seeing other artists talk about what their boundaries are with their work is interesting, I am of the mind you can't really tell someone how to feel and how to respond to the work you've put out there, but I do think there are times where it is appropriate to talk about the original context of the work where increasingly, anyone can take something you've done and strip it of all context.
like... death of the author and all, but, it seems like a violation of a social contract more than anything if the author is actually still there in the room. If the biggest authorial intent there is "this is a personal work I'm still developing" it seems wildly inappropriate to try to take that from someone?
I think there will always be a certain amount of control you give up when you put yourself out there, if you spend all your time trying to argue with every bad faith interpretation of your work you will get holes in your brain. You will suffer, and for nothing really. You can only state what the original context was.
But art is a form of communication. And that is absolutely a social contract you can breach. I think trying to kill the author ahead of time instead of engaging on their terms is one way to do it.
I think all we can really do is look at ourselves and ask why we choose to engage in a certain way, both from the stance of the artist and the audience, and talk about why some ways of going about it might not be ideal if not outright detrimental.
