCURSED BULWER BLOOD — accumulated from bors the breaker , who was mad with bloodlust , or perhaps because he drank so much of the blood itself that it made him half bull , and so that strength and constant itching for a fight passed along to all the men and women of the house . maris did not understand ; maris was as placid as any lady , content behind her needlework . she also had a tendency to scold jon for it , for something that was natural , a consequence of their birth . she is convinced jon will die like this , in an untimely brawl , bested . naturally , it is all nonsense .

lynorra is not like that . though not a bloody creature , the stag is also wild and untameable . and jon has always known this , from childhood when she would happily have a brawl with him during her visits to blackcrown . and on the couple occasions that jon did not lent and had her in a loose headlock she did not cry , but laughed .

rubbing my hands together as i write maris and jon hostilities … jon who doesn’t believe maris is strong enough to be a bulwer , that she’s not a blood - drinker ( in the violence and war sense of the word ) like their ancestor — she’s not a bull . maris who thinks jon is a disgrace to the house , having been given everything from childhood , raised as a perfect boy - child , yet still spending all his days jousting and visiting brothels , careless .

MARIS HAD MANY A SUITOR when she was a young maid -- she was tall , slender , with eyes as dark as night . she was given the nickname the 'willow of westeros' by the travelling bards , for she often stood still and silent , eye to eye with the many men who came to ask for her hand . she was also adored by her father , something that made sure she would never want for anything ( the best dresses for brandon's favourite daughter , jewellery and the finest steeds ) , and her dowry promised to be one of the largest from the smaller houses .

propositions came from many of the greater houses , from all the way in dorne , even . but upon seeing maris' distress at leaving the reach , brandon sent them home , saying he would not have his daughter suffer , and looked towards their allies in the reach . but even then , maris suffered . every meeting left her sullen , the dark circles marring her features in the morn . it was only to jon that she would confess ; every night plagued her with nightmares of her suitors' deaths , and from time to time her own - in the birthing bed .
