Hi! Two questions)
1) I AM JUST CRAZY ABOUT YOUR COMICS AND BEAUTIFUL DRAWINGS!🧡🔥🫠 Can you recommend tutorials, books, some practical advice on drawing comics, storyboards?
2) Have you read the cute fanfic "Breathe a Little for Me"? There Daniel got sick, and Johnny took care of him... I think you would make a great illustration for this fanfic☺️
THANK YOU! I'm glad that even all these years later you are still enjoying what I made ToT! It is really motivating!!!!
At the time I made it I was really inspired by the artist for Hikarua no Go Takeshi Obata. The art books I was learning from at the time were Framed Ink and the Visions color theory book! Keep this in mind, they are drastically different from the art I was actually able to make but they are my ultimate aspirational artistic influences and I love suggesting these when ever I can!
My biggest art advice right now:
-Drawing loose and fast is always good, don't be too precious! Learning to be amazing at cleaning up your work is almost a secondary skill that only makes those loose expressive drawings better! I fall in love with really expressive sketches, and it is life long pursuit to find how to clean those up without loosing the expressiveness. So I try to treat those two skills as totally separate and sometimes I am lucky and they sync up, but I would be no where without my sketches first!
-What will always make your work stand out is specificity! When making a sentence in a story more interesting you would add adverbs and adjectives, I think its the same for drawing. So if I want to draw something like Daniel crying, I think about all of the subtle ultra specific story telling choices I can make with the posing! That is the main skill that I am always trying to improve!
and lastly, I will read it now!!!!! I've been nostalgic for the karate kid era, and like it seems like the fandom is coming back! I would love to do some fic illustrations ToT I will check it out cause it sound like exactly the sort of stories that got me interested in the fandom in the first place!
You caught me on a talkative day, thank you for the question!!
