Le génie du mal [The genius of evil, aka; Lucifer]; Guillaume Geefs
“The statue was originally a commission for Geefs’ younger brother Joseph, who completed it in 1842 and installed it the following year. It generated controversy at once and was criticized for not representing a Christian ideal. The cathedral administration declared that “this devil is too sublime.” The local press intimated that the work was distracting the “pretty penitent girls” who should have been listening to the sermons.” [x]

Blake Fall-Conroy, “Minimum Wage Machine,” 2008-2010
This machine allows anyone to work for minimum wage for as long as they like. Turning the crank on the side releases one penny every 4.97 seconds, for a total of $7.25 per hour. This corresponds to minimum wage for a person in New York.
This piece is brilliant on multiple levels, particularly as social commentary. Without a doubt, most people who started operating the machine for fun would quickly grow disheartened and stop when realizing just how little they’re earning by turning this mindless crank. A person would then conceivably realize that this is what nearly two million people in the United States do every day…at much harder jobs than turning a crank. This turns the piece into a simple, yet effective argument for raising the minimum wage.
Take Harvest Moon, and rename the town Davenport Homestead. Reskin the characters to look like the Homestead residents from ACIII, and throw Aveline and Haytham and Ziio and a whole buncha other AC characters in there for good measure. Heck, you could even leave some of the characters looking the...

I love this short soooo much
somebody tell me how I get my hands on this, right now
crimson-cuts:
this actually makes me feel sick to the stomach, how can someone stop loving someone because they’re suicidal? how can this society be so fucked up that it has come to this. i actually hate this world.
i’m afraid this will happen to me, too
:I People who stop loving suicidal people don’t deserve love at all~
You guys do understand that your emotional state DOES affect your partner, right?
There are people out there who might not be mentally or emotionally prepared to be with someone with that kind of emotional baggage. And while in a more ideal relationship, both people would help each other work through it, nobody is obligated to stay with their partner if they feel incapable of doing it.
And the second person said “one of the reasons” not “the reason”. The first person clearly did other things that made person 2 uncomfortable.
basically that. everyone has their own issues and not everyone is strong enough to carry a second set of burdens. not to mention the strain this would put on an already shaky relationship, which would result in even greater stresses. we do not live in a perfect world. love is not some magical healer.
This whole thing makes me sad, but unfortunately love can only do so much.
seriously guys, don’t say shit like “people who stop loving suicidal people don’t deserve love at all” because you know what? I shouldn’t be expected to stay in a crumbling relationship just because that person is suicidal. I should not be expected to stay and try to fix or help them, that is not my job. That is not anyone’s job but the suicidal person. The partner is NOT the therapist, the partner is NOT the magical person who will make everything better. The partner does NOT have to stay JUST BECAUSE THE OTHER PERSON MAY KILL THEMSELVES IF THEY BREAK UP. The suicidal person is the one who has to take steps to help themselves, the parter can’t do it for them.
I’ve been suicidal before, and I had to take steps myself to make myself better, not force another person to do it for me or expect other people to stay around me just because I was suicidal.
If a person says “well you’re just breaking up with me because I’m suicidal! if you break up with me I’ll kill myself!” THAT IS EMOTIONAL MANIPULATION. THAT IS NOT OK.
I’m incredibly lucky that my partner has stayed with me despite knowing I suffer from anxiety/depression. He’s seen me through my suicidal tendencies, through the frustrating process that is seeking professional help, going through therapy, medicine, everything.
But I never expected him to play the therapist. To do so is emotional manipulation, and a sign that you’re not mentally mature (or stable) enough to be in a relationship.
Everyone who has written about the fact that people in relationships with those of us who are mentally ill are not obligated to stick with us through thick and thin, and should not be the therapist, and absolutely are not a magic bullet to fix sickness is completely correct. It's cruel to expect that of anyone, let alone someone with no professional training in dealing with depression and potential suicides.
The big 'but' that you probably saw coming here, though, is that that's not what these four texts are about. The responder does not say "I cannot handle being your therapist" or "I can't make your problems go away and it's not fair to me that you think I should" or even "Yes, I broke up with you because I can't handle you being suicidal." The responder said "I stopped loving you because you want to kill yourself (among other reasons)." And it's true that expecting a lover to "fix" one's mental issues is cruel to them, however, saying ...that to someone who you know wants to kill themselves is at best life-threateningly short-sighted, even if it is true.
