i really, REALLY! fucking LOVED this show. it had no right to be this good, but it was!!!

i had the idea for this drawing ever since i finished watching the show and listened to the credits song-- the ''but we're not dead'' chorus part almost made me cry i was so in shambles-- i cant believe i liked the show about the colorful beans with nubs as legs dying one by one but- here i am !

my thoughts on purple: purple is grumpy because they’re struggling to make ends meet (and imo, dealing with chronic pain), stuck on a spaceship for over several weeks with someone who hurt them badly who is also their Workplace Superior, and forced to work for Mira again to make any money at all. but that’s not All they are. they have little hobbies that make them happy (fishmate keeping, antique binoculars… i like to think they love to read as well…). they clearly care so much about the wellbeing of other crewmates, both from their reaction to the devastation of the reactor incident and how they respond to cyan in the freezer. they’ve had to shuttle away their own emotions to deal with things, but they still care about others … like, i think it’s so telling how gentle they are with cyan when they fully could’ve walked away. i think they tend to react explosively to things bc they’re repressing a lot of their emotions (there’s no time to be sad or upset when crewmates are dying) (and i think they feel a lot of guilt about failing the crewmates since it’s their responsibility as security, even if they’re underequipped and not properly trained for it), so when the final straw breaks and everything bubbles up, it comes out all at once + bc there’s so much unspoken tension between them and red, it just so happens they reach that point fairly frequently. despite that though, i fully believe they were a silly person before the reactor… i like to think they were a little snarky and playfully sarcastic and loved ribbing their friends (red), but they meant well and were just really whimsical…. i like to think they liked to sneak out on company hours and goof off and convinced red to do the same… and i think it’s so tragic how much of them they forced themself to bury post-nda </3 (I’M SO SORRY ABOUT HOW LONG THIS IS BTW . i just love ourple so much)

Just to add I also think Purple reacts explosively because they weren’t being heard and thus didn’t feel respected as a crewmate too!! Purple shouts because of what you mentioned but also because they’re so used to going voiceless, not because they want control or dominance. They just want to be heard.

They were stripped of their autonomy too by being forced to stay silent (being blacklisted) they’re put into a cycle of never getting out of their situation and has no support system.

AND ABSOLUTELY, they’re immediately put at a disadvantage because Red is the captain as well which is important to remember.

I also have the same hc as you anon, the idea of intern Purple wanting to engage in silly activities with Red is so canon to me especially when the show hinted at their childlike longing from Cyan’s journal.
