❛ i’m not afraid of you. ❜ (canon naevia or modern)

“Aye, I know. Ye shouldna be afraid of me.” Finan answered as he took a step back from her. He didn’t mean to be threatening, he seldom threatened a woman, only if it was purely necessary.
“I was jus’ lost in this big camp of yers. I arrived yesterday, slept out in ta open. Someone told me tha I could fin’ someone called Naevia ta help me find a place ina tent.” He explained himself.
Naevia smiled a little as Finan showed a flash of uncertainty. “Like I said, I’ll show you back to the tents. There should be some empty bunks scattered among them for you to choose from.”
“You’ll have to navigate the social standings of those tents, I know nothing aside from the tribal splits. There are some Celts but I don’t know if they’re your kind of Celts. And the only one I know well doesn’t care to align himself with anyone really.” Gannicus was the great outlier that way.
“I can’t imagine, baring those fools who originally sent you my way to see if you got stabbed or not, many should object to your arrival. You certainly are far ahead of the more objectionable recruits we’ve taken.” She smiled at him a little, for Naevia it was warm behaviour to a newcomer even if it was cool by the standards of most. “Just try not to actually get stabbed before we meet again, hm?”

“Thank ye.” Finan was glad that he had gotten to know Naevia. It wasn’t always easy to stay somewhere new and be the odd one out. The other Celt didn’t seem to have that problem but like Naevia had told him, he’d been a gladiator. Finan didn’t really fit in much anywhere.
“If ye can show me the general direction I’ll be fine. I dunna need much.” He didn’t even need a tent, he’d stayed in open skies more than enough. He chuckled at Naevia’s words. “They didna know either of us, I guess. Too bad for them.”
“I’ll do me best, promise. Thank ye fer yer guidance and help… I wish ye a good night.” Finan smiled and gave her a wave. “Don’t hit any idiots on yer way to yer tent. I know it’s temptin’.” He then grinned and winked.
Naevia indicated the easiest direction for him, "That's where the tents I indicated before are, if you find the smithy you've gone too far. Goodnight Finan."
She inclined her head to him not submissively but in a farewell between equals. The small smile lingered as Naevia told him "If I stabbed them all, I'd never have time to sleep."
And with that she left. And there was no second thought as she turned her back on him that she might be in danger. Her trust was rewarded too, for Finan did not morph into a beast when her back turned as some men could.
A sigh of relief did pass her lips but otherwise she parted ways with him feeling lighter than she had before.
