Robert Pattinson interview with Cinema magazine in support of The Lighthouse, premiering at Cannes on May 18th
Asked how he felt about Cannes, Pattinson says, “It’s always been the pinnacle of where I’ve wanted all my movies to premiere. It’s seems like it’s very sophisticated, even though there’s an element that’s all about the parties, but really there are very serious discussions about the movies you put out and it’s interesting to see how they’re received.”
He talks a bit about how he’s doing an 1890’s lumberjack accent rooted in Canada and Maine, and he loves doing accents.
Rob says the rough weather conditions affected the performances. “Waves that went over the entire top of the lighthouse, 30 foot waves… Nova Scotia weather is the most insane thing you’ve ever seen in your life.” He explains that it can go from hot and sunny to snowing and hailing at the same time, five minutes later, like nothing he’s ever experienced before.
Proud of how tough he became while making The Lighthouse, Rob says the film crew was was in full arctic gear and he was only wearing a shirt and when he finished a take he would turn around and look at them all bundled up and it felt good to be so “hard” in the face of extreme weather conditions.
